The melee combat looks clunky and the enemies look way too spongy, the stealth looks simple and kills any tension for gameplay, the shooting is bare bones for a game that should have built up on what dead space was yet it has only regressed. Things have just simply gotten worse for the gameplay, there's no horror when most combat encounters can be cheesed with stealth and the game relies on cheap junpscares for horror. And theres no survival when once again most combat encounters can be cheesed and healing items are in plenty abundance so there's no fear even in open combat

No, I made the comparison of side content, not the main stories. However if you want to actually talk about the main stories of both games, Dead Space revealed a lot more about Isaac and other characters in the beginning of the game. Right off the bat you know that Isaac has a personal reason as to why he's there. Jacob on the other hand doesn't get the same treatment (there are spoilers I won't mention unless you want to go down that road).

Everything is hinted toward the player about the Marker through all of the psychological trauma that Isaac goes through with his dead wife, the voices, and the marker symbols

1. Stealth made the game too easy as most enemies could be insta killed right in front of each other without alerting their buddies. It was quite funny to stealth kill one, and literally clip through the other during the kill animation on the first, and the second had absolutely no idea I was there despite that.
2. Health Injectors were abundant throughout the majority of the game, where I had to sell quite a few of them for space. It was only around the last act that I was struggling to find them (especially during backtrack segments where I already looted them), but at that point it wasn't so bad with how OP I was with all the weapons and skills.
3. I personally never got scared, even though it tried to with tons of predicable jumpscares and setups. I was able to even predict out loud the majority of them. Though it tries to be a survival horror, it really drops the ball at actually trying to make those elements work.

The aim lock with the gunshot follow up after a melee combo is also not toggleable at all. The reason why I had issues with this is because I wanted to shoot the tentacles off an enemy before he mutated, but instead I was aimlocking to his head because of the prompt.

See, I like games like cyberpunk and assassin's creed 3. These are commonly hated games yet they are some of my favorites. That doesn't mean I'm not willing to call out their likely multiple page lists of glaring issues, but they are games I like and defend often.

You don't have to die on this hill, if you genuinely do think Callisto Protocol is a great game that's completely up to you. Actually it's because of the side characters, world building and environmental storytelling that paint a good picture of what's going on. You learn a lot about the history of the Ishimura before shit went down, but a lot of plot elements are made clear just from following the main path.

heres the thing tho and this is exactly where i'm trying to get with you on this discussion, based off purely just what i've played so far of callisto i find that it already has done more in terms of revealing its main plot without being entirely carried by the stuff you find in the side areas than dead space 1 did (and considering im not even done with the game you can see why that's a huge deal), and i'd put it on a tie with the 2nd game based purely on the fact that the 2nd one had focused alot more on this aspect, the point i'm getting at is the criticism regarding the audio recordings that you deemed negligible compared to dead space 1's have to do with that game relying on the logs to carry and fill in the details of its plot, if you played ds1 without collecting any of these you'd understand alot less than you do in callisto, which is why ds1 had as much as 7 or 8 audio recordings in one chapter at a time, there was so much plot but was left out in favor of the atmosphere / vibe that game generated, and you needed to get it in order to understand wtf was going on on the ishimura, if you just played the game like i told you the natural plot reveal would be like this : Isaac Clarke and what he's doing there - filler and following orders to survive until the death of the black guy dont remember his name - revelation of that doctor - revelation of the betrayal of kendra or whatever his name is - final boss fight and that's the game

Ok this perspective actually makes a lot of sense, and I agree. I guess what differentiates between both games, is that the "background info" / world building of Dead Space is a LOT more important to really understanding the full picture, when compared to how the world building didn't matter too much in Callisto, as the importance of Europa and Callisto itself is negligible - (||Europa is just a testing ground, nothing else explored there, and Callisto just happens to be where the bioweapon was discovered. This may be more important in the future but as far as the single game goes, nothing is developed with these. Comparatively the history of the Ishimura is very important to understand the Unitologist's motivations and the reasons why things are the way they are, and why the crew turned out like that. It's much more than just the Marker's shenanigans itself. Unfortunately we're never told the motivations of Cole and his people other than "humanity needs to conquer the stars so we need biological evolution" which is VERY stereotypical.||)

I completely agree on all of what you've said but i just invite you to consider how callisto is 1 game, the first game, and how dead space needed 1 and a half games to finally explain what should've been done in the first game (im talking about the fact that you finally get to the church of unitology in chapter 4 of the 2nd game, as well as how the 2nd game for its first part felt like it was still trying to tie loose ends left by the first one and fill in plot holes), callisto doesn't have that, they don't throw you a bone and tell you okay we'll tell you the full story later, the way i see it the plot so far feels like they skipped the vague BS (which is fun obviously i had the same take with death stranding's plot), but i still think it's just as good of a method of plot design
