We may never know
In truth, other tribes out in the Rainlands can act the same way
But this is a very selective case
The "dragons" are going to be both the most "civilized" and "primitive" group at the same time. They understand basic rules, tradition, some metallurgy, and otjer concepts of civilization. But they're more interested in eat, hunting, and enjoying life however they please
Interesting
Also...fire and acid might be potent but organized militaries will trounce them in a field battle. Discipline, armor, quality forged ranged weapons, etc.
But for the more open clans why fight when you can get good food, armor that's sturdy but flexible, books, the means of seeing the world, and friends?
Fighting just results in unnecessary bloodshed and while you may be able to take on a soldier or two an army is a different matter
Sometimes, the "civilised" are rather unreasonable
That being said, few armies would be stupid enough to go into a place where everything is a dragon
And I mean everything
The lizards, vultures, the rain deer
The Iterator is very enthusiastic about dragons
Oh crap
So...Hoarder claims first place as first foreigner to get a scene in Saints. Teenager bad mouths Narith over national identity
New character
"Not Kutasian! Me Greenflame! You wear armor but you no fancy lord, no? You no lord, me no Kutasian."
Kutasian Legaue = Georgia inspired nation

"Merchant scene" basically coming soon. Not exactly how I originally envisioned it but reworked in a way I can do nicely
As for why the broken speaking...teenager in a foreign land trying to get a point across in a foreign language
Let's see how well that works out
So yes...lots of new characters

Hooray
Fred...think you want to draw a medieval tavern scene of a lot of characters meeting each other?
I'll give details after I've written it
Though since I've mentioned the League, I'll give some details about them and the other two foreign nations
Tavern in a medieval setting, a perfect way to introduce characters
First off, the Kutasian League has their wagon being towed by a red lizard... Yup, they domesticated red lizards in place of horses
Second for our Greece stand in, the Hydranian wagon is being towed by a caramel lizard. They are the ones with six limbs
Finally and for our Hispanic/Latin American group, the Flamencion's flew in on a Wyvern (AKA a cyan lizard/Miros Vulture biomechanical hybrid)
All three animals are just chilling in the back lot stables of a laborer tavern
Fred, you won that bet, right?
Do I want to know what this bet is?
Reading all Kratzor's work
Ah
So we are reading nearly 800k worth of words
Not yet
I am on my least favorite parts so the progress is slow
Also...I just casually have some of the most dangerous animals in Rain World as cargo haulers...
Who would have thought a red lizard would be a draft horse?
The slavic scugs or scavs
Living the extreme
And poor
Could match against the Cold Ones or the Kislev Bear Calvary
I would like to find a way to incorporate a Rain Deer but they seem a bit too large and "clunky" for a mobile trade caravan
Probably better off in a more localized setting
(No Empire Total War... Large animals like elephants are not that easy to transport. Why would 1735 India go across the Middle East to invade Swedish occupied Chrimea?)
(Using elephants... Like, how did you get them across the desert anyway???)
Point of that rant is that as goofy as it would seem, Rain Deer are big and bulky animals that probably would attract too much attention for a long merchant journey and be unsuitable for the terrain.
Granted, Outer Expanse would be hell on wagons but a civilization with at least 1000 years of experience would figure it out and probably use something that could fight back as well
Maybe by guiding it?
...Medieval Total War 2 Rain World mod, Slugcats riding war Rain Deer as opposed to elephants
That would be...something...
They would either holding lances or throwing spears
Oh yeah as for this rather than the start of the journey to save the world it's the "Sliver did what?! Hey purposed organisms? Go find answers would ya?" "Answers for whaaaaa-Ah... Okay...that's a new one."
Words travelling fast
Actually...that was Abyss' fault
I see
Sliver's message at the end of chapter 1 was as loud and clear as it could ever get. Even the other hyper intelligence computers are watching this
Sure, they're busy with their own parts of Alcenta but this is unheard of
All of them would be raising eyebrows, shocked expression and disbelief as they heard it
I'm not including the others to keep it a "Rain World" story
But yeah...the other Archotech level intelligences are raising eyebrows also
They just can watch it unfold alongside Abyss
The standard Iterators on the other hand..."What the hell???"
Sliver: I did it....
Her purposed organisms: She did it....
The local iterators: She did what now?
As for why Abyss would deliberately spill the beans, he went with "make it fast and get it over with" approach
And while Abyss kind of is all powerful and a prankster, he really does value the free will of others and figured if Sliver wanted to do this maybe others would also
I could imagine Abyss smirked as he saw the event unfold
You have no idea how much I want to drop the bombshell regarding Hannibal in the main chat...
Context question for later when main chat has moved on: How did Hunter actually get sick in game?
