Radagon and Marika

Marika hails from the Land of Shadow, a far off continent mostly ruled over by the Hornsent, a race of people with a strong connection to the Crucible of Life who have horns growing all over their body.

Marika was from the Bonny Village, a group of people who lacked horns and were considered impure by the Hornsent. Because of this, the Hornsent ran cruel experiments on Marika's people, cutting them up and stuffing them into jars because they believed their saintly flesh could meld with others.

Marika, however, decided to get revenge. She stole the Strands of Divinity, the product of the experiments ran by the Hornsent, and ascended Enir-Ilim, a massive spiral city made from the mummified corpses of her people. At the top, she found the Gates of Divinity, raised the Strands, and ascended into a god.

Not much is known about Radagon's origins, but it seems implied that he comes from the same place as Marika. Radagon and Marika are technically the same person, or two beings inhabiting the same body or something. It's not very clear what caused this but my theory is that the Gate of Divinity dissolves the body of whoever enters, and Radagon acted as an anchor for Marika's soul to return to.

Anyways, after this, Marika moved to the Lands Between, and began building her own order. Her and Radagon had 4 children (do NOT ask me how that works I do not know, god stuff ig).

One of these children was named Messmer, but Marika saw a dark force within him, the Abyssal Serpent. The Abyssal Serpent is an obscure outer god that exists simply to feed upon souls. Marika, feeling great shame for this, placed a seal within Messmer's eye, preventing the Serpent from breaking loose. She then exiled Messmer to her homeland so he could wage a genocidal crusade against the Hornsent in Marika's name.

Anyways that's just her backstory and anything else would be the lore of the entire game so I'm stopping here, loredump COMPLETE

After Marika ascended to godhood and moved to the Lands Between, she started the Golden Order, a ruling class of her new kingdom centered around worship of the Erdtree.

The Golden Order was inherently flawed, due to Marika's own past trauma and constant war. The Omens, children blessed with horns by the Crucible at random, were to either have their horns excised, or, should they be born of royalty, they would be hidden in the sewers of the Royal Capital.

Marika would marry a man named Hoarah Loux, a savage warrior from a place called the Badlands. Hoarah Loux, wanting to appear as more of a Lord, placed a limiter on his bloodlust and put on a facade as Godfrey. This made him the first Elden Lord. He and Marika would have 2 children, Morgott and Mohg. However, they were both born Omens, and thus shut away into the sewers.

During Godfrey's time as Hoarah Loux, Radagon was also somehow waging his own war (despite, again, him and Marika being the same person), Marika sent him to fight against the Carians, a group of magic scholars in the east who opposed the Golden Order. However, when Radagon realized his mistakes in war, he absolved his sins and married Renalla, Queen of the Carians. They had 3 children: Radahn, Conquerer of the Stars, Rykard, Lord of the Manor, and Lunar Witch Ranni, an empyrean chosen by a vassal of the Greater Will to eventually become a god.

Eventually, Marika would send Godfrey to war against the Fire Giants, who worshipped a Fell God who's flame could burn the Erdtree itself. Eventually, Godfrey nearly won this war, but Marika realized that the Giants could never be truly beaten as their Fell God would live forever within them.

So instead, she cursed the last of their kind to forever tend to the feeble flame, never to rest.

After the war, Marika began to doubt her own Order's soundness, and started to conspire against herself. She met with Ranni, who had aspirations of defying fate itself and avoiding godhood.

First, after the war against the Giants, Marika sent Godfrey along with thousands of warriors to be stripped of their grace and banished from the Lands Between, sending them to fight war in the Badlands.

After Marika banished Godfrey, Radagon abandoned Renalla to marry Marika (yes I know Radagon and Marika are the same person I don't get it either). The amount of children they had is somewhat unclear, but it's probably 4-5. There was Messmer, who I covered in previous loredump, Miquella, and Empyrean with the power to charm others, Malenia, another Empyrean who was afflicted with a terrible rot disease, and Melina, who was born bodiless, forced to wander as a spirit.

Together, Marika and Ranni designed the Night of Black Knives, an assassination plot against her own son, Godwyn. Ranni sent a group of assassins called the black knives to steal Death itself from it's guardian, Maliketh. Then, under blackest night, they carved half of the Rune of Death into Godwyn's flesh, killing his soul but, unbeknownst to everyone, his body lived on, a blight now festering within it. Using the other half the the Rune of Death, Ranni killed her Empyrean flesh, allowing her to break out of one of the chains bounding her to fate.

With Godwyn dead and the kingdom in panic, Marika began the next part of her plan. She shattered the Elden Ring, a vassal of the Greater Will which kept order in the Lands Between. For this, the Greater Will crucified Marika within the Erdtree.

After Marika disappeared, the lands were plunged into a war for the shards of the Elden Ring, a war from which no lord arose. Each demigod managed to claim a shard. Morgott, however, despite being locked in the sewers and forgotten, protected the Royal Capital and took over as king.

Years after the war of the Shattering, the final part of Marika's plan began. The Tarnished Warriors who were sent to fight in the Badlands along with Godfrey were woken from their deaths and called back to the Lands Between. So that they could contest for the role of Elden Lord, and rebuild the Golden Order better than it was.
