But lots of people do ask that if you put a dog in a game, please allow the player to pet it, and good game devs tend to listen to the desires of the community. Game mechanics and design are so subjective some people find one flaw of a overall great game and use it to criticize the entire package, while some may find one positive in a dogshit release, and spend years trying to convince everyone they are wrong about this "underrated gem"

These discussions are so important, and I love that both sides exist. I believe it's toxic, but because games are so subjective it's weirdly healthy to have extreme opinions.

To tie it back in with the conversation, this is why games should stick to a niche. Only the people who like your game are gonna play your game, so you should try to make the best possible game for the audience it's being made for.
