i use a mixture of ballistic dmg and melee dmg now so that my melee weapons last a tad longer, less repair, also allows me some buffer zone between my Crane and the mobs

you can do this with two DLCs, giving you two suppressed ballistic weapons

if you want your heart to pump faster you can try going melee only

I wouldn't worry so much about losing specific items as long as you don't drop them or throw them. However, people can mess up your save, so it is always recommended to make a backup.

if you venture into Old Town you can unlock suppressed 9mm pistols and also accompanying subsonic rounds

there are 2 DLCs that grants you suppressed pistol and suppressed rifles that uses normal rounds

if melee weapons letting you down, try googling about tricks for getting stronger melee weapons

for example crafting volatile hunter batons with pickaxes can help you a tiny bit hold'n back the tides of mobs

or volatile hunter knives paired with the strongest cleavers and sickles you can get your hands on

that might help, your mileage may vary

but seriously you gotta keep playing in the sandbox and loook for ways to stop aggro'iing everyone man, thhat shhit will induce a lot of unnecessary anxiety

keep dying and keep learning, no shame

if you gotta enjoy some loud weapons, use them very very sparingly, SMG and shotguns, reserve for the worst possible emergencies, like being surrounded by volatiles or something