In my theory, maybe too much with the power of making them
Because idk how tf did Hunter acquired those
Well I am struggling with the perspective so here is a question for you Captain so that I could figure it out
Go ahead
Shi Chara is a mountain city right?
So what kind of view do you get of the iterator can from it?
About a third/half of the skyline is dominated by the can
Let me go find the specifics
Okay, I said in the central marketplace the can blocked out a third of the sky
It's also "just south" of the shadow the can makes
Given the sheer size of Iterators, I'd say the city is a fair distance away but still close enough to be seen as gigantic
Do you still need to look up to actually see the can instead of just the legs?
Depending on where you are probably. I mean, Shi Chara is a city
If on the edge or the farm lands, you could see the legs easily. In the center of the residential/commercial district? I'd say you would have to look over thr buildings
Well in the context of Sliver and Narith watching the can collapse what kind of view do they get of the can?
Probably a close up. Sliver would be placed in an Order monastery/garrison post close to the edge of the city to allow a fast entry and her not getting overwhelmed by everything
So...maybe the distance of Shoreline/Waterfront to Industrial
Well I am going to suffer
Womp
I mean, Industrial is fairly close to both Iterators and yet it doesn't really change despite both falling down
Only waterfront facility and garbage wastes change
I am surprised that shaded citadel is unharmed
Also...Chimney somehow is fine with Pebbles falling
Which would mean either it's built out of absurdium
Or Shaded is pretty far away from Chimney
Moon collapse was somehow more destructive than Pebbles collapse
Even though moon landed in water and collapsed piece by piece
Maybe he was smaller or more hollow?
Iterators do have a lot of hollow space inside of them
Pebbles is about the same size as Moon if not bigger
Which means the rot made Five Pebbles alot more hollow
Like alot alot more hollow
That...makes sense actually
Also, he was falling apart much slower than her
Probably by the time he actually went down fully a good amount of him already pulverized Shaded
So uh...leprosy?
Also, Chea did do her math to minimize the damage as much as possible. She practically knew everything about the internal workings of an Iterator
In my first test I just blew up the legs
To the point where there was nothing left of the middle section
I see it more of being sheared
I am guessing that would only increase the damage so I restarted
Not so much an explosion but more of the legs bending until they snap
Wouldn't that make the can fall and slide into a nearby region that isn't under the can
That was the idea
Away from Shi Chara and into some place where the damage would be less impactful
Wait I just realized something
How did Pebbles detached one of his rot infected labs and dump it into the garbage wastes if it's not even under the can
Maybe that was his genetics lab and was specifically designed to jettison in the event of an emergency?
Genetic lab with rocket boosters
Controlled explosives?
Either way, dumping into Garbage with the acid does make sense
Ignoring the fact that somehow things live in the most deadly Chlorax factory every, very little should be able to survive the acid by direct contact
I mean it doesn't seem like Pebbles dumped it into a pool of proper acid instead he dumped it into a pool of watered down acid
Considering the rot is there and is alive by spearmaster time
Unfortunately true
But the game did add that in to show that something else was going on besides reptiles, giant bugs, and uppity monkeys
And giant flying birds
He was not in the right state of mind so that makes sense
As for Sliver and her former can, it was a controlled drop. Minimize the damage as much as possible and in a manner that was controlled as possible
It was going to drop eventually without Sliver in control, might as well make sure it drops in a way and location where an ecological disaster is avoided
Also, the purposed organisms made sure to prep the city
Go to certain places to avoid getting hurt, guards on patrol until the drop, architects and engineers on standby, that kind of stuff
Okay so i have an idea on how to minimize my suffering of drawing the can as much as possible
Cover most of the view of the can with a window
The city was ready for this artifical quake because they knew it was a matter of when, not if
So current plan for story writing: I'll probably knock the "merchant scene" out tonight which may include chapter conclusion. Since I introduce two characters before the scene itself actually takes place, everybody will get a brief breakdown once I've written it and satisfied with a rough draft.
That will include being a Slugcat or Scavenger, clothes/armor, any carry on weapons, implants, fur color, etc.
This will also be known as the scene where important people show up once and nowhere else in the story... At the very least, will show that the Rainlands is a very diverse part of the world
So whaddya need cap?
