I just checked, it's the "Chase" setting in HUD that activates the icon above volatiles when they spot you for a bit, and unfortunately i think it comes together with the spooky sound effect, so if you disable the icon, the sound effect won't be there either. Quite unfortunate.

The physical setting was a nice middle ground but a far cry from "fixed." As for the map not supporting it, well, the map is a mix of what makes Dying Light, Dying Light. You have countryside of the following and the old town/city side of it.

I respect your opinions but the floatiness made the game way less intense. I'm ngl I do everything in my power to avoid the volatiles in the beast, much like 1 (until you get prison weapons), whereas in 2 I would kill 100s of volatiles for their loot/trophies without any concern.
