#Ackerson Family

So I wasn't able to get any info on 1960 camera resolution outside of it being bad...womp
Well Fred, Kelly has two cameras as you know. The Polaroid instant one (which is worse quality but convenient and in color) and the wind up film one (slower, more work intensive, not in color, but better picture quality)
Also guys, question kinda revolving around Kelly. So it's clear both Charlie and Kelly really care about Ryan and don't want to give him PTSD episodes. That being said, Ryan had been involved in what would equate to WWII on steroids and witnessed first hand some of the most pivotal moments. I cane easily see a "Band of Brothers" production taken both in as a media source and to tell the story behind the events. Think Kelly should be one of the leaders behind a project aiming for authenticity despite being a cameraman?
Because let's be honest about the real world for a sec, Band of Brothers did so well because it still had members of Easy Company to interview and consult who saw and did those things. I haven't seen Masters of thr Air but I know the quality isn't as good simply because the men who flew those planes aren't around anymore
I haven't watch the band of brothers
Really?
Me neither
Huh...very good show but it's as faithful to the real events as Hollywood allows
Supposedly, Tom Hanks said that getting 12% accuracy would be brilliant and that they were aiming for 18%
I know that seems low for historical accuracy but...Hollywood
An old show?
Like...2001 I think
The Pacific came out 2011 and it followed the 1st Marines (also had Sgt John Basilone covered, remember me mentioning him?)
Yes, the legend who got killed during the early landing
Of Iwo Jima
Point is, Band of Brothers was extremely faithful to the actual training regimen, battles, tactics, people, places, and events even with Hollywood theatrics
They had the actual veterans to consult and interview. If something was wrong that could be fixed, they damn well fixed it
Just like how they did in Hacksaw Ridge?
Things they couldn't exactly fix were the specific "who did what" due to actors, it being impossible to recreate everything 1 to 1, and they kept taking their helmets off in the show for whatever reason despite being in the field
Back to Kelly with all of that
Kelly knows Ryan was there and did things. I can see him getting annoyed that whatever studio he would be working for is not really capturing what happened due to being more interested in the big screen theatrics
Does that mean pressuring the matter?
More like first raising enough of a fuss to get the attention of directors who also would care about retelling history as opposed to theatrics and, more importantly for what I'm looking at, him actually asking his father if he would do an interview
Because once someone is gone, the story goes with them
An accuracy of the thing rather than going on like a blaze or "war is fun"?
More or less
The accurate presentation of war
Granted, this would be looking for the Taranis crew (who would be middle-aged adults by this point) and other individuals who were at the actual scene. But this would be personal
If I ask, despite it could be spoiler, did anyone in the Taranis died? Like a casualty of war?
Well...the plan so far is no but Fuga 3 hasn't gotten even a proper teaser trailer yet so that won't exactly be the focus
The scene would be more of Kelly telling everyone what is in the works and him offering Ryan the opportunity to tell his story despite knowing how much truama Ryan experienced as Ruffles
I can see Kelly being a pioneer in new camera techniques also which would give him leeway. He's an Ackerson kid after all, of course he is going to be great at what he does
Especially gramps would be proud :)))
I'm just wondering if such a scene would work well...
And again, it's more about the authenticity of the story rather than theatrics
The accurate representation of war, the sudden events happened
Prior to Spielberg and Hanks releasing Saving Private Ryan (if you haven't seen that, be ready for one hell of a ride because it is one), a lot of WWII movies likely did not really capture the conflict of WWII
The saving private ryan was hell
Big Red One showed some stuff, but it was still mostly "USA leads the way! We're heroes who save the day!" kind of gig
Especially the Omaha assault
Exactly
The big red soloed the germans back to their place
Which while maybe true, it wasn't glamorous
Oh boy, let us use manpower :)))
LE being the commissar and Apex being the conscripts
Band of Brothers had the paratroopers rushing into Carentan against heavy machine gun fire and then repel an armored infantry assault on the flank while outgunned and low on ammo
Seeing that name made me shiver in CoH 1
They stormed the Netherlands in Market Garden and saw cities get burnt to the ground in retaliation. A platoon drives off two full companies thanks to superior training, firepower, and leadership
They are sent to Bastogne under equipped with no winter clothes, limited ammo, and almost no medical equipment
And then as they storm into Germany, they are mopping up and looting as they go
It isn't pretty and has a lot of questionable actions
The paratroopers hold off against armour company
(If you can beleive it, these guys had it better than the Marines in the Pacific theatre... That was just straight up nasty)
Easy Company did as the two other companies temporarily broke and retreated. Easy held for hours until a US armored company arrived to help
Imperial Japanese:
Soldiers trained to be ruthless and sticking the way of the Bushido is the one thing you don't wanna mess
The point of all of that is that these events happened and it was not heroic
In my setting, Kelly would understand that fact and he doesn't want the sacrifices of millions to be reduced to big screen theatrics
Neither would Charlie for the record. The big difference would be that Charlie would prefer to do his homework by reading books and records as opposed to asking people because he's too sympathetic and anxious about causing PTSD episodes
Just look up a video about the Battle of Alligator Creek... That was just the beginning
I mean, trauma could lead to something
Aye, cap'n
Better yet, I can't stay up late
That 1 am really getting back to me
I'll bet
TLDR: I'm thinking of a scene where Kelly mentions he is helping set up the framework of a new show that accurately portrays the events and he's asking Ryan to do an interview for direct reference material. Yay or nay?
Oya, Fred, what do you say?
That makes two yays, cap'n
Also...this would probably be in my grand sendoff story for the Ackerson Family series. Charlie and Kelly are adults, Sev and Ryan are actual grandparents, things are looking up all around, and the family is together
I'd say a pretty good way to close this series would be over a nice warm mug of coffee and a plate of eggs for breakfast

That's actually heartwarming
And I think gonna cry for it after seeing that (I'm very family oriented)
Hey, this series started with Charlie waking up and having coffee and eggs despite complaining about eggs for the umpteenth time. What better way to close it out when I eventually do?
Nah, the eggs won't be his problem as it is now a part of a memory, happy ones and sad ones
Well, let's see where I go until then
Well that would be quiet a nice and fitting ending
Future me will handle that, present me needs to continue Saints and think up a proper Kelly story after that
I'm actually sad but this is the happiest ending you could have as a family :(((
Now I must bid adios, good day to you guys

Bye
Bye bye
Well, some more writing done. Still going to take a while for Sliver to become Saint but oh well. In the meantime, her purposed organisms!
To start off, Chea the Mason: Blue furred scavenger with a bionic backpack filled with extra arms and tools, making her Doctor Octopus if he were an Iterator maintenance worker
Can she harness the power of the sun?
Next is Nimol the Arbalist: Khaki furred Slugcat with armor, maybe an inch taller than average, physically strong, and carries himself with importance. When he speaks, you listen because he's as good a statesman as he is a soldier
No
:(((
Finally Dialect the Councilor: Ash-gray fur, going to be thin in a graceful way, and an excellent diplomat. Don't think that a frail appearance or him being soft-spoken means he's a pushover (or him being a research line with a focus for culture), he can stand his own with a hatchet or a short sword
AKA, Sliver's three purposed organisms covering maintenance, combat, and research in the respective order given
Anton, are the names decent?
(Have other names to cover but one thing at a time)
They good, so Sliver got three purposed organism named Arbalest, Chea, and Dialect
Nimol is the Arbalist
Yea, the names are decent
Might as well knock out the other names I've cooked up fast
Sliver's patron city: Shi Chara
Oh? Do elaborate the other names you have
The lake: Lake Ri’Taln
Religious caste: Kshenta
The civilization group name: Havarda Confederacy
Two suspects Nimol is looking into regarding troubling rumors: vizier Hanzen of House Spearflower and chaplin Cothsyn
That's all the made up names I have made
So far...
Well, those are decent names
Phew, great
I've made up names/places/people before, but I'm playing it a tad safe here again
So I'm glad I did things right

I am guessing he is a slugcat
Yes. Only Chea is a Scavenger. The other two are Slugcats
Alright then
There is a chance that the Kelly drawing will be done tomorrow
But having good rest, correct?
