Y'know, Andy Weir is MOSTLY a pretty good author but I do have my critiques with him

The only one that I can think of off the top of my head that's purely objective is that he doesn't do that well with endings

The ending in The Martian would have been a whole lot more rewarding if it ended with Watney greeting his family for the first time in like 3 years, or even just him stepping off whatever they use to get the Ares 3 (it was 3, right?) crew from orbit to the surface, and stumbling in Earth's higher gravity. Still, it was a pretty decent ending anyway.

In Project Hail Mary, he just...

||He just threw out Grace's character development. "Oh, I guess I'm a wimp. OK, I guess I won't even try to go back to Earth." He kept arguing that he didn't have enough food, but the average human can go about 40 days without eating, and that's about how long he had after his food supplies would have gone out. And that's the AVERAGE; larger people with more fat reserves (and more nutrients in general) can go even longer. Yet instead he went to Erid instead. If they went to Earth then they could have created the first interspecies, inter-planetary alliance; I mean, both worlds have already seen how well humans and Eridians can work together. What argument would anyone have NOT to work together?||

And for my plan, you may be thinking that perhaps they didn't want to because Erid was also in trouble.

||But Erid had much, much longer than Earth did befor any cataclysmic events would happen. Heck, before the Eridians would have even been affected pretty much at all! So they would have had plenty of time to launch a Hail Mary 2 to deliver the Taumeoba to the other system, and they could have also perhaps sent some of the Beatles to Erid and some to Earth for redundancy. (Although IDK if the Eridians could make much use of the Beatles )||
