Yeah, Biters are early-stage infections and Viral is the first mutation. Kyle got a special strain that gave him Volatile traits without going through all the stages, so he’s kind of a hybrid

Exactly! Spitters aren’t about gender—they’re just a viral mutation with ranged attacks. Think of it as a ‘class’ of infection, not a sex thing

Likely, if you have enough Fighting Strength, you can become a stronger zombie.

I think, however, that Volatiles are mutated based off how long you held off the infection from taking you over, or based on how long you had the infection all together, because the Volatiles look like a product of Length of Infection rather than just a sole mutation. Not only that, but Aiden seems to be more likely to have that strain as a separation from the main THV2, as he only got infected by one and not outright infected at random.

Yeah, that makes sense. Volatiles probably depend on how long someone’s been infected or how their body reacts to the virus, not just random mutation. That’s why Rahim was still a Biter, Jade was a Viral, and Kyle ended up as a partial Volatile—he got a special strain that pushed him toward Volatile traits without going through all the normal stages. So it’s less about fighting strength and more about how the virus interacts with the host over time

Could also mean that, the stronger the traits of whatever gave the infection, the more likely the mutation in the strain is carried, via Aiden's infection.

thanks! yeah it's hard to get the hang of the flashlight as a tool for photo mode(it doesn't shin exactly where it looks like it does in-game when you switch to photo mode) but once you do you can get some nice volatile images, here's a couple others I took the other day. volatiles are actually pretty photogenic if you can get them in the right light