Yep
Also, wanna try to make ocs and crap?
Later
Aight, nighttime closing in on mine and it's currently 11 pm
Headaches forbid me to drink coffee tho
Devastating I hope tomorrow you won't have a headache so that you could follow the way of Dadvulet
How have I made a coffee cult? What is this, the 1700's?!
Nothing can stop coffee man, it's too powerful
Except the Great Depression where Brazil destroyed a year world supply of it
the 1920's
They wanted to keep the global cost up so they reduced the supply
Intentionally draining the coffee, first time for me hearing it
But inflations tho
I think the Depression was deflation
On the mother of all scales...
Everyone thinks inflation is bad when a small amount actually is beneficial
How so?
Not sure about the exact details but it typically means the economy is doing well, there's growth and competition, stuff like that
When it gets out of hand though, then that's where the problems arise where everything skyrockets
That could crash an economy
If everything stayed the same, the economy stagnates
Too much inflation, no one can afford anything
Too much deflation, nothing has value
It's very delicate and easy to mess up obviously
I feel like I'm back at ethics and morals rn
Unfortunately, the world has a very good habit of messing it up
Everyone would do the fumble
Of course, something needs to have "value" to be worth something
Fallout actually does a good job of this
In the lore, drinking water actually was the immediate standard in the post apocalypse
But you kinda need water to live so you'd be drinking your money...
So instead, the Wasteland shifted to the bottle cap
At first glance, those are worthless
But they were impossible to counterfeit, could be used as a standard currency, and ubiquitous enough that nearly anyone could get their hands on them
Economics is messy and complicated, an entire field of science in itself
Part of interdisciplinary of social sciences
The economy is something we don't wanna touch
But still fumbled
After that 4th chapter, I have the writing to continue the 7th chapter
They have been there for half a year so gonna write it
Apex or LE?
Well, I have a scene in mind of him giving LE another aneurism soonish
Interrupts private call and wants to say hi to Sliver
How much what?
Of an aneurism
Nice
And pretty soon, like Three managed to pacify the battlefield until both of them showed up (Sitter didn't caused it but the other one did)
...Apex...you should know you're on the same team right??? Right? RIGHT?
The red lizard indeed and the scav population ain't happy for it
But a lot pearls could pacify the fight (but on artificer ain't)
Idk, I'm making shit up as I go
But in mind, I already thought like oasis first then marching through desert, found Three calmed down angry skrunkly fight, Apex started it again, chaos ensued, Three saved Sitter from the fight, talking talking and then marched into familiar ground
Nice
(Meanwhile, wonders what nationality to borrow from for the River Valley sector which neighbors Alejandro...)
What does the River Valley sector looked like? (In your mind)
Hot and arid mudflats, most of it sustainable during to the overflow of the river
Arid climates are a lot actually
Has a "Proto-Iterator" in control of a shoreline refinery/industrial complex along with nearby offshore drilling platform, a mountain fortress monastery at the other end of the river, and a walking Iterator ferrying supplies from end of the valley to the other
The mountain monastery does include its own Iterator
Arid climates, has shoreline refinery, near a mountain monastery at the end of a river
With an AT-AT Iterator
Sorry cap, I got nothing, there are times I do not know about geography
Morocco???
I mean, Alejandro is either going to be Spainish or Latin American with his inspiration
Just just keep the Spanish/Hispanic theme going...
I mean Morocco does have the Spanish theme
And it is an arid nation
But idk about the other notable locations
Mexico???
What I do have a solid theme for the River Valley is that it would be the most "militant" place from the Ancients
Rain World lore wise we could say it has a history of conflict or something like that
Alcenta though...it was the border to one of the "old world" nations
Many conflicts on that sector?
The Ancients would have had very good reason to have an armed border guard for defense purposes
When said neighbors are the ones who developed the Rot in case they needed to fight against their southern neighbors...
So, River Valley is the DMZ checkpoint and has a boatload of cybernetic purposed organisms...and an electric Slugact who grew up in the powerplants
Gonna put it near the river
I do have some stuff fleshed out for the River Valley
Also, you thought Miros Vultures are bad?
The walking Iterator has an airforce of cyborg Cyan lizard/Miros Vulture hybrids tailor built for defense
And maintenance
I would have them do that or something along those lines
Alejandro himself might be chill, but his old superiors designed the Rot in case their southern border became ANOTHER battle line
World conflict
And this Rot I'm thinking is even scarier than Rain World Rot
Just look up Rimworld Anomaly's Fleshbeasts
Gonna buy me some coffee
Will do
Now combine that with the Rain World Rot...
A biological computer virus tailor built to KILL ITERATORS and Ancient purposed organisms
They looked like tyranids but not insectoids looking
Instead, walking piles of rotting meat with spikes...how lovely
So let's mix those in because why not an FP accidently gets an infection of them alongside the standard Rain World walking tumors
YIPPEE
Oh and better yet because there's more like Oxi Clean!
They can make underground cave networks...
And burrow up
And when you kill the hivemind, the caves collapse
Or better yet
The pulls an actual Rain World Rot and spreads everywhere and you need to synthesize a toxin in order to deal with the growing meat department rejects
So yeah...the Iterators are scared of this stuff and their purposed organisms also have good reason to fear it also
It could spread everywhere, must terminate
At the very least, Anomaly monsters are quite flammable
So...crack out the flamethrowers and start the barbeque
And where do the Rot occurs on your setting?
Well remember how Sev has a very bad opinion about Pebbles? He fell for a Trojan Horse version and went a tad insane and made her do clean up duty on top of his "holier than thou" attitude
Moon had to lock the place down and the communication arrays also suffered due to the rampant chaos and Sev basically had to fix this mess...when her whole gig is not this
oh boy
As for the war setting...someone kinda took a nap and wants "their" world back and has noticed a distinct lack of former enemies laying around. Better grap that biological computer virus our enemies had in store for later once we restart our war machine. Now about those Wargs?
The combined nations and the Rubicon Offensive: What...the...hell is that? Where did they get Rot bioweapons and why are those a thing???
The power of bioweapons
The Iterators are so scared of the Rot a group developed a specific counter unit for it. I'm going to have them be the Biological HazardousWeapon Containment unit, often just nicknamed the "B-Hawks"
But does the countering unit gets countered?
You know how nations have special units against nuclear and biological weapons?
That's going to be the B-Hawks
Crack troops tailor built to deal with anything and everything imaginable
Toxic purposed organism? Rimworld chemfuel fire? Rot outbreak? Someone using chemical weapons? These are the guys who are built and trained to deal with that environment
Truthfully, they pretty chill. Everyone else looks at them with suspicion and admiration due to their jobs
Great guys to have on your side or to just talk with, VERY BAD news when they show up and they're working because something absolutely awful is going on even by purposed organism standards
Anyway, the Rot is going to really be one of those horrors from the Alcenta of old. It'll make a bit of a cameo and be released briefly, but it's implications are the more terrifying aspect rather than it's actual deployment
Horrors beyond comprehension
Speaking of...how far into Fuga did you get?
Sadly still in the first gameplay
So, so tempted to bring something up
Tryna understand the starting point
From the game or my lore?
The game
To avoid late game stuff, I'll give the basics of the first chapter
Ten years before the start, the neighboring country of Berman effectively had a military coup with its leader, literally Kaiser is his name, declaring himself emperor. They go on to conquer other nations and make extensive use of airship. Who Kasier is outside of being the "Berman Emperor" is unknown currently.
Fast forward to present day, the Bermans are invading the Free Lands of Gasco and are steamrolling their way through the country due to military enthusiasm, technological advantages, and the Gasconians lacking their own real experience
Gasco looked like France in some point
In the north western provinces, the Bermans are systematically rounding up villages and deporting them elsewhere. This is done regardless of strategic value or reason, the people are nabbed and shipped off. One such village is Petit Mona
As the trope goes, one dark and stormy night the Bermans attack the town. There is no Gasconian military in the area, it's in the middle of nowhere, and the worst thing to worry about is the smell of manure. Nevertheless, the Bermans round everyone up...except for six kids who make a break for it
Following the advice of a radio, they make for the forbidden cave in the mountains and find a slumbering giant waiting for them...
