I don't remember ever encountering a pup but that doesn't mean it can't happen

Expedition mode = you set up some set challenges/goals to complete and then spawn in a random shelter somewhere on the map and you have to complete them without dying on 1 karma
there's also some preset challenges you can do (one for each scug) and a system to unlock various things in the mode
some perks you can unlock are simple, like start with a lantern or a bomb
others are more complex like having rivspeed or arti jump or gourm item crafting
In general it's a fun mode to play in, I enjoy it a lot and it's what I play the most after I finished the campaigns
