There are things that are justified and some that are not

However, the only reason we can't justify modding the ((((STEAM)))) game files, is because the process of making cheats is the exact same.

There is absolutely no harm in modifying the audio.scr and video.scr because Techland put them outside of the steam files, and into documents, on purpose. So that they could be modified without consequenses, because they are harmless.

THAT is why having custom visual FOV, is not a cheat.

because the file that you modify for visual fov is in an easy-to-access place on purpose.

When you modify the steam files, it triggers the game to disable all online gameplay and give you the "modified files" notification

documents/DyingLight modifications make none of this happen

On top of that, every computer has the ability to modify the .scr files by default, you just need to open them in any text pad. I use a .txt file.
For other code, you might want to have something that can actually open some of the files.

I believe video.scr, input configs etc. are separated from actual files to ensure they dont get deleted during uninstall/directory change. Just because they are there it doesnt’t mean everything in there is meant to be free real estate for modders, like pls or save files
