some are like in normal clothes, a few dresses as revolutionaries, a couple that were naked
its all over
We being Canada*. Sorry. lol

they look like they watched a movie about revolutions and now dress like that
interesting remark
There were anarchist protests in DC when Trump was inaugurated. They focused on damaging property downtown, never on overthrowing the government. This crowd had more of a mind to overthrow the government than actual anarchists.
There was a video I saw from door to the house where the protester was shot and the person behind them was holding a rifle, idk how accurate the video is though
its pretty likely that some of them are armed
Yeah a woman was confirmed shot in the chest/neck area and taken out from the capitol
Was one of the Trump supporters
No confirmation as to who it was that shot though
No offense, but this sir is very bad-headed I think
Some of them are definitely armed.
And I just got the same "could not be delivered" message when trying to reply to Mal
I even turned the ping off.
discord seems to be struggeling right now
I got the same thing earlier but thatโs probably because I was replying to the banned guy
Hey look, the cops love far-right terrorists. Old news!
Makes sense when the left calls to defund the police.
cause effect or effect vs cause?
Which just reinforces the leftโs desire to defund them.
Yep, I mixed up cause and effect
The pictures of seeing these people in the senate chamber, offices, etc is so embarrassing
some of them look like tourists, which would be pretty funny if they weren't dangerous
Just sums up how much of a joke this country has been for a while
also, quite a lot of them look like 60+. Who in that age thinks "hey lets storm the government building, it will be fun!"
lol The Oatmeal
Lmao
this is what my states president said
The Gov. of Germanyโs largest state @ArminLaschet โFor centuries the US Congress was a global symbol for freedom and democracy. The attacks by fanatic Trump supporters hurt every friend of the USA. Those sowing populism and polarization with words will reap hatred and violence.โ https://t.co/OpsZkKkZZf
I switched to BBC to see other views earlier and they were airing Star Trek

also, the terrorist, turned back from the capitol by armed forces, are now attacking the reporters https://mobile.twitter.com/shomaristone/status/1346941715895250949
BREAKING. Mob of Trump supporters swarm the media near the US Capitol. They yell what Trump frequently says, โthe media is the enemy of the people.โ They destroy equipment and chased out reporters. Iโve never seen anything like this in my 20 year career: @nbcwashington @MSNBC https://t.co/3VLC07JQR2

I know nothing about the government structure of any country other than USA and slightly UK and Canada
germany is a federalism as much as the US is. it just actually works
Oh. The media? You mean the "enemy of the people?" Why ever would they attack the media?

(/s)
as in, the states talk to each over and enact combined rules against covid for example
Iโm sure if we had another shot at making a government we wouldnโt do the same dumb shit we did 250 years ago
Actually
We would do worse
thats what am always saying
the biggest issue of the US is that they never had a chance to rewrite the consitution
we did multiple times in the last century, lol
Well, we can change it
its very difficult to amend the constitution in the US
I mean itโs effectively changing it
bvut I dont mean small adjustment. I mean the full rewrite we did after hitler for example
fixing mistakes
not only does have to pass congress by a super majority, 3/4th of states need to ratify it to take effect
A multi party system would be nice, the two-party system doesn't work.
Yeah weโd need to have our country completely destroyed like Germany was for that to happen mini
yeah, thats what am saying, we had that chance multiple times
Of course the people in power would be less likely to get re-elected with a multi-party system so it's never going to happen.
and so had other countries in europe
An amendment could be pretty much a total rewrite though. Just incredibly hard to get through.
the federal government cant just change the rules and tell the states to go fuck themselves
A multi party system would be nice, the two-party system doesn't work.
๐ They have a direct example of a multi-party plurality electoral system just north of them
No the entire thing can be amended I believe
I think we have like 5 representing parties at the moment
Still 3 major ones at play, but ye
Besides the constitution is only followed if the people in power and controlling the judges want to follow it
amendments can scrap everything, as parts have been tossed out before using amendments, I think the 12th is a good example
yes, it's fair game for an amendment to change whatever it wants, nothing is untouchable
The Twelfth Amendment (Amendment XII) to the United States Constitution provides the procedure for electing the president and vice president. It replaced the procedure provided in Article II, Section 1, Clause 3, by which the Electoral College originally functioned. The amendment was proposed by the Congress on December 9, 1803, and was ratified by the requisite three-fourths of state legislatures on June 15, 1804. The new rules took effect for the 1804 presidential election and have governed all subsequent presidential elections.
but the process to is lengthy and unlikely to be a thing again in the coming years with how divided the states are along the same political lines as the rest of us
It was designed to be a bitch to pass anything through that is unpopular even if the federal government passed the amendment
edited that, it has clearly happened, meant in the recent future
lol the video, guy yells into the mic "fuck cnn" but just seconds before the camera focused on the boxes that said "AP" on them
Thing is everything is unpopular these days
Going to be interesting to see if people try to stay with the curfew and start getting arrested.
So do they come back tomorrow to continue or do they find another location?
nobody knows yet
they thought about just continuing in the undisclosed save location they are at
one would hope they are prepared now
Does the curfew apply to the press or is that something else?
Okay cool
Why did the rioters storm the building? was something important happening today?
curfew should never extend to press
this was trumps last ability to try to steal the election
wtf trump supporters on his little private hivemind reddit clone are calling for martial law