What follows next changes everything. For the kids, for Gasco, for Berman, and the world
That is enough to explain the games without going into detail about the big secrets and surprises
Oh, wait. One more thing
The head commanding officer in charge of the invasion: Colonel General Shvein Hax. A merciless, cruel, fanatical soldier who somehow KNOWS about the Taranis and strangely, very enthusiastic about its sudden intervention despite it countering his invasion
Needless to say, one of the big bads I will have to work with
A certain general who has the obsession of finding the thing?
Not quite...
He's excited about the Taranis but not because he specifically wants it
Though, a different big bad that I'm going to make wants the Taranis for himself and that one is the one who brings Wargs, pulse weapons, and the Rot into the mix
Also as some trivia, Hax looks like a doberman M. Bison by character design...go figure
Gonna look up some lore :)))
As for how Hannibal and Seven come into this picture, they honestly had no idea about the Taranis. They knew of it due to it being on a list of "things to be on the look out for" but they weren't going after it initially. It's not until rumors of a giant tank running amuck they drop their task and chase after it
I would be surprised a tank that has the size of a warehouse running around and trampling defenses as if they are twigs wouldn't peak my interest
Meanwhile to the north in the counter offensive against the Bermans and Tsarists, a corporal quickly finds herself in conspiracy surrounding the ancient facilities surrounding the countryside they are liberating. Also, what's with the rumors down south? Something about a "Steel Devil?"
Oh well, looks like that Colonial unit needs saving again. Those guys fight hard and are good people. Wonder if that rifleman and medic are still going back and forth about coffee...
Martin and Ryan on the other hand tho
Well crap, here we go again! Where's our back up?! Oh wait...the Republic is saving our ass again. Well, at least whatever the hell is going on down in Gasco is giving us the breakthrough we need... Who wants coffee???
Artemis watching this: You're both stupid and so is your coffee
Honestly, the Colonial Regiment is going to be that group of side characters who keep showing up despite being only a cog in the machine
Arti, our precious looking at a pic where she's sitting on a pile of dead scavs
Actually...she's working with other Scavengers in the unit
She doesn't hate all Scavengers, just the one tribe that ruined her life
She'll have some extra bite because she's bitter, but a kid shaking and looking like he's going to piss himself isn't a marauder who gets their kicks out of burning frontier settlements
She does makes exceptions, interesting :)))
More like she knows who her enemies are and she's more than a one track minded character
Oh yeah, somewhere behind the lines, a fluffy individual is going to be playing the piano and have absolutely zero clue about his family history
Saint: focusing on becoming a pianist
The saint bloodline:
Anyway still need to get there, will need to think up a one shot for Kelly, and have A Symphonic Harmony to write
Captain I have a question where are Kelly's fins placed on his body
It's fine don't worry there is a chance that I wont draw the fins anyway since there is not alot of space for me to draw them
Okay
Probably will get my answer at the end but which version of Kelly is this? Toddler, kid, or adolescent?
Kid
...The High Butt Council shall decide your fate I see
Well, looking forward to it
Bet he'll be adorable
And devious
Anyway, more progress and I guess I'll give an update since it's going slowly: Sliver is having a mental breakdown due to being "purposeless" after doing a perfect job of establishing a progressive civilization and is being confronted by her creations
This also comes after a botched confession to the only Iterator in her local group she could trust before getting cold feet...
No, LE was not the one and let's be honest he would be a terrible person to confess a life crisis to
Nah, he isn't
He would not confess anything that sees as weakness
More like he would be a terrible person to confess to
Still we got like three more
I even have Sliver saying "Well I don't need to say much about him"
That leaves to POE, TBT or GDT
It was GDOT or Theory
Alright that leaves to them
Which is funny since Theory is actually very conservative and old school compared to Sliver's progressive mindset
Theory disagrees with the rapid social reforms and sees the breakdown of the caste system as destabalization of social order BUT acknowledges it's working for Sliver and respects her methods
GDOT: I'm slow, narrow minded, and still value the traditions of our creators even if I can see the benefits of letting them go.
The conservatism method
It's funny to see some peeps hold something in the past and it actually effective sometimes
Again, Theory is a hard line traditionalist but doesn't ram that down other people's throats and keeps a very civil conversation with conflicting opinions
Reasonable guy
Also...very concerned when Sliver goes from panic breakdown to almost no emotions and suddenly leaves despite her asking for a talk
I'm having Sliver being depressed because her city doesn't need her, her purposed organisms don't need her, her local group doesn't need her, and the only thing left is the original "Great Problem" which...we all know how that turns out in Rain World
Basically, she feels like she's a purposed organism with no purpose
And so she turned herself into a scug after that?
And this isn't just a temporary break, she literally feels like she has accomplished everything and she has NOTHING to do
Haven't gotten there yet
But it's getting there. If she's not needed as a goddess and it does appear that the average citizen lives a fulfilling life...
What purpose you serve if you have done the very purpose
Yes
He won, has complete reign of the city, and had everything...and he has nothing
Much better than the crappy sequel
Haven't seen it but I'll take your word for it
He killed Metroman and there was nothing
Never watch it
Basically, Sliver feels like Shi Chara doesn't need her because it's self-sustaining and self-improving at this point
So...time for her to move on
And did she informed the local group?
Not yet
If anything, the only one's who will know up until the big reveal are her, her three purposed organisms, and AV. AV knows because he's AV (AKA the Rainlands local omnipresent Archotech)
Shock and confusion for the most part
Some outrage, some acceptance, some thinking good idea, mostly just confusion
The outrage from LE most likely and GDOT might be on the acceptance
This would be a full broadcast beyond the group with even AV giving some help. All Iterators in the Rainlands will get a sudden message that Sliver has uploaded herself into a new body and left behind instructions for anyone else who wishes to do the same
The big reveal for Sliver
I mean, I have to give her a reason to want to do this and since no one has done it before she's scared what others would think if they catch wind
Push back against the idea, actively send purposed organisms to stop her, message spam, the works
So...best to stay quiet and work in secret
At the very least, no direct neighbor to worry about and there's a whole stinking lake to drink from
Indeed, she'll be afraid of committing the first
Also, this isn't really her being selfish
As far as she can tell, the city is in a golden age and well on its way for cultural and scientific progress without her. She's really not needed locally, the entire sector is stable, there's no big world catastrophe at the moment...
So rather than just sit there working on the "Great Problem" losing brain cells in the process might as well get off of her metal ass and LIVE
Live like a scug
Granted, she knows it's a one way trip and she'll be giving up a lot. But she'll be getting the chance to live freely
No purpose other than her own, the fate of the world wouldn't rely on her, and she gets to be a person rather than a super computer
SRS thinks the same centuries later because Alcenta saw the true scope of what could be unleashed and just how close they nearly blew themselves up like the old world did. As far as SRS is concerned, the Iterators outlived their purpose, the purpose they gave themselves, and the need for a bunch of old fools who are incredibly detached from the rest of the world
That's a lot
Sliver is the first to simply choose a life outside of "purpose"
If other purposed organisms can choose to live, why can't an Iterator?
Life doesn't need a "purpose" and she wants to live
Sev meanwhile literally can't wrap that concept around her head. Sev NEEDS a purpose. She knows life isn't like that, but she has to rationalize that there is a purpose to do something
Two different mindsets for two drastically different purposed organisms deciding to take fate into their own hands
Anyway, while I'll avoid causing madness in the main chat how are things here?
It's fine now cap
Idk how did politics got there but it's finally pacified
Time to shed off the excess coffee
That was...mildly my fault. Started with discussion about the Platypus, then Human sapience, then evolution, then history in general, and then politics
So...it just happened and while I'm glad it didn't explode, I really did not mean for it to go there
Politics involving the setting, characters, and story is good. Real world...ha ha, ha ha, let's not
Earth lore is real
Man, I don't even know politics
I only know ideologies
Anyway, looked at the Steam art page and saw a new inspiration for possibly different sector (how many can I squeeze into half a continent? Maybe 20?)
