I tried to launch the game and the window pops up, but there is only a black screen (no sound either). I have tried validating the install but it has not helped.

Solution to downpatch (In case the mods you want have yet to be updated):
DOWNPATCHING CAN BE WEIRD, MAKE SURE TO BACKUP SAVE DATA FIRST

If your save files are not working/showing up properly, they can be recovered through the new in-game backup system.

if you want to be safe, make sure you copy UserData into a separate location (even the desktop would work), that way nothing is lost

to back up your save, type %appdata% in the windows search bar, navigate to "LocalLow", and copy the "Videocult" folder somewhere safe.
to uninstall fully:
right click the game in steam, hover over "manage", select "browse local files", and delete the rain world folder.

@deep dome the 1.9.07b tokencache format is incompatible with the 1.9.14 version, so any user who has tokencache files will have the game break on initialization and perma blackscreen. a try-catch, or just deleting the files on update would avoid this issue

Right click Rain world on the library side bar and click Properties. Goes to the beta tab and in the beta participation menu you will have the option of "Legacy remix - 1.9.07b"

Okay, this is semi relevant to this message, so I'll reply to it -
Ever since the update, I am unable to open the game. It's not a black screen issue, it'll just flat out give me a unity error message and won't even open the game. Reverting it to the old pre-update beta fixed it and allowed the game to open and run without issue.

Boot up the game, go into options, there's a backups button

you can restore a save from before the update if you accidentally saved

do that, quit the game, downpatch and you save will be working in 07b
