When you first play best thing to do is the beginning quests, once you get further and further in I recommend doing public events and strikes to get gear until level 1270

Once there the best thing to do is weekly missions which will appear as a yellow bar on certain mission that will either give you a purple engram (forgot it’s name) or a pinnacle reward

Up until 1270 use what you find most fun but if you want to level as fast as possible use the item with the highest power level for fastest levelling