Basically, four armed Slugcat was thr picture
We already have the caramel lizards which have six limbs (look closely and you can see the extra legs), why not have a sector where the Iterators went a bit strange?
Gene stealer?
I mean back at Chasing Birds, I did write about the "mistakes" LE made
Maybe I'll have a case example of this Kelly's oneshot with this individual being the gym teacher
A four armed scug?
As a gym coach
Hey, the Misty Isle is both a place people just live in and a place purposed organisms run to get a fresh start
Not important, not really in the way for other nations to care about it, yet in the right place for the Iterators and secret societies to run to if needed for assignements
Also thinking something along the lines of them being their own civilization perhaps? One of the colonial holdings that got invaded and had to fight for independence probably...
A civilization that hasn't been colonized yet?
More like what happened to Latin and South America...
That or the colonial holdings swapped due to foreign diplomacy
I mean, can they hold off against powerful nations?
My guess is a particularly strong invasion force came in. Maybe the Scramble for Africa style with machineguns and heavy artillery type of situation
Iterators can't release the special weapons because they would fall into the hands of the invaders
Scramble the Africa situation?
Just like how the Anglo-Zulu war?
Yeah
They can't send their purposed to help the natives because they'll get captured by enemies?
The interior would make their stand due to the environment and tenacity but the coast would be lost
They already know that they'll lost the battle then?
I'm thinking along the lines of this being a Berman colonial holding
And the Bermans in Fuga...have a very militant and narrow mindset
Iterators and their organisms would cut losses and fall back into the jungles. Better to save lives than to face off against a navy. Now isn't the time to cross the Rubicon...
How strong their navy are?
Let's see...
Right now probably would be coal fueled or possibly early diesel (or their equivalents). Given this invasion would happen decades earlier, airship tech wouldn't be around but high explosives and decent early machine guns would
Now I do have the mad idea of a submarine Iterator but either too busy elsewhere or they're on standby for Rubicon
The way I'm seeing it, the Iterators in that group (tentative name being the Northeast Seacoast Sector right now) were more focused on establishing a civilization than having a team ready
El submarino
So...you have a xenophobic foreign nation invade, the purposed organisms are more to support the civilization as opposed to be ready for a situation, and said civilization is alien even by Rainlands standards
Like catachan standards or lower than that?
As for why the Peninsula Sector (the ofgicial Iterators we know and love) has such a proficient military and secret society is because of different philosophies, the environment is far more wild, and the nation that went there is less violent
More like the Prussian military if they went colonizing
Damn
Not as bad as what's to come under Kaiser, but definitely having an attitude and a superiority complex
Also...the nation that colonized the Peninsula and which Ryan/Ruffles, Martin, and Artemis served under I'm thinking would be the Yorkshire Federation. I'm anxious about that though since Yorkshire is a real place, but not a nation...
Don't worry, it's just all writing :)))
(Also...would have a large population of Yorkshire Terriers and thus would be nicknamed "Yorkies" by the rest of the world)
All right
So...yeah the Berman Confederacy of the time expanded as a means of land grab and military might while the Federation decided slow expansion and mutual agreements with the local tribes
Ah yes, the teaming up with natives to fight for their lands
Well different places
The Yorkies would be fighting more against the Outer Expanse than anything else so working with the locals would benefit all. The locals get a trade partner and advanced goods, the Yorkies get a slow expansion inland, and the Iterators don't have to worry about their stuff getting nabbed
Up north meanwhile is a different story
Also would give context for one of the kids aboard the Taranis...
Aw man, Fuga is many
But gonna watch it, coffee was used for house chores and writing now
To be clear, this is my having funzies with the various lore plots and settings
I'm also thinking a colonial holding a tad further north with a Megatherium kingdom getting nabbed as well who was on good terms with the neighbors
At least they were before the foreign invasion came in and turned them into a colony
So...basically I'm having the idea of an African Bush War in the back of my mind along with coastal raiders trying to take back their homeland
Too many...
Stick to cameos Captain. You can explain the setting as you write other stories
I'm chill with it
SoS first, then oneshot
I see, is it in wips now?
Still
Yup
I am gonna force my lazy ass to finish the drawing today
I see, how's the art Fred?
Good only coloring is left
Well Fred, you don't have worry about drawing wacky four armed Slugcats anytime soon at least. Right now, I'm aiming to finish the first chapter of Saints (taking a long time I know, life has been interesting) and I'll have cameo stuff. Let the stories do the world building and all that jazz
I kinda of glad that the first chapter of Sliver of Saints is taking so long because that means that I don't have to lock in yet to make the SOS drawing with her purposed organisms
(though I feel like some one is gonna kill me for making that statement)
Yeah past week threw me for a loop and a half so things are off
Also...I'm back to playing Total War so that... STOP BLOCKING MY TRADE PORTS! I NEED THOSE YOU BASTARDS
So aggravating that 90% of my money is going to repairs just so I can have money
Warfare is complicated but I will achieve victory in the end
So who would play what? Think FP would play Civ?
Oh well
Besides the fact I need to focus on one thing at a time, thoughts about new civ I spontaneously added plus their issues?
I'll again weave it into other stories like a merchant showing up in Saints or a gym coach for Kelly. But I feel like it really is showing just how expansive the Rainlands are as well as the world of Alcenta
I just realized that you are Survivor now congratulations 🎊
Yay
My arm hurts from coloring
Get caught in 240p -Kelly
Well that's cute
Though...he looks like he came out of Monsters Inc... Must be me
I'll upload it later
I didn't have navy blue so i improvised
More of the grin for me. It's good, please don't take it the wrong way
I won't
Cool
Praise be, huzzah
Another interaction with Lost Extinction. Apex shows up the goofy stinker.
Mountain Lake Group Encrypted Channel - Private Message
Sliver of Straw, Lost Extinction
LE: Yes Sliver, what is it?
SOS: Sorry to bother you, Extinction.
SOS: I know you’re busy with your city and personal projects so I’ll keep this brief.
SOS: You have a substantial genetic collection from around the world, correct?
LE: That I do.
LE: Though far from complete, I have one of the largest genetic banks in the entire world.
SOS: I have a new project that may require a great deal of genetic experimentation.
SOS: While my genetic banks are adequate, I wish to broaden my horizons and have as many options open as possible.
LE: A new purposed organism Sliver?
LE: My, my.
LE: This is supris-
LE: Apex!
SOS: Extinction?
LE: What are you doing in here you rodent?!
LE: No!
LE: I’m busy!
LE: There’s plenty of marauders on the border for you to drive off if you’re bored!
SOS: Apex got into your puppet chamber again and is trying to play with you, isn’t he?
LE: Just give me a minute Sliver.
LE: No, this is a private conversation.
LE: You can’t just barge in and interrupt me Apex.
SOS: How about a video feed?
SOS: I wouldn’t mind.
LE: Oh fine.
LE: One moment…
Video feed connection established
LE:__ Sliver!__
SOS: Hello Apex.
SOS: How are you today?
LE: Hungry.
LE: Of course you’re hungry.
LE: You’re always hungry!
LE: Market won’t sell food.
SOS: Actually, I have a solution that might benefit us all.
SOS: Apex you remember Nimol and Dialect, correct?
LE: Friends still upset about kitchen?
LE: What did you do in Sliver’s city Apex?
SOS: They’re not angry Apex.
SOS: Just leave the cooking to them next time.
SOS: That being said, think you can deliver a package to them?
LE: I see where this is going Sliver.
LE: Send a list of what you want and I’ll send this incessant rodent over with a pearl.
LE: Food tomorrow if package delivered?
SOS: Yes Apex.
SOS: But you must deliver that package and be patient for the food.
LE: Package to friends, food after good job done.
LE: Understood Sliver, will go immediately!
LE: Apex wait!
LE: I haven’t even received the requirements to prepare the package you’re delivering!
Underlined is Apex, regular is LE himself
Glad I did him justice. Figured the goober would care about food but also be somewhat of an endearing goofball who also likes going a good job
They would do anything for food
Even charging blindly to enemy machinegun just to get some dinner
Probably will get some more done over the course of the week. Will spend some more time editing to polish and the such. Not entirely sure what to do about AV being scary by existing...
