It seems like there is a mutual agreement that other than the most basic things, proper rotation around the arena is the key to beating him, crowd control if you will. If done right you should be able to spend some time damaging the boss and then move out before any demons bump into you and from there you rotate back around which will then group up the demons and letting you come back around to damage him again, then repeat.

I also briefly spoke to Visceral about it. He recommended to play each mission once or twice in Nightmare, then do the same mission in Ultra Nightmare, stop, and do the next one in Nightmare before you continue in Ultra Nightmare and so on.

Haven't started it yet. Still practising. I think I have gotten the hang of the drop-down encounter in Cultist Base relatively well. Drop drown, kill the Fodders, from one side to the other kill the Soldiers with the plasma rifle, take down the Whiplash with lock on burst, focus the Arachnotron, freeze one of the Mancubi (or blow him up) and kill him, and finally deal with the final one using an Engineer or whatever works the best for the current time.

I also tried to see what would happen if you died as the Revenant. It's very simple, you just die in general and have to reload your checkpoint or start over in UN, I would assume.

Yeah, SGN has some really nice arenas. I would probably go with SGN and Taras Nabad for gameplay, but my overall favourite would probably be Doom Hunter Base.

Yeah, that's the best part of it. It's very atmospheric with its music and mystery as you traverse the base constantly getting small sights of the Doom Hunter up until you get to face the big boy himself. It's good stuff and definitely a good example of where platforming works because there's a lot more happening in those periods of respite. I wish there were more levels implementing similar ideas.
