The problem is, if the show has shown that consistency is important, and / or is intended to be believed that it is grounded in realism, a LACK of consistency can completely break down everything and MAKE it unentertaining. A great example is Star Wars 8 (The Last Jedi) Hyperspace kamikazi. That completely breaks the world building, as it's way too effective at taking out a whole fleet. Now we have to say "why don't they just mount hyperdrives on any kind of aircraft or drone and suicide them into fleets?" That ONE instance in that movie completely changes how space warfare SHOULD work in the entire Star Wars universe.
