It kept getting really cool updates as they figured out how to get navmesh working for AI and were able to restore PVE modes too and people came up with tons of fun stuff like Infected from Halo or your standard hide & seek stuff, and randomized servers much like the other TF2 where you would get a totally random kit that included both titan and pilot abilities, weapons and melee. And some people liked to mess with gravity where you had basically permanently flying pilots in the skybox shooting at each other and others were stuck on the ground and so on

I mean honestly the best parts of public btz were just getting some sick frags against LEGIT people or random dl bug moments and back in the day when it consisted of coherent people; meeting strangers and just having chill matches, mostly during events and getting randoms to do hypermode glitches with you. That's the gold under the stinky cesspool that is the rest of the experience.
Private matches were always just a bunch of shittery so friends inevitably make fun memories in that area.
I loved the times when you could actually just chat in the game.
Before 90% of the busted DLC was added
and before 90% of the community figured out how to cheat
