amazing games

though I think 2033 is probably the least fair in ranger hardcore, some sections feel near impossible. meanwhile the other 2 were easy to ranger hardcore.

the entire metro (for the most) part would connect I'd think

and they could make the overworld irradiated and dangerous encouraging the slower metro use.

like no loading screens. the metro would just run under the main overworld map. and the metro would encourage you to travel strategically to get to objectives and certain places.

like imagine having to work and use money to buy supplies for a long uptop journey to a secluded metro access tunnel for an objective. would be dope, and then when done with that secluded area it can lead to an access point in the metro that unlocks a shortcut back to where you started so you dont have to come back the way you came.

I keep trying with morrowind its just too odd for me, the response I look for in games is missing. Like when I stab a creature and I see no blood no damage no nothing, I learned that stamina is way more important than in others but it feels... too weird for my liking, if I shot an enemy and it says "miss" above their head because my accuracy was low with a gun I'd be equally as upset. Like the visual queues or responses aren't there, however it is from like 2004 so I can't really be that mad at it

Yes, the point I'm trying to make is that cross gen is precisely the issue.

We are almost 4 years into the console generation and the AAA gaming industry is stagnant. New releases are not innovating in the way that they were in the mid 2010's and that's because the industry is held back for this arbitrary need to have games releasing for decade old hardware.

Imagine if red dead redemption 2, spiderman, uncharted 4, etc very technically impressive games that launched in the mid late generation of the Playstation 4 all had to also release on the Playstation 3? You can easily see how that could have slowed that generations tech down.

Going back even further, imagine gta5, skyrim, or dishonored having to release on the Playstation 2, these would likely not even be close to being the same game, even same genre if that had to be a limiting factor to their development

And we've seen this in action with current gen. Cyberpunk 2077 was a mess, and would have objectively benefited in both sales and reception if it had only released for current gen. Only further proven by how the game gained a whole new audience and praise a made a ton of money when 2.0 and phantom liberty came out, which abandoned last gen, as it should have always have

Another game, spiderman 2. It's very technically impressive and actually pushed it's franchise forward in that regard by being a current gen exclusive. Actually requiring the ps5s ssd to render the city on real time and unlock faster web swinging and load/render times

Whereas the cross gen game (miles morales) was held back and was mechanically and techwise the same as spiderman 2018

I can see what you are trying to show but many people including myself can say that they look almost identical so if you think about it the ps4 is almost the same on graphics and on fps which fps on a 60-30 scale is barely noticeable

Well my point about spiderman is how the innovation effected the game mechanically, and opened more gameplay opportunities that would have never happened had it needed to be released on the ps4.

Same thing with cyberpunk, a complete gameplay overhaul and a massive narrative content/map expansion all by unshackling themselves of last gen hardware. Not too mention the visual and performance enhancements aswell

But regardless, I'm not really talking about graphics, it's hard to know just how good ps5 graphics could be if the AAA industry actually did move on from last gen entirely.

Again you are kind of highlighting the exact issue I have with modern games. If there was truly innovation in modern games through the focus on REAL next Gen games we wouldn't have to be arguing about the difference in 30-60 fps, just admiring the actual technical leaps the industry is making to create beautiful and feature rich games

I'm actually if the mind that we've hit a sort of visual peak for gaming in some regards, and that the race to have the most realistic visuals is actually hurting the industry in some ways, but that's also not to say that games shouldn't try just that they should simply try a little harder to be visually distinct while also being technically impressive when possible

And when not, visual distinction should always be the priority over the most realistic graphics

Hey you know people are struggling with prices and such because people would rather buy a 150$ ps4 on Craigslist then a 350$ ps5 on temu because people can be down on luck and rich people or middle class shouldn't be able to decide what a company does because if they have like 5 million people on last gen who wants the free game and it is on new gen then 5 million people will be disappointed

I don't think the financial status of a minority that cannot afford a console should effect every aspect of the industry. If you can't afford the console, you also probably can't afford all the new and innovative games for it either, seeing how those have gotten extremely expensive

That is an issue between the individual and their financial situation, not me and definitely not the entire industry. We all know how it feels to struggle. It sucks, but when your struggling financially I doubt the newest hardware and newest games are the first thing on your mind, so not only are we catering to the minority, but it's a minority that doesn't have the ability to be invested in every new release anyway so the prospect of even getting their money in the first place is slim.

So I say again, it's unfair to expect the people who's primary hobbies are tech and gaming to get less than ideal products because a select group of people who aren't fully invested anyway won't be able to afford it, to that I give my full empathy but also say "tough luck"

Would you also say that designer clothing or high end cars need to also cater to thrift shops or used car lots, or directly to poor consumers themselves? Likely not, not if looked at objectively anyway. It's why evaluation based off feelings is hard, and it makes people of my opinion seem like we don't care or like we are trying to gatekeep. When really we just want what's best for industry and it's most loyal hobbyists

I will say it is sad for games to be released for a later date because of a gen that I am not in but think of this GTA is released for ps4 then ps5 then PC 1 year apart and I would see why you would be mad but the other people on lower gens would be happy so the higher gens would say we want it earlier so now the order goes like this PC PS5 PS4 and PS4 wouldn't be happy etheir either so they have to release at the same time so everyone is happy

This seems like more of an argument about hardware exclusivity as it relates to the current generation over hardware exclusivity as it relates to a generational leap in technology

So before I bite, let my explain where I draw the line, so it doesn't look like I'm moving the goalpost to seem intellectually consistent.

The core difference is that hardware exclusivity in the way you are describing with this hypothetical is purely based off of selling more hardware and trying to capitalize on an audience that isn't already invested in your products.

It's why sony kept their exclusives for so long, and it's why they continue to release console exclusives only to bring them to other hardware later. The big executive idea is that the intrigue and hype around the game pushes people to buy the console to play it on, and this worked phenomenally throughout the ps4 generation and is still decent in the current generation but it's falling off, clearly outlined by the fact that they are now bringing so many exclusives to pc.

This is because during the ps4 generation the industry WAS innovating, sony was able to consistently push out generation defining, console selling games.

We saw the most recent falls of xbox due to their games missing the mark so consistently that xbox is dropping out of the console exclusives race and likely the console race entirely. Because they failed at selling consoles with good games. Playstation exclusivity is only held by great console seller 1st party games, and even that ship is starting to crack

I would be upset if I had to wait as a console player to play gta6 an entire year. Just as (the point I assume your making) ps4 players would be sad to not play the new call of duty, or God of war ragnarok.

The key difference is that there's no market benefit, (real or percieved) to release a game on pc before consoles. It would JUST serve to piss off the widest playerbase in the world with little to no added benefit

My issue is that cp2077 was absolutely hated, and for good reasons. However they just completely fuckin ignored all that the second an anime released on it "Well its better now!"