Okay so still writing but I wrote the paragraphs I wanted to set the stage for what the "merchant scene" would look like. I'll give those in a sec, figured I should specify the characteristics of who is there
First thing's first, the locals of Shi Chara: Dialect, Chea, Narith, and "Silvea" (Sliver who changed her name). As stated before, the Saint body has silver fur and a bionic left arm. The majority of the implants are internal and she is wearing a robe
Next, the Kutasians (AKA, the Georgians and "Dragons")
*Petre: a purposed organism Slugcat, black fur, wearing armor, a cape, and natural armor which is hidden under the fur as well as the actual armor
*Tusk: Teenage "Hoarder" Scavenger, brown fur, scaly skin that does poke through, pointy ears and horns, a serpentine tail, and wearing leather armor
*Ember: Teenage "Dragoncat" Slugcat, basically the same as Tusk with the exception of floppy ears nd having maroon fur
Onto the Flamencions (Hispanic/Spanish)
*Jose: Electric green turquoise furred Slugcat wearing merchant clothes
*Franco: SLugcat, brown fur, both arms are bionic, wearing hybridized armor (think power armor if it was medieval because why not?), and a prehensile bionic tail (was thinking like a scorpion but ignore the stinger since this is a peaceful setting)
Finally, the Hydranians (Greeks) who each have four arms
*Lydia the "Amazonian Gorgon:" Slugcat, purple fur, and has two swords on her person
*Argos: Slugcat, orange fur, wearing travellers clothes
*Jason and Perseus: Twins and the kids of Lydia and Argos
And now for the scene itself. It's in a tavern and there other patrons in the background:
After tankards and meals had been distributed, Silvea had been given proper introductions to the visitors while the rain outside grew into a downpour. As it turns out, Lydia had met and married Argos, a small-time merchant who dealt in wines and glassware, ten years which resulted in her having twins, Jason and Perseus, a year after their marriage. Petre was taking advantage of the situation to renegotiate firebush trade deals with the Havarda Confederacy and brought along Tusk and Ember (two grandchildren of a different purposed organism whom Silvea has never met but whose “bloodline is trying to outgrow the yeek populace”) to help them fulfill a right of passage. Then there was the surprisingly timid Franco, the bionic purposed organism from Flamencio, on his first assignment and escorting an electronics and weapons dealer, Jose.
Despite the culture shock and feeling of being crowded (Narith hovering a tad too close by and looking like he was about to fall asleep due to the wine not helping), it felt...welcoming. Even the other patrons seemed to just accept what was happening. Silvea felt as if she belonged here. Tusk and Ember were struggling to beat Jason and Perseus in a game off to the side, Jose and Argos were busy haggling deals and trading contacts, and Lydia and Franco were at ease talking about their homelands with Dialect chiming in every now and then. The only two who kept quiet (besides Narith who struggled to sit up straight with half lidded eyes) were Silvea and Chea who merely soaked everything in
(And breathe after info and scene dump)
Thoughts?
Hmm
While I think it would be better if you added more details to the scene honestly I believe that it will be fine as is
Truthfully, it's still "going" as lunch is finished and the purposed organisms are bringing up their questions to the lady herself but I really wanted to just show that them all just chilling. Four different civilizations, cultures, and purposed organism designs (technically five but shush) all eating food and drinking wine. Is it a high class establishment? No. Is it peaceful? I'd say so
Basically, figured the simple D&D tavern scene where everyone is eating and chilling worked best to show the differences yet how comfortable everyone is despite the stark differences between them
It definitely did a great job at showing that
So let's see: There's Sliver's can going timber, Silvia having her D&D tavern moment, and Charlie (centuries later).having college...
Which one are you going at Fred?
Well the Charlie drawing I will do after the Sliver ones but I will do it
Which means I need to either draw Slivers Can having it's kneecaps stolen or D&D
Both of those are hard in very different ways
Oh and there is the third option of doing both
Tho that is unlikely to happen
I'll probably just try and do a quick sketch of both to see which one I find easier
Just was wondering
Anyway, probably will get the initial draft done tonight and then create a proper post
In Discord, need to edit the chapter still
I got worried for a bit there
Probably should've used the word "Forum"
I can't do art
I could've help you Fred
Well I think that that you can do art and pretty well too but it's okay I will manage alone I think
You did draw a good image of One a while back...
That was months ago
Aight
But in the meantime, my thoughts of the scene
Is good for the introduction for every character
Some intros were done before, but I figured that would set the tone of the setting
Do all of them are in the tavern together?
(Also, just realized I need to rewrite a paragraph because I focused on something that has no impact later on when I could show something that will have relevance in later chapters...)
They're all in the tavern
The original plan was for Chea to meet Silvia and Narith to help with Silvia get used to the city life. Then in comes the final wave of merchants before winter sets in and they want answers on behalf of their local groups
The only civilization not present is the Misty Isle and they're...in the middle of the ocean
Not even the tropics
I see
As for the other groups that lack civilization, they lack the infrastructure or time to spare sending purposed organisms to investigate and have to rely on hearsay
So, for example, the Peninsula is unable to send anyone at the moment because uppity tribes are going at it again, there's another purposed organism factory going off the fritz, the purposed organisms are already aborad, and/or there's an angry green lizard eating the local yeek population and needs to be dealt with

Though I just wanted to show off other civilizations because why not?
