Hello! I’m bored, and as much fun as it would be to reread HFiSH, Cy’s stuff, or a certain fic I cannot mention, I have to look at some source material for a Pebbs reverse Isekai.

Thus, I will be reading this.

I think I have a few lessons to take.

One - you’d be unfamiliar with your body to some degree. Depends on how different said body is.

Two, your new world is as alien to you as you are to it. Familiarize yourself with it, but ideally, don’t let them know you aren’t already familiar.

Finally, your old world is dead to you as you are to it. Might as well forget everything.

Unfamiliarity with the body is a great draw to Isekai. The horror in waking up in a new body can be either all at once or slowly, surely realizing your new limits and abilities.

In the case of a human to a slugcat, that’s stubby legs, a taste for things humans would normally be vomiting at, greatly increased arm grip, and an extended moveset.

In the case of an Iterator to a human, it’s basically all positives except the suddenly limited intelligence, lack of the unending energy, mortality, and inability to do telekinesis.

You have a body alien to either you or the world around you.

Now that I type this out, those are some really big negatives.

I’m bad at mathematics, alright? Don’t blame me if I can’t weigh my options.

Aside from that, alien world.

You’re likely unfamiliar with your new world, unless you’ve either seen it, or it’s familiar to you.

In this case, Key has neither.

Highlights - uncertainty and possibly fear, but if your old life was a pain, you’d probably be a bit excited to start over.

However, if you did like your old life, nostalgia.

A longing to return to somewhere you can no longer return to.

To be honest, I’m familiar with that feeling. I’m sure we all are.

In Key’s case, I sense longing, but they don’t have time to process it.

I like that. I like that a whole lot.

Now, would our favorite funny robot who committed fratricide like his old life?

Good question, he probably would have mixed feelings.

He’d want his old abilities back, but he’d learn to appreciate not having to be really fucking suicidal.

Besides, he’d probably find new excitement in his new path.

Having to forge his own goal would be a bit daunting.

But realizing what he could do, without the Rot and Void gnawing at him would probably be somewhat enlightening for him.

The same way Im doin it now, Open an ultrabox file and experiment until you get things sounding how you want them to, Even if you've never made music before if you've listened to it alot you can usually order notes and get things sounding nice, I reccomend only using/editing preset instruments before trying to make your own using the templates (harmonics, FM, supersaw, chip, etc)

its such an unconventional game for the genre

granted, key does have a companion (as i also really felt like writing found family) but theyre still in a very hostile world that has none of the comforts of the place they came from

they're an average 15 year old middle class dweller, they certainly have no experience surviving in the wilderness

even if they did have knowledge of the game where they had come from they certainly cant remember any of it now

(and i felt meta knowledge would make it kind of boring anyways since theyd already know how to do everything; early drafts of the fic lean on the fourth wall pretty heavily)

if key were on their own i probably wouldve made them an adult but i feel like rainworld would be a very cruel place for a teenager

Are you just worried about readers getting bored reading an explanation of what Humans are?

If that's the case, you could try bringing more of the focus to how it happened. Hunter, in his confusion, could ask how this happened, and then Key could tell him about the echoes they see, and could lead to new info/revelations from Hunter's knowledge

Another thing you could do is have something else happening during this scene where Key is telling Hunter about the isekai shenanigans

Hunter could be occupied or irritated doing something, for example, finding that a path that was previously safe is now unusable, or hunting, etc., etc., and all the while Key is struggling to bring up the subject, maybe contemplating not saying anything at all

They seem like the type of character to go "Well, Hunter's already busy and his problems are bigger than mine so I'll just ignore my own because they don't matter" so that could be an approach

Or maybe not, I'm not you so I don't know Key that well
