From what I can tell it's a consequence of the game putting the player icon in the center of the room, which just happens to be in that position for Saint. (For that matter, Riv is not necessarily beside Moon, and Arti appears floating in the air, not on the platform where the scavenger was.)

If it was intentional I'd imagine Saint would appear more to the left, not as close to the room geometry. Maybe someone noticed it later and thought it was cool it could be interpreted that way, but it's not necessarily intentional