The diversity of civilization
OK so after doing a quick sketch of both of the drawing I came to the conclusion that Slivers can collapsing will be easier for me to draw
Also that means if Anton wants to try and draw a scene for Sliver of Saints he's gonna have to draw the tavern scene
So uhh have fun drawing 10 scugs and a single scavenger
Plus patrons in background
Faceless scavs and scugs
He's the one who mouthed off at Narith...after brandishing a knife by being surprised
Yes, a tribal gets spooked by an armed guard and draws a knife before mouthing off at said guard who was more confused as to why the wagons were at this tavern rather than the main market
In the medieval ages
Womp
If I was a savage, I would done the same
Smart Tusk very smart
He was being sent out to grab stuff from the wagon, most notably wine
Narith and Silvia were investigating the odd scene prior
Out comes Petre to save his idiot charge from embarrassing himself further
In fairness to Tusk, first time outside of his local Iterator Group, bad at the language, and is used being on a hair trigger as a survival method
And...teenager
Without the super soldier genetics
Wait...he has them, just diluted since he's a grandson
Just pure training
I mean, his home has the flipping Rain Deer as dragons...
Rain Deer that can fight back
And while this is Monster Hunter, I'm thinking things like this are the local lizards for that place:

That's a Narjala
Introduced 4th Gen and an mid early game monster you fight
Does get harder in later stages of the game but...yeah it's unique
Flings its scales and then uses sonic shockwaves to stun pray AND cause those scales to explode like frag grenades
The scales do what now?
Explosive lizard
They act as sonic bombs and then explode
The other "snake wyvern" is an Elder Dragon
I am in deep question how peeps in MH survived their place
The indomitable human spirit
As well as loyal Felyn assistance
As for the other giant snake...Dalamadur
That rock he's coiled around is a mountain peak
440 meters long, breathes fire, destroys the mountain arena you fight on, so large that his head and tail have their own target locks
Currently, the largest main game monster in the franchise

What a cute dog
Honestly, it doesn't care about people until they bug it
Does it bite?
Been a long while but yes. If not...well that fire breathe is more of a fire tornado

Disintegrated into ash
And yet...NOT the most dangerous creature in the franchise
The largest yes. Dangerous? No
Is it the nergigante? ( I watched one gameplay from the youtuber I watched)
There are those that spread disease like the Magalas or Giasmagorm. There's the hyper carnivore Narcarcos
But recognized as the absolute top dog is Fatalis...specifically White Fatalis
Fatalis, I heard the name but never seen in action
Imagine the typical Western dragon. On first glance compared to later Elders, not that impressive
Except it has the second fastest speed, scares the daylights out of other Elders, and destroyed an civilization in a single night according to in-game legend
AND supposedly targets Hunters, MELTS THEM DOWN, and uses the slag as its own armor
That's just the basic ass Fatalis
destroyed a civilization in one night???
White Fatalis COMMANDS its younger breathern, might be the very one to destroy that kingdom, has command over the most mysterious and possibly dangerous element in the game, and is so old that it doesn't even care about hatred anymore. You are an ant before a god...and you have its attention
what's the point of hunting a god like dragon? A piece of its hide?

You hunt the literal destroyer of ancient civilization to TURN HIM INTO A FUNNY HAT AND BRAG ABOUT IT WITH FRIENDS
Monster Hunter
That's Monster Hunter players
The franchise where you take on literal natural disasters with your friends to turn them into a new armor set and fancy sword before doing it again for funzies
Looks like time to 'ate nature
As for Rain World using snake dragon lizards...
If I do a story for that place I figure it would be a good way to show just how deadly the region is
Catachan dangerous?
That being said, these are creatures meant for one specific environment. They probably would do well in a flat place like Farm Arrays or Outskirts. Industrial, Garbage, or thebupper levels of Chimney? Nope
Too much of a hassle and they are somewhat clumsy
Probably the best way to describe everything from there
Big, scary looking, and to a degree fast but clumsy and unelegant...like an alligator on land or something
Also...flaming your food might kill it but you'd be destroying part of your meal
Hey, got to give the wildlife some limitations
What works in one region won't work in another
I mean...Eels and Salamanders thrive in Shoreline but you won't see them in Sky Islands
Every region has their own specialty of hunters
How goes you 2 today
Does making the wildlife and even purposed organisms more specialized and weakened in some area make them less scary? Yes, but it does give them more character also
It goes. Just worldbuilding the fuana in my setting and explaining why I'm giving them limitations
Harnessing the power of the muse
It's like two monkeys shouting from tree to tree
Am I shoveling coal into that furnace???
