Priceless,take uv flares and use them for the boss battle as well but before,use your bow/crossbow and make sure there's no banshees or spitters

If there are,i recommend you to take them down first

It’s tricky at first. Definitely start on easy! Personally, I concentrated on upgrading the base weapon on the character I mainly use. Perk points, mainly left hand side to start with for health/damage reduction. Keep an eye out for doors that can be blocked as that’ll stop some waves. Molotovs are a great crowd control tactic should you need to heal etc.