Current plan for AV, deliberately trips Sliver's alarms in a line to her puppet chamber despite nothing happening, "Inv" just chills on appearance, some dialogue with AV pulling the deliberate over the top eldritch terror appearance for giggles before getting serious, some explanations as to why Sliver is actually scared, AV supports her free will and then leaves to let her make a final choice
What's the plan cap
Get to the scene first since I'm still writing the chapter. Then write a draft I'm okay with and see what everyone's reactions are

Maybe not everything, but definitely where AV makes his grand appearance and the paragraph explaining why Sliver is sweating bullets despite it being her cooling cycle
A supreme god questioning a local god
More along the lines of "so this is what you're up to... Interesting. So what's bothering you about?"
AV is not malevolent and he really does have the best interests of the world at heart. And even with his insane power, he's still an Iterator so he understands how she feels
Look, Sitter. Funny slugcat.” They pointed below the cliff. Two groups of scavengers who were separated and a fiery red slugcat with orange tips on its fur. But somehow their body begs to differ since he somehow looked a lot more like a lizard than a slugcat. For his body is stocky like a lizard, along with his hide that is covered by his fur but his head is mostly a slugcat. He has frills on his back tracing to his tail. He raised both arms to pacify both warring tribes.
He shouted something as if it made the scavengers calm, even though their eyes filled with fierce bloodlust and hatred as they stared at one another.
“Apex, I don't we should-” After that, Apex jumped onto a scavenger group. “APEX!”
“Helping funny slugcat!” They shouted gleefully. It made the slugcat-lizard look up, his eyes widened.
“NO!” As he yelled frustratingly and Apex landed on the scavenger group, tearing them apart.
As the chaos ensued again, the other scavenger group threw their spears at their assailant. The fight broke out again and the slugcat was in the middle of it.
So what do you think how I write bout Three?
Kinda hard tho since I don't really know his body structure and all
Yeah I can see that happening. Mediator struggling to have peace talks work and then random third party just shows up and chaos happens. A bit comical but given how scatterbrained Apex is, I'd say it works.
As for Three, I'd say you nailed it pretty good.
Also somehow Apex reminds me a lot of Caboose from Red vs. Blue. Has a brick for a brain, impossibly strong and powerful, and has his moments of both brilliance and utter stupidity
Night
Okay so I got a bit mad at an unfinished fanfiction that I really liked so much in fact that I got enough determination to write something and that something was Enot having a very very bad day and I am quite surprised about how well it went i mean its still bad but still I really liked the experience it was very enjoyable which means there is a chance that I will write a fanfic for the Ackerson Family yippee
Ooh!
Nice
So...any immediate ideas Fred? In the family? The C-20's? The various friends? Random people on the other side of the island?
Not yet
After watching Zulu, I have the knowledge to create a one shot (which isn't rw) some native and colonial conflict
Ever see "The Lion and the Wind"? Good movie that goes into the politics of colonialism and imperialism before the onset of WWI
An old movie?
Ooh, gonna watch it soon
Has inspiration of the 1904 Perdicaris Affair
Oh boy, somehow old movies are better than new ones
Another old movie that's great (and semi-relevant that this battle ended yesterday 181 years ago) is Gettysburg. Though...set aside a whole weekend night for that one
Four hour movie...
Gettysburg?
It is bloody as they described
Ultimately changed the course of the conflict and showed the futility of bayonet charges
I mean, gatlings were made by that time
Yes, the battle itself
So the Confederate plan after two days of heavy fighting on the flanks was to break the Federal line in the center
Robert E. Lee, the Confederate supreme commander, thought one massive push would break the line and allow him to continue north, threatening DC and ending the concurrent Siege of Vicksberg along the Mississippi
The problem with this plan? The Federal center was across an open field with massed artillery and some units shuffled back to a supposed "quiet sector" thus being reinforced
12,500 Confederate soldiers were sent out after a two hour preliminary bombardment. The Federals held back on dedicated counter battery out of concern for an attack so they just took cover. The actual charge had to cover over a mile of open ground
Roughly 7,000 Confederate soldiers would be casualties in killed, injured, or prisoners
It effectively broke the Confederate army which was already stretching to the limit for manpower...and now they just lost thousands for no gain
Just like how trench warfare lost thousands of men for only a few yards of land?
Fifty years later at the Somme the British effectively did the same damn thing...60,000 dead for almost no gains
More or less. The US Civil War saw heavy use of trench warfare during its final months
Damn
Modern factories, industrialized weapons, railways, the telegram, advances in medicine...the only thing that didn't modernize was the battlefield tactics
Everyone was fighting like it was the Napoleonic Wars fifty years earlier. Except the rifles/muskets were longer ranged, more accurate, faster to reload, and had better ammo
Gonna make some of the gunfighting in my oneshot, after the fifth chapter tho
Since you mentioned Gatlings and let's throw the Maxim MG in there also, most official armies slept on those initially
They saw the guns as expensive, cumbersome, finicky things that were untested and unsuitable for warfare. The colonial holdings got a hold of them instead and quickly found out just how effective these guns were
Oh boy, Maxim mg
Especially in Africa, right?
Yeah
The officers before WWI were bonkers... Treated war as a game and a "gentlemanly" affair
It is just a game
Meanwhile the soldiers:
Another old movie that goes to show how stupid this mindset is is the movie "Oh! What a lovely war" from 1969
Listing some old movies
The British and French chiefs of staff are playing around in England on Brighton's West Pier like it's a waterside carnival, complete with sunlight and cheery attitude. Meanwhile in the trenches it's the bloody Western Front in action
The trench warfare was brutal
Living in muddy grounds while laying down in the trenches just to get cover from sniper attacks
And heavy, heavy artillery bombardments
The funny thing about these old movies is that while lacking the special effects of today they feel...authentic???
Yea
IDK, but they seem to have a lot more put into them because of their limitations
How about this one? All Quiet on the Western Front
There's thr movie that came out two years ago
Heard of it but didn't watch it yet
The 1930 version was more faithful to the book and showed just how disconnected the civilians were from the actual battles
Old movies do hit hard
In the book and the 1930 version, Paul goes home on leave to visit his home. Everyone is smiling and treating him as if he's a hero. His father asks if he has fought in melee. His school teacher is giving the same speech from three years ago to ANOTHER group of dumb boys eager to serve the Kaiser. The gentleman believe the home front is worse than the trenches and debate where the Allies will break.
The ONLY person he doesn't have an issue with is his mother who is concerned for him, gives him some food, and some clean clothes
The modern movie does show how brutal the fighting is but...lacks that disconnect
Ptsd was real but everyone ignored it as they saw it as cowardice
Unfortunately...
I show this a lot with Charlie actually who has probably a little too much tact
It's obvious he's curious about what happened just before he was born. Who was Hannibal really? What did his parents do? What happened? He's just afraid of asking due to being insensitive and he doesn't want to make his parents uncomfortable
Ryan has mixed memories. Some absurd stories and met good people but he was right in the thick of it
And Sev is working hard to be a parent and not a purposed organism on assignment
I mean, mentioning Hannibal would do something uncomfortable towards them
As the saying goes, the family is a mess
A non perfect, messy yet normal family
Also, progress
Thanks to coffee [praise thy caffeine] looked how it reached
Looking forward to it
Me too
Coffee did the work
Praise Dadvulet and his coffee
Hopefully, I'll bang out the first draft this weekend and get the AV scene going
Then spend some time editing
And soon after the 5th, gonna do some oneshots
And hopefully I will make that Sliver of Straw drawing on time
Praise be coffee Fred
Indeed
If you think hard enough everything can become coffee
We reached to the state that coffee is the main source of making a cult
And I know a thing or two of making a cult since I played Cult of the Lamb
...

And now time to list the oneshot
Wanna some context for the upcoming oneshot, cap?