Don't worry, it's for the swashbuckling adventures
If so...uh I'm sorry and you're welcome at the same time?
Time to go up like a 100 messages a start reading, then see there are a 100 more when I'm done
LOL
good luck
Actually...how far back do you plan to go??? To yesterday or even further? If even further...may the Guardians have mercy on you
Skimmed from here down
Karma 6 unlocked through the power of obtaining knowledge by reading
So uh...anything you wish to contribute/ask about?
Well, if you need help on how these could biologically work, or need help knowing how a creature would fair in a situation, feel free to ask me
Maybe if I make a story for that region
Do want to write a story for the River Valley (place with all the cybernetics) from the perspective of a normal Slugpup
Well...normal as in "non-purposed organism" normal
So I know what I said about making a Forum when the rough draft is done but I'll let the second chapter stew a bit before I make it. Probably a week to a week and a half of editing because I will need it for this one.
I like a lot of it, but time for the polish (and probably to give Fred time to work without him breaking his wrist... Don't do that Fred)
Though one thing before I disappear into the editing dungeon, Abyss makes another appearance and probably his last for the story. For a prankster all powerful computer god, I made him into a pretty decent individual if I say so myself
I will try not to do that no promises tho
Hey guys I have a question would you like to get updates on the drawing with the image of the current state of the drawing or without to keep the element of surprise
Nvm I have nothing to show I am restarting the drawing again
Good progress very good progress gonna force myself to finish the drawing in the next 2 days
A tad difficult to tell what she's looking at out the window, but it looks good so far!
When I drew the slugcat I meant it to be Narith though now that I am looking at it I'll probably change it to Sliver
So I've gotten no editing done this week due to life... Fred, you have more time
Can't participate since coleg
Understandable from what I have heard from my brother college is awful
First week, many works
Must fight for grades
In the words of Mel Brooks, could be worse...could be raining! (Immediately pours)
Aw man, gonna make some biographies
Also Fred, thought you were going digital...
Lemme prepare my pen and paper for this
It didn't go good
Oh
Maybe after I am done with drawing for Sliver of Saints I will go digital
I just had an idea how to digitalize my draws
First make the drawing on paper then take a picture of it when finished
Second open Krita and put the picture of the drawing and then trace it
And lastly color it
OK so I am procrastinating so the drawing won't be finished any time soon
Not sure if Petre has bren drawn but I decided against the natural armor. He's just a medieval knight lord in Slugcat form. A big guy but that's it
Give or take another week and I'll probably have the second chapter edited to a point I like. Will make a proper forum before upload

(I should stop forgetting to do this) Update on the drawing the scugs are done now the only thing left is finishing the background
Plan to upload this weekend. Maybe Sunday my time
The only thing left to draw is the iterator can thingamabobs
Which I will do tomorrow probably
Uhh I think technical
Nice
I am too lazy to take a picture of the drawing since I barely actually done anything today on it but I did add the thingamabobs on the can except the leg
Mainly because I don't know what I want to do for the leg
It's done I'll probably do some minor edits tomorrow and then it will be actually done but still it's done
Now part or me thinks in thr future they're going to have the equivalent of "London Bridge is Falling Down"
Not sure why the picture made me think that... Nursery rhyme aside, this looks great!
Probably because both in the drawing and in the song there are great things falling down
Also thanks
OK NOW it's actually fully done
Huzzah

So...now that that is going to be in the story, I'm going to be a bit busy in the next month so maybe the third chapter is going to take a while
Do remember to take rest cap
I do. Though me writing this nonsense is kinda my R&R
Well I am gonna have alot of free time than
Assuming I'm not wasting half the day on Rimworld or some nonsense like that
I assume this will mean the picture for Charlie is back on the menu?
Fair
So I am gonna write instead

Thoughts for third chapter: Resume Shogun 2 campaign and play around with gunpowder units to see how much of a game changer they will be when going up against traditional units...
The Guardsman will be taking center stage and will validate the age rating
Also...minor tech leap given the difference between time periods. The wheellocks are invented and starting to replace the matchlocks
Hey, got to show technological progress somehow
Does that mean they're entering the age of gunpowder warfare?
Nimol already has been using a matchlock. We haven't seen it because it's centered around a calm time period where the worst is Sliver needing a restart on life
I see
Also, they've been importing firebush plants (cherrybombs) from the Kutasian League to make gunpowder
Thr League again being effectively "Georgia" alongside the occasional Dragon mercenary who wants to see the world or is earning a right of passage
The rite of passage?
Maybe they're growing up and it's time to learn skills from the outside world that can benefit the tribe or bring back something worthy of showing they've grown up.
