I actually didn't have to read 1984. I know the plot, of course, because who doesn't? But no first-hand experience. Fahrenheit 451 is okay, but a bit to up in itself with its literary references.

The giver was all about transferring memories and stuff, neat concept but not the best book I've ever read. Brave new world is a strange take of like the evils of bioengineering and cloning and all that.

I mean that F451 spends too much time showing off all the literary references Ray Bradbury knew (which are all incredibly dated by today, anyways) and not enough time exploring the weird darkness of the world it set out for us.

Best book I read in school was great gatsby, by the way.

Great Gatsby is the book that most effectively encapsulates what life was like in America in the 1920's. It's also a timeless tale of wealth, degeneracy, seeking an impossible dream, and the hollowness that comes after you get it.

I just got here, but I saw the opening discussions of this ‘senior writers’ role last night. My thoughts are this-

1. It might be useful. Important stuff tends to get lost in the wash of chat in stories sometimes.
2. It should not be related to an arbitrary number of chapters posted or word count or whatever. That fosters elitism and insularity and discourages people from getting involved in these chats, which are already pretty hard to come into from the outside.
3. It should not be an opt-in prompt that is given to every user who hops into the server, either. People would complain about getting pings.

…so that brings up the question, how to do it? The best solution I can come up with is to setup a post somewhere prominent (announcements maybe?) where people can react with like, ✅ or something to opt in to the stories-ping role (and then have a bot give it to them or some such, I’ve seen other servers do this). This would still be opt-in, but you’re much less likely to get people complaining because of that extra step worth of effort.

That solution is complex, though, maybe too complex.

From what I can tell, only about fifty people or less would even want the stories-ping role, which I think is a small enough count that we could also just say “it’s a role you can get by just asking a stories-helper” which would also be perfectly fine, assuming that we do get more helpers as has been said we will.

build entire character profiles on the important ones that way you know what memories they would have and what sort of effect their life and memory and personality would have on what they pass along

I recall some of the jokes in DP 1 & 2 making me laugh… and I think the plot of DP 1 was okay, for a joke superhero movie. I’m going to watch DP 3 when I get the chance.
