To be fair, with regards to the main campaign of the base game. It's not terrible, but don't expect some insanely compelling writing. It's actually about the same quality, if not better than previous Monster Hunter games.

The best storytelling Monster Hunter does is actually in its environmental storytelling. It has INCREDIBLE worldbuilding with the locations, the flora, the monsters, they even move like real animals etc.
