The biggest selling point was the melee combat, but it's just weak compared to other games that do much better zombie melee. (Immediately TLOU and DL come to mind)

So if their flagship feature is poor then the rest of the gameplay has to rely on stuff that is already in (and implemented better) in dead space. So what's the point?
