but equipping armor still makes you take less damage, right?

That's because internally, while it does raise defense (which doesn't matter because nothing takes defense into account), all armor ALSO actually raises an overall damage reduction percentage, which you can't see and is behind the scenes

and the defense stat that an armor gives is usually a pretty good indicator of how much damage reduction it gives

There's also a single attack used by an enemy in some obscure talk dialogue branch I think which lowers a party member's defense which is funny for obvious reasons

For some reason, I forgot the exact trigger but it was either something to do with trying to use a bed that is not guaranteed or failing a coinflip on a non-guaranteed bed but if you do one of those then guaranteed beds will no longer be 'guaranteed'

For the release of A Wario Game (I forgot which one sorry) there was an official Wario website which had a Q&A where like 8-year-olds would ask Wario questions

did you know that Wario's name comes from the Japanese character (as in letter) "Wari" which means evil

it's an ungodly good pun I really wonder how everything lined up for that one

also Wario was made because the development team for the Gameboy mario games were just really fucking cool and HATED not being able to make original games with original characters so they sort've just wormed their way into taking the Mario franchise hostage by making the one-off villain of one mario game into the main character of a spinoff series into the main character of two spinoff series' and eventually into a mainstay character

Has its own nuclear reactor, provisions for weeks, and is not really great at being in an atmosphere even if it can do it. More akin to a patrol boat really

I get it, big ship is cool. Big doomsday weapon is cool (definitely going to have a few in my "main story" when I get there). But they should be an exception and imactful, not the standardized rule
