It doesn't stop you from getting the achievement.

The co-op in Dying Light works through Steam, you gotta add them to you friend list (you can do it through Friend Codes) and then enter you save file (just press continue when entering the game, for example).

When you loaded the game, press esc to enter game menu and there you whether press on their name from your friend list (right side of the screen) or do the combination of shift + tab to open Steam in-game overlay to see your friends through Steam, there you click on the little arrow near the name, should be an option there called "invite to play Dying Light".
At the same time, if you are shown as "online" in Steam, this "friend" can join your game instead, by doing the same actions mentioned bellow but just click on the "join the game" or something like that.

They will be distracted with firecrackers. But also, because you're on Story Mode, look at your minimap.

It shows the cone of sight for the volatiles.

You can literally walk right behind one and it won't see you, if you stay out of the cone of sight.
