I'm fairly sure you can't just roll out of it too because the damage lingers

I enjoyed it more without using the ashes, I liked the extra challenge

I actually get what you mean, and Elden Ring definitely is drawing in new people who have never played FromSoftware games before. Because of this, things like tutorials and info to tell you what to do (which is the norm in games in general) being absent can really send people off