I'm like torn between the fact Rimworld Anomaly is a thing and the Cult of Sirius from X-COM Apocalypse right now

The former you technically have to be a cult to deal with a mad Archotech, the latter you raid and burn their carpets with incendiary shells for money and to prevent them raiding you...
Putting on some indoctrination
Remind me how exactly this happened???
Do I need to start preparing tax forms for a coffee cult or something????
Do not put the tax indoctrination for the cult, it would make the followers unfaithful
Well I might too much with coffee
Along with Fred, of course
Dadvulet
Yeah that seems about right where this started
Coffee made us to think better
And despite writing the current fic, already thought the plan for the oneshot
What? Apex drinking coffee?
I haven't drank a single cup of coffee but just thinking about drinking a cup of one makes me think better
That's how powerful it is
It won't be rw tho
[Praise be coffee]
Anyways I kinda felt bad for torturing enot yesterday so I decided to practice writing a bit more and give him a good day
Paincat real lore, getting hurt
Putting aside me using him for AV, I do have to just wonder if he is the "Anti-Saint"
Stuck in first karma (real)
Like...we know Inv is something eldritch 90% of the time, focused on bedroom activity, scattered yet hyper focused, and just downright bizarre
And downbad for every scug
Hence "bedroom activity"
I see Arti more of Anti-Saint then Enot
My official version, the projection and avatar of an Iterator that breaks the fabric of spacetime and laughs at something as childishly silly as "quantum physics"
Everyone else with Inv...
Do I even have to go there?
Toodles
Bye
As stated before, first Saints chapter will have a rough draft done this weekend. Also...ethical dilemma!!!! Yippee
I mean, building a body for the sole purpose of taking it to live a new life. Who's to say that body couldn't be a person before Sliver takes it?
I mean I could live a new life in a different body
Well that's the plan
But is it right to deny said body the chance of being its own person???
Most situations in Rain World, ignored because that's how the game goes. When you stop and think about it with real world ethics and philosophies...
got me there cap
(Oh by the way Anton? My most recent colony in Rimworld is absolutely brutal. I thought it was random I kept getting big animals self tame. Then I realize it's Randy screwing with me so they eat all my food before it can grow. He then gets the colony kid killed AND has toxic fallout raining chemicals on me in the middle of an arid landscape where my power can't keep up because I decided to do a village layout as opposed to a megastructure...)
(In short I'm nearly starving, suffering from heatstroke around the clock, it's raining chlorine, the electricity is unable to keep up, and the storyteller is laughing his ass off)
Average Rimworld experience
I think I'll try a rainforest village next time if I want a village build. Valid excuse for the Rain World mod
Now what about that Monster Hunter one??? Meh, later
...Think Hunter would get along well with the Palicos in MH?

Maybe, Hunter is Hunter
Well that would be a oneshot challenge for the main chat...
Oneshot soon but not rw
Truthfully, Rain World Rot would be nothing to a MH hunter, especially a ranged one
Heavy ordinance?
Sticky concussive explosives, cluster munitions, piercing rounds, explosive razor rounds, incendiary and cryogenic rounds, shotgun shells both long and close range...
Melee would have a tougher time but they slice into hides that can swim in lava so they would hack a DLL apart...
Rain World is Australia? The Monster Hunter is Fallout Australia
Yes
Slugcat sees red lizard and runs for the hills. Monster hunter sees either an annoying pest or a worthy challenge for a new hat
You want me to hunt down an endangered species for drip? Sure
Hey Fred, I know you're a bit burnout from the art but I do plan to get the first chapter of Saints done by next week. Should I wait for ya or post regardless?
I will probably have the art done by next week considering I just started today and already almost finished drawing Sliver
Okay
How goes your forrays into writing?
Trust me, first time is almost always meh (I say almost because you sometimes get that one person who's just a natural)
I have a giant headache today so instead I made a plan for the chapter
Fair
I was lucky enough to draw Sliver in the morning before I realized the headache was even there
Mostly just wondering and trying to be encouraging
Well thanks for the encouragement
Yay
I'll probably write I few more chapters and then see whether it's good enough to post on Ao3
After rewriting the first few chapters of course
Also, while down the line I do plan for an extra limbed Slugcat to make an appearance because why not. If you want to tackle that, I'll give the heads up and the Steam picture that gave me the idea
Though multiple arms does remind me of an X-Men comic I read a while back: How much deodorant do you go through?
That's sounds pretty fun to draw
But Sliver of Saints drawings first
Everything else later
Sure
That looks cool
Obviously I'll take my own liberties with the specific designs
As for why an entire region is comprised of these guys...the Iterators up there were a bit loopy???
I doubt you would steal some else's OC
Not intentionally and if I get called out I would apologize like there's no tomorrow
I am sure you would anyways I should probably go to sleep a bit earlier so that I wouldn't have a giant headache tomorrow
Allr right. Have a good night
So before I do anything with the reveal of AV, thoughts here?
Is AV really like prankster then transition into full serious?
Yeah
I started the conversation last night (my time) but haven't gone too deep into it
I figured share the info I have first
All of that, cap?
A tad after
Didn't share the serious talk yet because it's not done yet and wanted to get impressions on what was
I'm not really good at criticizing stuff
I feel like my "something is coming" was good but then it just strayed...
Broke the rule of writing: show don't tell
And did I tell...
I mean, that's a lot of work
About an hour give or take
There's some good stuff, but like the others said I need to cut the exposition likely
Yea
Might need to reread one of my earlier things... I did cover an all seeing character with great influence before
Here's a little update on the drawing for you guys.
Sliver is fully finished now Dialect too
Dialect may be redrawn slightly tho
Nice
And also, Fred, got some ideas for ocs of yours?
Not yet but maybe I will start thinking about making one once I finish the drawing
My guess would be Chea because I don't draw scavs often though Nimol's armor can definitely be a headache
Just was wondering
This might be a "WHY DIDN'T YOU SAY THAT BEFORE?!" thing, but the arms can retract into a bionic backpack for Chea. Though, I can definitely see them being out a lot since she assists in maintaining Sliver
I already guessed that the arms would be retractable but I'll still draw them anyway
Okay
Also side dumb thing about this project, it legitimately reignited my passion for history and the Total War games
I always liked history (gee, I wonder why I chose my name???), but I'm finding myself actually curious about locations and time periods I haven't really considered before
What about industrialization or the discovery ages?
I'm more familiar with those time periods
And it's obvious I'm more familiar with Western history such as Rome, Greece, some of the Crusades, and onwards
Eastern?
Not so much...which is a shame
Despite I live in SEA, I barely study about the history of it
Let me guess, the Western influence has taken more focus?
Yes
Of course...
Only little history of my nation's history tho
Mostly the revolution and the ww2 pacific theater
Look, I'll admit Western history is fascinating. The Crusades leading up the the Renaissance, the Colonial period, Rome's rise and fall giving way to the Ottomons, the Industrial Revolution, the World Wars (speaking of, can we please have more coverage of WW1 besides Europe and Gallipoli? What about Africa? And what the bleep was Japan doing?! Yeah, they were involved so what were they doing?!)
I think Japan was a big fan of imperialism
That they decided to ignore the league of nations and do their own thing
But then you get the Japanese Warring States period, China's Three Kingdoms, the religious turmoil in India with the rise of Buddhism
In the SEA, mostly the interesting things are Vietnam's holding off Mongol and Chinese Invasions and the colonization part
I know more about the Latin and South American empires from pre-colonial era's than Africa and Africa had its own empires and nation states before Europe showed up
(Not much but my point still stands)
Indeed so
But I find it funny that the Americans developed their pistol into something better after one specific war
The 1911 Colt 45?
yes
Weighs like a brick, kicks like a horse, and is a damn fine firearm
But seriously, some beliefs are really strong that even a pistol shot won't hurt them
I just found that out why they changed their revolver into a semi-automatic pistol
Faster to shoot and reload. Also more powerful than the 38 revolvers during the Spanish American War
(Speaking of rather obscure wars... I honestly don't know that much about the American-Mexican War. I know more about 1812 which really was a minor sideshow in the Napoleonic Wars)
Grand overall point of this is that there is so much that is just casually brushed aside which is a shame
Revolution is a big thing of history here
Obviously, you can't cover every single time period and place. But there is a lot that shouldn't be brushed aside either
I mean, there's actually an important battle that literally decided the fate of Eurasia and it's never talked about
A specific historian in a specific period
True, but again even a broad level history class can do more
I mean, after the Fall of Carthage Africa just disappears from history until the Colonial Era and then only is brought up again due to the Scramble for Africa in the latter 19th century
(Also...the African Theatre of WWII kinda is overlooked a lot in mainstream WWII stuff also... Guys, why do we keep ignoring an entire continent???)