Yes, the might is right
The Dragons might be somewhat in the Neolithic tech range, but they know there's a bigger world beyond the Facility Grounds and either they figure a way to keep up in their own way or they just remain isolated behind the fire/acid breathing wildlife and get confused as to how someone invented the biplane
Also, friendly neighbors means more exotic goods, food, and stories to share
And...possibly means to expand the tribe
Making friends with foreigners
Or the foreigners join... And everyone tries to "outdo the yeek population"
That's not the ONLY thing on their minds. But we're talking about a group of people who in their homeland choose a very simple life. They're smarter than most would give them credit for, but they like to live simply
Heads up, "Songs of Alcenta" now has a forum. Unsure at this time if I'll separate "Ackerson Family" from it since they're in the same universe. Second chapter of "Saints of Sliver" will go up tomorrow (my time).
I joined cap
Question will the second chapter go up in the evening your time?
Probably within the hour. If not, then yeah this evening
Ok
Also Fred, the forum is up
Yeah I saw it
Wait derp, you posted the picture. Woops
Praise the Coffee Cult
I already made sure that the forum is blessed by Dadvulet's presence
So how long do you think it'll take for "Dadvulet" to spread across the entire Discord?
What's next? A TV Tropes page of him?
Depends on how long it will take to make everyone in stories-discussion join the coffee cult
But everyone doesn't like coffee
Blasphemy everyone loves coffee they just don't know it yet
I wonder what the region concept is?
A region concept? 👀
It would have been the Misty Isle itself. Most we've seen is the town and a drainage canal so far. Would need to flesh it out, the Test Site in the River Valley is more designed.
When I started, I was thinking semi-medieval Rain World setting but...times have changed and now the Mountain Lake has that
Guess it's time to crack out the Wargroove map maker and make the Isle huh?
About time really I always wanted to see the map of Misty Isle and Alcenta since both of those are quite important in the Ackerson Family universe
The entirety of Alcenta is going to be...complicated. I actually need to think up a name for the contine t the Rainlands are a part of. No, the continent is not "The Rainlands" and there's the part in the northern hemisphere with all the megatherium (giant sloths)
If I do a world map...well either I get the Rimworld mod that let's me modify the actual map or I go real old school with Railroad Tycoon... HOW THE BLEEP AM I SUPPOSED TO MAKE HILLS AND MOUNTAINS LOOK NATURAL IN THAT MAP EDITOR?!
I think the answer is you don't
Ever play the old Zoo Tycoon games where you can change the terrain?
Think that but on a large scale...
Nah I was born too late and in a place where it was not popular
So yes, I can spend time obsessing over a single tile to raise it by five pixels to show a steady incline leading up to a mountain
The problem with Wargroove is that it's meant for small-scale clashes so a large continent is not viable either unless I pull the single biome Star Wars gig
Time to pull out the Rimworld mod huh???
(My computer is going to be cooking a steak with the amount of info I'm going to shove into it...)
You can always use modded rimworld for anything
Well, guess I could do half and half as opposed to everything all at once
So...Misty Isle or the whole damn planet?
I think its best to start on a small scale first so Misty Isle
That I could do easily with Wargroove
Though, the actual location names will be a tad complicated
Ooooh location names that's gonna be useful
Well, more of features to be specific
The canal where II had an improvised psych clinic is easy enough to recognize because it's a canal. But hills, the actual Mountain Iterator, explaining how one set of colored houses is region A while set of color houses that look exactly the same is region B...
It's a custom battlefield map maker, not RPG Maker
Rimworld mod?
Doing the map in Rimworld would take alot longer but it would also be of higher quality
Going to have the island being represent by a continent due to scale
Though, hexagons can be "rounder" than squares
How good are you at maps anyway?
I would definitely do badly I imagine
Well I was thinking make the map using the hexagons in Rimworld, then you could make it look like an actual map of an island and not a mishapened continent
I could probably do that
Should be interesting then
Hold up, which "version" of the Isle? Alcenta or Rain World?
I was thinking of Alcenta but both is good
Because if Rain World...yeah word descriptions and vague splotches on a map would be the best I can do
Alcenta would have roads, a few icons to show where the settlements are (even if they would need to use say the pirate icons), and be more "tame"
By tame I am guessing less forests more towns
Less overgrowth more like it
Rain World might be least "apocalyptic" post-apocalypse game I can think of off the top of my head, but it's still just...
Looking like the Chyrnobol Exclusion Zone where everything just stopped and nature moved in
IDK how else to explain it. The "apocalypse" didn't really happen (outside of the rain but it kinda just became a part of life and normal) but how else do you describe an entire setting that's just broken, decaying, and populated only by the dangerous wildlife?
