Aiden doesn't actually have "survivor sense" as the way it's viewed in game like a superpower.
It's a representation of his senses, he has heightened sense of sight, sound, etc... He doesn't see skeletons through walls, it's him sensing their sounds, and seeing them acutely in the dark... That kinda thing.

In DL1 it's tied to the lore.

When you're having a seizure, you get the Survivor Sense skeleton outline on EVERY infected, including biters around you. During the seizures, infected also don't see you as a threat and don't attack you / aggro on you. This detail highlights the fact that all infected instinctively recognise each other and that is represented via Survivor Sense.

I can't speak for DL2 tho since there's nothing really to go on from it

Exactly and yep. Tip for that is using the machete from the day in a harran run by glitching the pickup right as you cancel the mission

Makes the GRE anomaly a one to two shot and upping the difficulty gives more legend xp
