@plain wave spikes have this minimum search range. If you are too close to the spikes, they wont search for you when you are dropkicked or tackled.
I think the fact that you jumped made you go from too close to into the range you need to be in to get spiked.

In their game, you were still low enough to be dropkicked due to the lag delay
Since there is no server and it's two clients with game engines making calculations, it probably only took your side to be eligible of being spiked. Things like this happen pretty often, actually.
One person's game sees it possible to do something, but the other player's doesn't, but it still happens because I guess it only takes one of the peers.

This is probably shit peer communication, but it's possible there were no options to actually make the game playable

In server pvp games the clients ask the server if they can do something and they get a response and it happens

I guess what DL does is it just calculates if something is possible depending on what is currently happening in the local game, I feel like it doesn't even ask the other peer if their gamestate allows something

Because if it did, the windows to do things would become nonexistent

You would probably be able to do animations of attacks, without them actually doing damage because they weren't eligible to be done in the other player's game

The fix to this would be to prevent the animation from starting before all is clear

But if that was the case, their windows would either be extremely small and impossible to locate, or you simply wouldnt get the attacks started because trying to get all conditions to match just wouldn't work in this shitty mess
