#Eventual and predictive crashes upon saving a long cycle(s)

I am unsure if this is the place but...for the past few weeks I have been getting crashes upon crashes unending where the game crashes upon trying to save, sometimes when going in between rooms, and now I got a full force shut down of the game without it even freezing, this has been ongoing long enough for me to start predicting the chances of a crash between cycles.

After investigating, I realized that slowly but surely I was getting out of memory exceptions, checking the amount of memory I am consuming I came up to at least 40% of my mems where being used by RW alone.

the current mods that I have on that show up on the log are usually pearlcat, rotund world, sbc scroll and a few others. I had split screen on and turned it off to see if it could help, but nothing of the sort.

ive heard that there can be issues with sbcamerascroll crashing after saving, so try turning that off and see if it fixes things

#

unfortunately rainworld is also kind of just like this

I know. I have tried turning it off but it wasn't SBC Scroll. It just keeps happening.

@buoyant basin what were you doing at the time of the crash?

I will do so once I am able.

#

I removed mods such as the extra scugs and rotund world and still the game crashes after a couple of cycles or 1 huge long cycle

This sounds like textbook memory leak and it's unfortunately a known issue that no one has an answer for. The more mods you have, the more likely these crashes are to occur, but I think region mods play a bigger role in it than other mods.
People suspect SBcamera scroll is also be a leading cause, though I think it's impact is not as strong as many people say.
Events like the end of cycle or opening the remix menu are most likely to crash the game from a memory leak.

For almost all the Crashes, it's after a long cycle has passed (in other words at the tail end of a cycle) that the chances are 50% if it's the 1st cycle.

This also occurs after subsequent smaller cycles where the chances go from 10% to 35% then 50% as the cycles go on. Almost every adjustment I have done gave me little to no significant improvements.

#

The game freezes when it's trying to call the intermission just as the game saves, the reason being because it spikes in memory usage by an additional 10% use in memory

yep

Note even when playing the vanilla cats with only certain visual mods such as DMS and a couple of QoLs, this still applies

#

In other words

#

Every 3 to 4 cycles there will be a guaranteed crash

sand olive
#

Yea that is basically the state of modded rain world atm. If you want to avoid it you have to close and re-open the game every few cycles to reduce the chances of crashing

buoyant basin

At current I am unable to provide more info due to being at work. And I would have to also add that last night I bit the bullet and reinstalled the whole game. Which means I have to go in and load up all the mods I had currently and see if I'll get the same results.

What really kills me about this aside the fact that this is like the only game I wanna play that refuses to be played, is that I was able to fully interact with The Mast as Porlcat, for even a modicum of times. Every 3 cycles crashing without fail. Sometimes up 2 cycles even. But just the fact I was able to do so says a lot for me as to how far I have come, that a game like Baldur's Gate 3 runs super fine, but RW's italian spaghetti code is too much.

That's rough

#

I'll have to take recommendations on a curated mod list that allows for at least 10 cycles before crashing.

#

And I do...have 1 mod that may be showing up on my exception log that I will definitely refuse to turn off.

sand olive
#

Not sure if anyone here will be able to give recommendations, but I would suggest trying to cut down on region mods and see if that helps

buoyant basin
#

I only had Pearlcat's starting region and The Mast

#

I would assume Regions are heavy but figured they would be optimized to not be that stressful to deal with.

@buoyant basin in addition to what willowwisp said, also try disabling ambiscug

buoyant basin
#

But hold on. I ask, how does ambi scug cause problems? It is just a simple stat tweak that shouldn't affect data that much

#

This is just me trying to cope and justify why I shouldn't but I already know the answer

I have some thoughts about...spears

#

I recall that RW crashes almost instantly when utilizing SpearRifle due yo spear count going mad high

#

Is it possible that the game is overloading in memory due to spears?

dry pewter
#

yeah, I guess
