Actually not, and here is why:

1. Monk does deal less spear damage, yes, but they don't need it. The creatures will be way less aggressive, it is so bad to the point I struggled to get a green liz to kill me.
2. Monk has a lighter weight, which is good for squidcada flight
3. As survivor, you can get stuck in a tough region, and if you die too much, you won't be able to escape. Monk doesn't need to care about karma gates, just meet the requirement once and you are good.
4. Monk seems to be a very kind soul. In the beginning cutscene, you can see monk leap after their sibling survivor. They don't even know if they will survive or if they will see their brother again, but they still care enough to risk it.
5. Monk is cute, cute banana cat.
6. Monk needs less food to hibernate, which is great. Less time wasted getting food.
7. Monk can more easily befriend lizards and scavengers, which is really op.
8. Monk can't get super short cycles which have always been annoying.
9. The lighter weight makes you go zoom when using jetfish.
10. Do you hate shaded and other dark places? Monk got you covered. Iggy will just light up the areas around you, no need to stumble around in the dark.
