Yeah if the lighting is warm colors I typically use purple/blue shadows. Same goes if the lighting is purple i go for red/orange shading. It adds more color to it

First lesson:
The most basic and important thing in art, lines.
It's basiclly the heart of art. Needs alot alot of practice but don't worry you can also practice this when you trying to learn other parts of art and casually drawing.
There is also a technic that makes your pencil control better: move only your wrist/elbow/shoulder (depends on your line size and detail level that your part of art) when drawing.

And also there is boxes and perspective.
Boxes are also ona of the most important thing in art becouse everything is basicly a box at all. Practice create perfect. (I've got cute box head origami if you want referance about it)
And perspective (you just need 2 point perspective for now so others are just showcase)
For this you need an horizon line (that where our cameras lens high or where human eye level) if it's goes higher you see more ground, if it's goes down you see more sky. Then put 2 dot left and right side of horizon line not make them too close, and lines goes these points.
Ps: best way to learn this is trace with ruler.

Also an exercise guide: total 100 eyes, (you can play the numbers if you feel good enough) 25 pencil real life referances, 25 pencils without referance, 25 ball point with real life referances and lastly 25 ball point without referances.
You don't have to do it in one day or one week, you can spent as much time as you like.
I spend whole summer and draw 70 like eyes to learn this (few minute per eye btw).
