y'know the challenge rule "no mods during setup" is so restrictive and arbitrary, whereas save files can achieve the same easy thing, or the same broken thing. i haven't seen any rules restricting save files in any way, and as far as i know the rule is literally only "no mods during setup". i don't get why a specific kind of getting past the setup is preferred, and it is preferred so arbitrarily.
i've heard people say "using mods during setup violates the spirit of the challenge". i think this may be valid, but we need to know how it violates the spirit, since for some challenges, the vast majority of the actual challenge part is the challenge, and there's no way mods could disrupt it. not to mention if mods violate the spirit, why do save files not?
i've also heard people say "just use common sense", but the thing is that that rule, it's not common sense. and if you really want it to be common sense, then specify that. in fact specify literally anything other than "no mods during setup"

dude using setup with mods is simply unfair because many don't. you are trying to continue this argument over and over when the best answer is the simpliest one, like.. just play the game normally it's not difficult to set up for many challanges.

For example in feast, to make the challange easier you could grab a spore puff or two from farm arrays and then go to a red centipede lineage. But if you don't want to waste time on that, you could just simply proceed to head straight to garbage wastes and kill the centipede with just some spears and rocks in a much more convienient location. Mods would skip that entire process. Save files, if im correct, are something that you have arleady played in and put your time into, so i think they are fine as long as you don't use mods to cheat stuff in them !

getting to a certain area with a specific creature can be difficult, but console players for example dont have a way to just skip it

i dont know excactly what mods you are talking about, but i dont think its NECESSARY for you to have your metal pipe sound effect when killing scavengers when playing

modded setup is more of just a general no-no because it relies on the presupposition that one is definitely being honest and faithful and not using any mods that would cause a cascading unintended effect to the challenge. vanilla save files (which if you get them from somewhere, it is likely someone the community trusts) at the very least ensure that someone hasn't gamed their save file or made setup easier by, say, using mods that allow unnaturally easy setup (easy mode tweak stuff), might affect difficulty even if the mod is removed (like emerald tweaks' passive reputation boosting), or just circumvent setup altogether (like beastmaster)

tl;dr it's more just a "modded setup introduces uncertainty and is against the spirit of the challenge in most instances considering console players don't have mods" sort of thing, and unlike the actual challenges themselves, there's no way to properly verify whether someone's modlist is acceptable during setup. vanilla save files (when gotten from an approved source) do not suffer this same issue because it can be generally assumed that there's no shenanigans going on in the background

you've submitted one challenge so far phnurginium. as someone who's had experience with at least half the challenge list, i can tell you that none of them (besides maybe pilgrimage and feast) require any super significant setup efforts past a cycle or two, and those that do usually tend to be because of lineage RNG or creature interaction unluckiness more than overall challenge.
