Shitty protagonist, weak hook, an insufferable and outright manic love interest.
It is about an author who wrote about his current life (ech) and how he met Agnes. The drama starts when he writes faster than they live and Agnes starts to live after the lines he wrote for their future.
The crescendo was when the author wrote an ending to their story. He had written two versions, one dramatic and in Agnes wish a happy ending version. Of course he changed to the dramatic in the editing step and Agnes followed his writing desire and acted upon the book's ending, pressing her face in the snow and dying because he wanted a drama ending.
...
And the cherry on top was that it was written in retrospect, from the author who has moved on and is clearly not very traumatised by having killed Agnes with his book.

I hate myself for knowing that book so well despite never have finished reading it

To keep things short. The author wrote it in his last year of his life. You can read how the beginning of the book is very skillfully written with many threads opening, but as things goes on threads get left behind, the writing prowess declines and the overall mood gets darker and darker (the author had dementia). Eventually, after the 2/3 of the book the author died irl and his assistant finished the book in his honor based on the notes he left.

So far i've enjoyed very few school books. If I enjoyed it then it likely means it was either short/kinda interesting/written in the current century. We have to read a lot of shit books that are prolly older than 100 years if I am to be generous, are written in the older version of Polish so it requires interpreting and are usually just not interesting at all

There's that phenomenal called Terminal Lucidity that some people with dementia would suddenly regain all of their loss of functions, including recaliing the details of the supposedly lost memories

nobody really knows how that work, but it does suggest while maybe memories might seem lost(can't recall/remember) but because of how the brain form them, the brain structure itself 'remembers'. it just need something to reactivate it.