The African theater only focused the ones near Europe

I'd say my first chapter is nearly done, but won't be until later on. Womp... Oh well, more time for Fred to draw stuff
That being said, I think it could either go faster or slower for future chapters because it'll be less Iterator focused...
Anton, I will need assistance in making this civilization believable up close and personal (as in, walking down the streets)
Yay for me
Alrighty, time for the deep research
Gotta use the college brain for this
Cap, if I ask, is it the Khmer empire we talking about?
Was thinking the one I was going to write. It'll be based on the Khmer though
Alrighty, deep research it is. Sorry wiki
you're too predictable for sources
And also I've done the 5th chapter
I noticed and left a comment
Cap, if I gotta ask, care to hear of my upcoming oneshot?
Sure
This may not be rain world but remember that I mentioned about watching Zulus?
Well, native and colonial conflict.
A dashing young officer (from Innerus which I talked before) tasting his first battlefield along with his thousand troops, freshly trained and recruited. Meeting with his senior in the southern part of Kinneria (a beastfolk empire) and wage his first battle. Upon underestimating the tribal warriors, he lost most of his men and retreated back to their camp. Traumatized, new batch of soldiers coming through, and so the war continues.
It's my (mostly referenced and created universe which somehow it supposed to be Minecraft but that was years ago) universe thingy
Original idea, got it
I kinda find total war warhammer 2 the most inspired idea
After the 5th chapter, I must write it (despite there are plans for my future writing)
And I could conduct research of the Khmer empire
Sure
I could do multi tasking for a bit so I can't get too relax
Again, hopefully rough draft of the first chapter will be done this week (and another chapter of Harmonic Symphony speaking on non-RW stuff)
Right now I need to figure out how to have AV do his best Morgan Freeman impression...
So uh have you ever seen Bruce Almighty?
Basically, news anchor with the worst luck has issues with God
God (Morgan Freeman) shows up and loans him power to see if he could really do a better job at the world
Which does result in them just going places briefly
Like from Bufalo New York to suddenly Mt. Everest
I see, gonna watch the movie soon
Puts in the lists of movies
Basically, Morgan Freeman just teleports people to places to hold a conversation
As for how the hell that is relevant, AV is taking Sliver on a walk through the markets of Shi Chara to get her to calm down and to start an actual conversation with her
Sliver hasn't uploaded herself into the body yet, is still an Iterator, and really it's AV taking them on a projected trip
Is it gonna be a public market?
An "out of body experience" mixed with an Overseer image so to speak.
The citizens have no clue this is happening and truth be told, there really isn't anything there at all
So they don't see Sliver and Abyssal taking a stroll in the market place?
Nope, they're walking through people as if they were ghosts
Ooooh
The citizens are going about their day, they don't see Abyss or Sliver. Abyss is just giving a 3D tour via Google Maps in real time to Sliver
But they do strolled down the streets, not some virtualization of the place
The actual streets
Plan is AV is trying to get Sliver to loosen up and to make her really understand the choice she is about to make
Mostly because no one has done it before and living as a normal person is not the same as being an Iterator, something he understands entirely and doesn't have a damn clue about himself
He's as detached from the Rainlands as possible because he IS the Rainlands. Sliver has a chance to actually live but she's going to lose everything that made her an Iterator
The gal gonna be a sluggy soon
And her descendant would be playing a piano
We know that yes. She's trying to take the final leap
Abyss isn't really judging, just looking in on this and offering advice and support.
Whether or not she really wants to take that leap or not is not up to him, just her. He just wants to see what happens and make sure she makes the right choice for herself because this is the first time anything like this has happened
Can't wait for that, cap
Also...Abyss learned of this little project of hers within a month of her starting it and it took six to have everything ready for her to upload herself
No one else in the group knows about it, just that it's a new purposed organism
So this is a bit silly...
I decided to make a fictional civilization off of a Southeast Asian empire that is relatively obscure in mainstream history but I keep thinking Japan...
Maybe I should play something besides Shogun 2 Total War
So new colony in Rimworld. Can't get any Hunters or Survivors but I've gotten two Monks...
Maybe this is how we get new ideas... Play Rimworld and aim to tame Slugcats and pray the nearby lizards leave me alone
Minor update with the chapter. I think I'll have a first draft done in two days. Fred, care for one more potential picture to draw?
Sure your ideas are always fun to draw when they are not complicated of course
One of two options, one is MUCH simpler than the other
1: AV as Inv in Sliver's puppet chamber. Despite Sliver floating above and literally looking down at him, it's clear he hold the power and she's paralyzed in fear
2: They are taking a stoll in the city market (AV as Inv and Sliver as Saint) with Sliver in shock at everything around her while AV leads the way
Hmm interesting while the first idea is something I doubt I will be able to draw properly any time soon the second one is pretty good and doable
Also in both cases, "Inv" may have his signature looks but at worst is smug and not disturbingly creepy
Somehow I would have though 1 is less difficult than 2...
For the first one you need to have a good understanding of body language to properly draw who actually holds the power in that situation something that I don't have
The second one doesn't have that which is why it's easier
Well...it is going to be a marketplace square. Different a lot of background characters, different clothes (or barely any at all) to denominate social status, guardsmen, kids running around, market stalls, stuff like that
I mean it's all about how you draw and position the background characters
Hmmm
Well if this helps: Laborer caste would barely have clothes or the absolute bare minimum, artisans and merchants are clothed but relatively simple, there is a priest who would be lavish, and guards would be guards
Given the tech and social structure, I guess Renaissance Era armor mixed with Southeast Asian styles would work (unless Anton has objections to that)
I will see what I can draw with concept when I will have some free time
Okay
Gonna give you guys an update on the progress of the drawing before I go to sleep. I am almost finished with Chea after that the only thing that will be left is adding details also I'll probably won't color it since I don't have a Khaki colored pencil
I just realized I haven't really described the body Sliver will inhabit. If anything, it's just "the body" right now...
I know two (three?) weeks ago I spitballed an idea but should I give an actual breakdown or wait until I edit the chapter?
I can wait until you start editing the chapter
Okay
Here's the first glimpse of my oneshot i've been working on this is not rw
“Land ho!” One of the sailors at the crow’s nest shouted from above to inform their fellow crewmates. They were prepared to disembark to the shores. Soldiers lining up on the deck as they were counting. Sailors began to do their work for the landing. The morale of the men were high as they were ready to invade against their assailant.
“Christon?”
“Sir.”
“221 David?”
“Sir.”
The quartermaster began to check on the names of their men on his notebook to be accounted for.
A young officer walked towards the quartermaster, feeling proud as he saw the shores from afar getting closer and closer. “Good day, Officer Ivarik.”
“Good day, to you too. Officer Liamson.” He greeted back as he kept on counting the men on the deck.
“Fine day to slay some beast after two weeks of voyaging, eh?”
“To destroy the filthy mutts once and for all?” He turned back again to the soldiers. “351 Peter.” One of the soldiers responded back.
“You know it. I can't believe that these beasts decided to wage war again after twenty years.” He laughed as he pulled out his sabre, inspecting it with admiration. “What do you think will happen next?”
“They'll get destroyed like before.” He replied. “Johan?” Another response.
“Soon, I’ll show off my father, the head of the wolfmen. To be displayed on the wall of our family manor, to show off how we slaughter them like the animals they are.” He spoke boastfully as he already imagined the outcome. Flag raised high behind him, the sound of cheering and victory of his first battle, the enemy turned tail and ran away.
“Soon, Officer Liamson.” He nodded as he kept checking his notebook. “418 George?”
