||i think its rlly interesting how the boughs turn out; each canto's bough acquisition reflects the growth of the sinner. canto 1 we don't get the bough nor development for gregor, hermann takes it and he is still in her grasp; canto 2 rodya refuses to change and gets a pity bough showing again no real growth, canto 3 sinclair nearly gets there but we suffer losses and just barely get the bough. canto 4 we get the first proper resolution and smooth bough acquisiton, similar in canto 5.

then, canto 6 has two boughs. one is burnt out, the other stolen; this reflects the way heathcliff (despite his growth and realisation he has people who support him and care for him, that he has worth outside of having to prove himself to cathy) is seeking catherine who he's lost, in a sort of pyrrhic victory. just as we have to get back that bough, he has to get back the one he loves||