It ain't Fallout, that's for sure
It's an abandoned world
Quite abandoned
Left to decay and be rebuilt anew
Wonder if the Ancients had their own ruins to crawl over before they built a proper civilization
Maybe there were "Ancients" for the Ancients...
I imagine they forgot about that part of history since they didn't care about history at that time
And then found it again near the void sea
Well they drilled through the ancient ruins to reach the Void Sea... Maybe some of those ruins were still topside for a bit
Most cases of sedimentary rock: Dirt, dust, sand, and other garbage settles down and compacts itself over millions of years
Rain World sedimentary rock: Literal civilizations building on top of one another like it's the Tower of Babel
Anyway, if/when I get to it I'll share an image of the Misty Isle. In the meantime Fred, you said something about an Artificer oneshot? If you're pursuing that, have fun with the writing.
And if you finish the image for Charlie, I look forward to seeing it.
Well I am having fun with writing it thank you
Though I am currently trying to figure out how to write dialogue between Pebbles and Arti
And I'll probably start working on the Charlie drawing after I finish the Artificer oneshot
While I haven't exactly written any stories about the River Valley and the most we've seen is Franco, I could give a list describing the "Test Site" Facility Grounds
Mostly fleshed out as a region
And home to a "Proto-Iterator"
If Abyssal Void is the absolute pinnacle of what an Iterator can become, then Revolutionary Architect of Industry is where the whole thing started
Cap, why is there a custodes mod in rimworld?
Why not?
The custodes are powerful in lore
There's Halo, Mass Effect, a few Warhammer ones, Star Wars, several different mythical creatures...
Why not go nuts and cram it all in?
There's a goofy photo in the Artwork tab on Steam
what
If you've ever seen the Ready Player One movie where essentially the entire world comes in as their avatars, it's basically that
Basically avengers assemble but not?
So yes, why not have Commander Shepherd alongside an Astartes, Spartans, Arc Clones, Gundam, Optimus Prime, etc.
Holy crap, now I imagined it

Cramming everyone in one place
That looks awesome
So yes, why not have Custodes in your colony?
There already are godmachine limbs and eyes without the DLCs, might as well...
there are many things I must learn
At the same time, your colonists may make a rapier with engraved artwork of someone making a fire extinguisher...
I'm not exaggerating, that's a thing in my current run
Masterwork rapier with the art of someone making a fire extinguisher... Okay then
you cannot question a man why he made an engrave on his rapier
Also that fire extinguisher? While I had to mod the item in, it counts as a "weapon" despite being a tool. So it became a normal quality fire extinguisher...
So...what would a "masterwork" fire extinguisher be like and how would it do better at putting out fires than a "normal" one?
Can and will dent armour of your foes while effectively stop fire to spread everywhere
The most legendary fire extinguisher in the world...
Famed for stopping raging infernos with ease and having the most epic art
If you're having siege problems, this the perfect tool/weapon
Then again, you get "masterwork" pet beds and regular beds...
Yes, behold the most legendary hospital bed in the world! You will feel comfortable and have improved medical recovery at the same time!
Masterwork is like Dwarven work, cap
Dwarves are really sensitive towards their craftsmanship
(Put Pebbles onto it)
damn, pebbles is indeed a dwarf
Anyway, thoughts about the "Test Site" in the River Valley idea?
I looked a bit yesterday and feel like I can revise it somewhat but that region is mostly fleshed out
In the second chapter or for the future chapter?
To be specific, this is where "Flamencio" will be down the line where the wildlife is either electric based or cybernetic
And probably would be a future story...or a "past" one
Given I have toyed with the idea of showing a Slugcat exploring the place as if it were in the game. That would mean Paleolithic era
Simulation?
Nope, it would be that far back in the timeline
The bones of "Old Alcenta" are still visible and prominent but quickly being over run by nature, erosion, and the methodical clearing of the super intelligences to clean things up
People would be attaching faulty power cells and batteries to sticks because "sparky thing stuns lizard, stunned lizard easier to kill"
So basically they discovered ancient technology?
They're crawling over it and not understanding it
The same way you crawl over Industrial and find a shiny "rock" and pick it up because it's shiny so it has to be important
So, the Test Site? Is it gonna be a iterator studying the fauna of the old times?
The Tesr Site would be the location for the first prototype of an Iterator, a "Proto-Iterator"
Who has seen the rise of all other Iterators, the disappearance of his creators, the downfall of the old world, and is now seeing the dawn of the new one
In the River Valley Sector?
Yup
So, past time, in the part of the River Valley Sector, a "Proto-Iterator" spotted some life forms and decided to eye on them by letting them stumbling into ancient technology?