Looks like this was the goal to get their hands on? https://twitter.com/cnnbrk/status/1346950091924533248?s=19

Mayor of DC just got asked if it would be been different if it was BLM protest.
Yeah, they'd label it as mostly peaceful instead.
I'd damn well hope not
It's still terrorism regardless of what group with which you associate
Unless they were referring to the lenience of the police, in which case yeah, I'd be interested to know that as well
this is how these terrorist think about american freedoms
State-controlled news is so much better! ๐ (/s)

the second you use any force, they start running at you
breaking news: country self-proclaimed as โworld leader in fighting terrorismโ leads world in creating terrorists

๐
For some reason, here they have small batons and the odd pistol
Glare come hang out until the US is safe again.
Lol
Storming the capital is worse than rioting in cities. One is trying to overthrow the government and the other is a protest with people taking advantage of the situation.
Expect Glare to stay for a few years ๐
I got a chuckle out of pence unfollowing Trump briefly on Twitter.
They're both terrorism though.
I mean theyre both pretty awful, this is probably worse, especially legally
wouldnt really recommend anyone do either though
Yeah, trespass on federal property is a fairly serious crime, though doubt they'll focus on that unless they can't prove terrorism.
they wont press terrorism unless there's a specific threat
it takes too long
trespassing is ezpz
Holy shit lol

Shame that woman died though
Unsurprising given where she was shot
These are the things and events that happen when a sacred landslide election victory is so unceremoniously & viciously stripped away from great patriots who have been badly & unfairly treated for so long. Go home with love & in peace. Remember this day forever!

Vice President Mike Pence, not President Trump, approved the order to deploy the D.C. National Guard on Wednesday, defense and administration officials said. It was unclear why the president, who is still the commander in chief, did not give the order.
https://t.co/XBYJ1gdHFr
RIP, you now can't reply, retweet, or like Trump's tweet
He's doing speedruns.
What the fuck with that last tweet...
It was unclear why the president, who is still the commander in chief, did not give the order.
๐ because it's what he wants
"That's what you get, bitches! Btw be peaceful. But not really, because I'm a twat."
all his messages today saying to be peaceful were kinda pathetic really
That's an understatement lol
even weaker than his condemnations of white supremacy
What condemnations of white supremacy?
He has condemned white supremacy
Ejfjcjfjjejd look at pences banner https://twitter.com/Mike_Pence?s=09
That's mike and his wife
Ye
Joe Biden has never condemned the KKK but did praise a former KKK Exalted Cyclops as his โmentorโ
In the video where the one guy was charging a police line inside you can see the other officers getting hit by something then rubbing his eyes
President Donald Trump on Thursday denounced all extremist groups, including the right-wing, pro-Trump Proud Boys, following growing criticism over his apparent refusal to condemn white supremacy during Tuesdayโs presidential debate.
"Let me be clear again,โ Trump told conservative Fox News host Sean Hannity.ย โI condemn the KKK. I condemn a...
? i was just saying todays requests for peace were already weaker than the times he's condemned white supramecy
because .. they were pretty weak
All of the conspiracy theorists can have a read.
Were these before or after the stand down and stand by statement
Hes made a lot of statements that he doesn't follow anymore
So has every politician, welcome to politics.
His actions counter his words, making them feel hollow.
The stand down and stand by was during the debates
such as Charlottesville, where he did condemn white supremacy but then also blamed antifa
He's made post 2020 debate statements too.
so, kinda weakened his overall statement

