during invasions, damage on the night hunter is based on weapon type and the damage number is meaningless. 1-handed weapons are 3 hit kills, 2-handed weapons are 2-hit kills and light weapons that you hold with both hands like katanas are 3 hits but they do slightly more damage
your uv light and your flares drain the night hunter's energy and as long as its not full, he can't pounce you. You can locate the night hunter with survivor sense if he is close and you will see where his nests are too.
You need to destroy 5 nests and each of them have a few volatile broods in them.
To dodge a tackle, press space.

That's basically what you need to know to be able to play. More detailed knowledge comes with experience and the game has tips if you haven't turned them off

Quite honestly, BECAUSE you're early game i say you should turn it on. You'll get experience with playing, free materials when you die (GOOD flares and medkits) and whatever you do will give you xp points. Plus you'll see how the game is played with little to no materials, and how the game is played with a lot of materials