And it just so happens, a denizen of that new world wanders into his chamber lost and confused, not understanding why these mountains of metal and rock are so similar to home yet different, why the big walking mountain comes to the tower every week, why the plants are walking in shells of metal, or why these things matter at all
Hm, what do you need for a scenario cap?
Basically, an EARLY teenage caveman walks into a Facility Grounds
Did they spot something unusual except the cold steel ground, walls or the things around them?
So this individual would be the "Student"
An electric Slugcat forced to flee home for their life and is now wandering the Test Site looking for a new place and family. Politics haven't been invented, spears are whatever sharp pointy junk you can pick up, and the decaying ruins of the mighty civilizations of long ago are nothing more than the terrain to navigate
As far as the Student is concerned, finding food and shelter from the dangerous temperatures are the priorities while looking for someplace to call home
Then, they stumbled into the Test Site, looking for morsels or a small game?
More like it was the only shelter nearby
The River Valley is situated in an arid steppe. Blistering heat during the day, freezing cold during the night. The riverbanks offer food, water, and shade from the badlands all around
Unfortunately, said riverbanks also are home to all the wildlife
So either risk it out in the badlands, watch your back next to the water, or take the risk in navigating the one place that's partially like home and holds the most opportunities
The second choice they picked
The third one. I'm thinking the Student grew up in an abandoned power junction up river and is familiar with the industrial setting. If home is too dangerous and these strange, hot, filthy mud banks are too alien to understand, go with the place you at least have a basis of understanding for
A very rudimentary one, but they would be more familiar with stone, steel, and concrete than sand and mud
Also, they are thr obligatory electric Slugcat
So hopping about in power junctions and transformers is normal
Also for time frame reference, this would be quite a while before Shi Chara was founded
They can contribute power to those with their natural ability?
Yup
Naturally evolved electronic discharge
And given some of the other elements in Alcenta, maybe the Student could do a limited Palpatine impression(? Huge maybe)
I only know one Palpatine expression....
"Unlimited... Powah!"
Of course in classic Rain World fashion, the closer you get to finding answers the more questions you get
What's going on with Five Pebbles and the gravity? Why are there murals with my score icon that let's me progress? Why is there a city up here? Why did that robot guy look like the other robot from before?
AND WHY THE BLEEP WAS THAT PLACE FILLED WITH THE BLUE OCTOPUS MONSTER THINGS?!
learning that in the most hardest way possible
Basically, the Student is about to discover a lot more than they bargained for and walk away with a lot of unresolved mysteries
Weird looking things
Scratched off murals
A big mountain of steel
Many, many things
Why is there someone made of metal inside a wall? Why does that Slugcat have metal arms? Why are the plants attacking me? Why does the walking mountain constantly go to that big pillar? What's with that strange island out there the guy with metal arms keeps looking at?
Will I find "home" ever again???
That's a lot of question for the youthful, paleolithic scug
When you're thrown into the deep end like in Rain World, you get a lot of questions
It goes from being a simple creature lost in the city to questions about the environment, the strange creatures, the Iterators, and whatever the Void is
The Student doesn't have to worry about the Void (or at least in Alcenta. Rain World Student very much would have to consider it), but questions start to pop up when looking for something in a Facility Grounds
"Weird, what's with these strange markings on the wall? They aren't lizards, that's for sure."
Been watching a guy play the game for the first time as Survivor and he's been piecing together some context clues very well
Not everything, but he has a decent idea about why Shadded is "shaded," a vague idea about Purposed Organisms, and that there really is something much larger than him happening in the background
So far...he's discovered Unfortunate Development

Funnily enough, I went the same way and I died mostly trying to grab the collectible
Still not sure about the left side but...I'll find out sooner or later
Anyway, mostly wanted to share to concept of the Test Site
Still need to write Saints and give Kelly his own focused story

-# meanwhile, juggling about a scplike fic, tea (TSA), smoothening the brain of Apex, raindeer hunting, and the other perspective
Me, accidentally turning Apex into Forrest Gump
He became Forrest Gump
But tbh, I kinda like that Apex learned his surroundings and adapting quickly not just by hunting it down but rather understanding them
And friends!
Especially friends
(And food also)
Now what about having food with friends?
A harder task but with high relationship, he can manage
(Is this guy just a weaponized Slugcat Boron? Let's see: big guy, not the sharpest knife but sharp enough, eats a lot, likes friends... Boron, I think you're best friend is on a different continent...
(Boron being one of the kids in Fuga)
Speaking of Fuga
I hate college sometimes for bringing up shit in the first week
?
I cannot watch the cutscenes
Ah
Biographies until midterm
Now speaking of those, gonna head to sleep, good luck on writing
Yup
