i also take this into every mirror dungeon because the discount matters in the long run

i find myself having way too much ego gifts and i cant upgrade them all before f11+

so many essential ones

there's a gift to make the upgrading cheaper

don't feel like you have to hold onto every gift you get either

by all means sell ones that'll pop up in any pack's shop

or the vial of liquid you get after already having something

that can be sold for cost too

there's a lot of cost ego gifts which are good to take

in every floor i always go towards whatever will get me more cost / ego gifts

some stages will give you both

it's important to consider too that although you're getting cost from every 80 stage if you have the choice to go to a "?" one you'll likely get a gift that's worth more than that anyways

He is the most complicated one of the bloodfiends imo, his whole deal is that you have to use his defense skill which gives him 3 stacks of "ailing heart" which basically makes him tankier, he also gains them passively im pretty sure, but yeah when you have 5, his skills consume bloodfeast to gain more bloodied hand, which gives him offense level, but the important part is that when you get to 20+ bloodied hand his skill 3 gets beefier, heals him for what is basically his whole HP, and adds another coin to it

He is made to not naturally consume bloodfeast so he can generate it for the other bloodfiends

By dealing bleed damage to himself

People look at him and believe hes the potential man of bleed but genuinely if you dont have him in your bloodfiend team getting bloodfeast up and running SUCKS

I think the reason you were struggling in the level was because heathcliff was incredibly under leveled and also had a bad ID, hopefully it becomes easier for you now

the charge ego gifts just give damage buffs a lot of the time and the tier 4 gives 20% damage up to the first deployed id at level 3

also skill final power up (although only if you have gloom skills on that identity)

offense level too, which is important

arguably less so than final power since three offense level only makes up for one final power

the rest of the gifts he probably grabs just dishes out charge amidst identities at the start of the turn

even if you aren't going through your charge barrier and are winning every clash, having the buff expire at the end of the turn gives you more charge count

What exactly are blood fiends?

i told myself i would yap about this concisely but i threw that plan out the window, prolly need to make this a two part message

|| bloodfiends are monsters of the city that look like humans because most of them were once, it's like an illness that gives them a thirst that can only be satiated by fresh blood and can allow them to be virtually immortal aging-wise if they are provided enough blood

they either come to be bloodfiends through distorting or turning into a kindred via a higher bloodfiend, there's also moments where it's said some entered a "certain mansion" then received blood and then became one

there's this phenomenon some refer to as the bloodstream, which is more or less their hierarchy and at the top is the "primogenitor" who made a first kindred in every district of the city (25 created in total)

from there the first kindreds created "families" made up of their "children" and "descendants" which are compelled to obey their first kindred elder respectively, usually families live quiet lives and even go out of their way to cull their kin to do so, but that doesn't stop some from seeping through the cracks such as the blood-red night in library of ruina who was a star of the city and a bloodfiend

a bloodfiend has the instinct to propagate for their family by creating further kindreds, however excluding the primogenitor a bloodfiend can only "embrace" (bite) another human to turn them into a fellow bloodfiend twice in their lifetime

kindreds inherit the powers of their "parent" to a degree, however higher generation bloodfiends can control the lower generation ones as there is an intense psychological barrier preventing lower bloodfiends from revolting against the higher generations, the generation a bloodfiend belongs to is denoted by their title, so a "first kindred" is a bloodfiend created by the primogenitor, and serve as the elder of their own family in a nest

the elders' direct "descendants" are "second kindreds", their descendants "third kindreds", and so on

any kindred can create their own descendants, however some need permission from their elder depending on the family / nest

a kindred is not actually bound to their generation for life because if their parent dies that bloodfiend may ascend the hierarchy of the family, if they didn't have kindreds already however they'd feel more pressure to have "children" of their own, and additionally any bloodfiend without a family feels psychologically responsible for the bloodthirst of all non-existent lower kindreds, it is only when a bloodfiend actually extends their family that this burden begins to wane as the thirst imprinted into their familial bloodline is shared amongst them all (this is the source of the bloodfiend instinct to propagate their family with children)

a bloodfiend only needs a small amount of blood to survive however the combined mental state of an entire family relies heavily on a steady source of freshly-drawn human blood, don't think of it as food for them because to a bloodfiend it is the embodiment of their emotions, their purpose of existence

bloodfiends who had distorted into one aren't actually bound to any family off the bat and they're usually killed off by fixers (some who specialise in culling specifically bloodfiends) because they don't understand how to control their powers

they don't crave animal or blood of their own kind the way they do for humans, and they typically feed on blood by biting into a living person, either condemning them to become their kindred or turning them into a bloodbag (a bloodbag is a mindless thrall which is effectively killed in the process of becoming one, it can be puppeteered by the bloodfiend that made it by having the blood in its veins manipulated and shares most of the abilities and bloodthirst of normal bloodfiends, but it doesn't retain any sapience or personal memory, they are driven primarily by orders from the bloodfiend who created them, or primal instincts of bloodlust) ||

|| typically when a bloodfiend goes without blood for long periods of time even the most mentally fortified and strong-willed ones become on edge or insane over time, they are even capable of committing filial impiety against their first kindred elder despite bloodfiend loyalty to their higher kindred being imprinted into their very being

for bloodfiends, bloodpacks can be fed to them however since it's not freshly flowing it can go stale and is unappealing, the same would go for other still-blooded alternatives and there is an example of a family that found said alternatives insufficient in meeting the high demand for blood they had

a kindred's power is dependent on their access to blood, their abilities are enhanced by consuming it and tanked when it's not consumed, and the higher up the bloodstream a bloodfiend is, the stronger they are

bloodfiends have a large degree of control over blood and can turn it into weapons, armour or even architecture through crystallization, they can also draw blood directly to themselves through their bloodbags and kindred, most bloodfiends seem to have to use physical gestures to wield their blood based powers and the higher up the bloodstream they are the more effortless their gestures can be while still possessing great strength behind their powers

an elder even created an amusement park entirely out of human blood, and a pair of running shoes with transformative abilities and a level of sentience said to have taken a very large amount of his blood to create with the inexplicable power to suppress the characteristics and powers of a bloodfiend, however it does not entirely suppress the desire for blood even still

across the different families of bloodfiends they specialise in different aspects of blood manipulation, for example obviously some specialised in aforementioned creation of weapons through crystallization and hardblood but there's others that can increase their size and sprout additional appendages by drinking large quantities of blood, and another is said to have the expertise of manipulating victims through their blood vessels ||

done babbling about bloodfiends, has a metric ton of spoilers from canto seven in it and the mention of a character from a reception in library of ruina

take a shot every time i say bloodfiend in those paragraphs and you'll perish

I beat Don Quixote's Canto

Some parts of the dungeon were kinda hard but her Canto was mostly smooth sailing. Spoilers for her Canto ---> ||I beat her father on my first try and that QTE event was awesome, the voice acting was also awesome, her version of Pass On is the most awesome one||

I was already going to give a 7/10 for the theme of the Canto alone but all that stuff near the end makes it my favorite Canto now
