Problem is, current tech can do good enough fakery without RTX. So when you turn RTX on, the game will look more real, but not like 10x more real than it did before. The difference is marginal to most people, up to a point it's negligible and almost impossible to tell in some screenshots

it wasnt untill i had to delve into that shitstorm of configuration hell that i had to learn the specific differences

they are quite different but they are connected in a sense that at 80hz the threshold of latency before you see a delay is about 15ms

at about 144hz that gets down to about 5ms

however, you can have that same response rate at any framerate

i get down as low as 1.5ms at 90hz on a wireless vive for instance, even though it can go as high as i think 8ms or so before seeing a delay

but honestly in vr, even in the most precise of circumstances, the differences in response times in terms of how your brain is able to react to them is the biggest issue

VR is different though, because if the frame doesn't gfet delivered in time, you'll get a reprojection made inside the headset/on PC

ever wondered if these settings make a noticeable difference in graphical quality in games? i know i couldnt tell you from memory what it does differently, so i took some comparison pics

at a glance you prolly wont notice it, but subconsciously you most likely do. the whole reason i even decided to check this was becuase i felt like something wasnt right but couldnt put my finger on it, turns out my settings were changed when i updated my drivers

so i zoomed in on a few areas and saved them as seperate images to make the comparison super easy

look at the pieces of paper on the ground, it loses a whole layer of detail on everything detail oriented

the textures on the bluish metal panel that yellow cable runs through are missing an entire level of detail in the high performance mode. all those fine scratches and scuff marks are no longer visible

the metal I beam, the metal texture loses most of its definition in the normal map texture. it seems with high quality settings, it drastically effects the perceived resolution of the various layers of textures such as normal maps.

also those circular indentations that line the left wall, to the right of the exit sign, in the high performance setting they dont even look round anymore!