Seems good to me
Gonna borrow some references from Zulus
And it will be a long day for the 6th chapter tho
How's yours cap?
Again, going a tad slow but I'm getting there
Keep thinking Shogun 2 Total War for a mix of early gunpowder and classical melee fighting
Which shogun 2?
Fall or rise of the samurai?
Have Fall and base game
I see
Despite not knowing the gameplay, I only watched some clips for the sake of battles and such
And even the units strength and specialties
Base is definitely more "classical medieval" while Fall is the sudden shift of overwhelming industrialization
Gonna watch the levies shooting down some professional warriors
Katanas and spears have their place, but it's clear that a proper army of muskets and artillery with overwhelming fire will mow them down
The gatling gun would do the trick
Outside of sheer numbers and quality troops that won't break, muskets will typically win
Though, a combo is advised since counter melee is advisable
What about the shogitai?
Advise the same really but if you really want to stick to tradition, fight smart
Gonna use those good gunpowder weps
Archers actually outrange most muskets, all melee troops are superior in close quarters, and sheer volume of close quarters can overwhelm firing lines
The only drawback is that you will lack proper artillery
I mean, artillery are only use by siege, right?
And as I learned heavily, Fall of the Samarai is probably the best case of a Total War game where navies matter
Field guns can eat infantry and cavalry across the map
Ever see Empire or Napoleon?
Not really, only little
Standard cannon balls in those games can soften targets and shred cav, cannister turns the cannons into shotguns, howitzer can get explosives and quicklime (AKA chemical shells)
Rockets...actually work better in naval battles
Though I never experimented in massed rocket teams so IDK about those
So late in the tech tree I don't bother usually
Grapeshot
Though in Fall of the Samarai, wooden cannons are crap, Parrot Guns have explosives by default (which a single battery can kill HUNDREDS from half across thr map), and naval bombardment can shred forts
And lord help you if you don't control your coasts like I did
I had over 10 provinces and was barely making 500 gold per turn because everything was shelled to hell and back by roaming navies
Well, bad luck, I'm bad at managing stuff
Hides my colony from the eyes of the people
My income was so bad because it kept getting blown up every time I rebuilt it
Rome 2 may have allowed amphibious invasions, but Fall of the Samarai made the naval warfare actually relevant
Harassing on your economy?
Farms, mines, ports, everything was free game because I didn't build a navy early game
Which was ironic because I was the naval specialist faction
Womp
As for how any of that matters for Saints, again the mix of swords and spears with the advent of matchlocks
The coming of the gunpowder weapons is imminent
But bad thing I can't research properly without wifi
Well in the streets of Shi Chara, matchlocks are reserved for either the elite guards or the very wealthy who can hire and outfit personal retainers of such quality
As for why no pulse rifles in the hands of purposed organisms it would be beyond overkill, difficult to mass produce, and better reserved for assignments that need such firepower
Some thugs: showing off their mad knife skills
A retainer: shoots them off with their pistol and walked away.
(Reference?)
Basically
Though the purposed organisms and carefully built secret armies (such as the Order of Lady Sliver for example) would have emergency caches of industrial grade weapons (revolvers and bolt actions)
Interesting, they are making such weapons much advance than crappy matchlocks
Easier to make, easier to explain to the general public, easier for raised armies to grasp, and easier to maintain
If the Iterators need to call upon the locals for an emergency army draft, a bolt action is simple to mass produce, can be sturdy to survive the elements, and easier to train with
But the matchlocks are still intact?
That or something like the Sharps Carbine (single shot falling block carbine)
Matchlocks at the time would be the best weapons outside of "divine influence"
Though, still temperamental given their nature and the weather
So crossbows, archers, and javelins would still play a roll
Javelins are still intact by that time period
Never thought I would see that
Like Spanish conquesitadors
(Actually now that I think about it, yeah a group like the Order would have tailor built single shot rifles like from the American Civil War period but only purposed organisms would get the really good stuff at least until average tech catches up)
Also...local tribes would still be doing their own thing
Would local tribes raid for a weapon that spits fire?
Some may trade for muskets, others outright steal them, but many would still throw a spear
Would depend on which sector also...
I see
The Mountain Lake has to protect its borders from warlike tribes
The Penninsula is less tame and thus the power of a purposed organism is far more pronounced, respected, and feared. Tribes are still going to clash but are more willing to respect powerful and charismatic individuals who can form a confederation
Can't wait for it, cap
Then when proper colonies are set up, either civilizations are forced to retreat deeper into the Rainlands and Facility Grounds or be assimilated while the tribes confederate to either resist or provide a buffer
Spain conquered the America's by conquering the civilizations there. France and Britian didn't have that luxury so they had to build up the old fashioned way
With neighbors...who had different opinions on who the new folks on the block were
Current idea is that the Mountain Lake is a powerhouse for a time, but a bit isolated and has issues on its borders with aggressive tribes who want the wealth. The Penninsula is mostly wilderness but has a network of alliances going on. By the time colonies pop up, the Mountain Lake is probably behind the tech curve as a civilization and far from the coast while the Peninsula navigates thr politics of slow moving expansion
The colonies down there are close to the coast and more interested in working with the tribes rather than fighting
Besides, why fight against the tribes alongside a rainforest/jungle filled with disease and predators? Slow and steady works better in that regard and being friends benefits all while allowing land transfers to happen smoothly
And mostly not harassing the newcomers
Yup
And tends of distrust mostly happens
But gotta make the sandugo pact with the natives
The Estuary meanwhile...Berman invaders who steal a sizable chunk of the civilization and have a nasty attitude, forcing them to modernize fast and wage constant border bush wars
Ah yes, conquering
As for the River Valley...civilized and actually progressing due to being a direct neighbor to a certain Mechlord Vampire
(Hey, he needs homogen and doesn't want to "eat" his own citizens so having neighboring Iterators who make the stuff artificially and guard his southern border as friends works great. Just send some goodies of his own to keep the alliance up)
Diplomacy
Rainlands are complicated
Even without the Iterators, there is trade, tribal and civilized politics, diplomacy, trade, and inteigue
Time to que the Good Morning song
Anyway, gonna sleep cap
Good morning
I mean, 12:29 am could be still consider as midnight but then again it's am so let's just indeed stick with morning
Good morning to all
I know Anton is asleep now but I think I just thought up the most "Rain World" gun possible and explain why Slugcats/Scavengers would have a "pulse rifle." So...encase the frame with shed centipede scales, power block would be some kind of organic battery built to withstand abuse and the elements, and the mechanism that shoots would be a mechanical version of the Miros Vulture laser
The gun isn't really "alive." More like it pulls a Monster Hunter and the only "living thing" is the battery/ammunition pack
Thoughts?
That or I go all in and make a biopunk rifle that is essentially the Miros Vulture laser...
Do the they shoot bullets or the same how the Miro Vulture shoots?
Miros Vulture
Figured something high tech but not the Rimworld pulse weapons
(Leave those to Alejandro)
Living batteries, just like that one wep in half life 2?
Maybe??? Haven't played Half Life games...
Idk what it calls but it shoots homing bugs at the enemy
Well, figured a bio-laser rifle is pretty Rain World
So those would be the best weapons the purposed organisms can field if things go bad
High class weaponry
So uh...do I go the Monster Hunter route with metal and organic bits or a biopunk gun with metal reinforcements?
Either way, a Miros Vulture laser as small arms
Idk what monster route looked like but kinda okay with biopunk
Big hammer
Switch axe is something...
How about a hammer where the head is a revolver cyclinder...that shoots rounds when you hit things with it
Not a gun, a hammer
Interesting
There's also a rocket powered dragon
Fully biological and naturally evolved
Valstrax is awesome
I may not know everything in monster hunter but I like the one who turned into a big puff
There's a few that do that
That bat
Speaking of the "character is approaching rapidly" joke in the main chat, I have an idea for Ruffles with that
Make the guy on the box art Ruffles instead during his army days
Then you'd have a reason to RUN
Rivulet with the bayonet charge and oh! He struck someone with it
Alongside Artifcer as well