It's pretty clear he only strings together sentences and statements to fit whatever situation he's currently in. His recent video shows it pretty clearly. He's expected to advocate for peace, but he continues to fuel the fire. "Look I'm putting it out". It doesn't really make sense to take his words at face value because there's always so much bullshit weaved in.
"Oh but he said this one thing on multiple occasions" is pretty much a pointless argument. It doesn't mean anything.
The question was if he'd denounced them, the unequivocal answer is yes
So what?
So the premise of the argument falls flat.
ThonkToday at 5:09 PM
even weaker than his condemnations of white supremacy
ChocoToday at 5:09 PM
What condemnations of white supremacy?
i mean i think my argument still stands pretty well
What a politician thinks is subjective, they all lie to us.
his condemnations are weak
Anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional
this instance was just even weaker than those were
But why would you ever want to argue semantics about Trump?
That'll never get you anywhere about anything.
No one is saying politications are not liars
I'm not, I'm arguing specifics. You're arguing semantics.
Yeah but what does it matter?
So he's said "bad things are bad", was that your point?
If so, then yeah, sure, whatever. Who cares.
That's exactly a discussion I had a few days ago with zzCat I think. People condemning things a normal human condemns means nothing.
There is literally no benefit if Trump denounces any group.
It changes jack shit.
Then why are you defending him saying he doesn't support them
hes the president. he said "we love you", he is encouraging this.
.
"He denounces white supremacy here is linkzz!" "But it doesn't mean he does tho!"
Denouncing white supremacy != not supporting them
lol
Saying someone made a specific statement does not say the nuance can be absolutely refuted.
He's a liar just like the rest of them.
hes actively inciting violence, thats what makes him different to the rest
Well his statement didn't indicate that to me.
No no it's ok he said no violence 3 years ago
The man telling you that he doesn't condone the axe murderer at your door while directing the axe murderer to your door
I mean, we're going to ignore that he made the opposite direction?
Mafia bosses don't get their hands dirty, either
Doesn't make them good
Or innocent
Twitter just followed FB and deleted Trumps tweets

Damn
Iirc they're supposed to be forbidden from doing that. I wonder who pulled strings where to get that done
Maybe to convince people he never told them to stop/go home/etc?
what did he tweet
Or maybe because they thought it'd incite more of this?
he tweeted his condemnation of what was happening the capitol as a video
but uhh.. it's gone now
wtf they found explosives
He posted a video, where he said the election was stolen, but let democracy do it's thing, stop the violence, go home, etc, I love you.
this is what I get for looking away
They're not forbidden, Egg; they're allowed (required?) to when there's a risk for imminent harm towards an individual or the general public
Of course they did. I'm surprised nothing actually exploded
I guess someone determined there's risk
so far
fucking finally
i mean his condemnation was so weak it makes sense that they deleted it
it would be up if it was actually one
If it's from official gov't accounts Twitter is supposed to leave them up, if I remember
but instead he spends half the video going on about how the election was stolen still
I mean Biden's was weak too.
its not an official account, its his personal
It was more of a demand to Trump than anyone else.
Apparently there's a special case revolving around presidential accounts, even if personal
and what would a condemnation from biden even do?
Not entirely sure how that works
he's not the president
when you include a message of "I agree with you, you are justified" in with your "go home", it doesnt help shit. thats why they deleted it
^
He was good with "I understand that you're upset, go home" but then started going on about a stolen election
Can't, for one fucking second, make it not about him
Yeah
Presidential social media accounts all get archived by the National Archives and Records Administration, think that's the only specific rule.
well he doesnt use the official one, so i wonder what theyll do w/ his personal
i think the official one retweets everything his personal one tweets
Congressional leaders are in the undisclosed location and focusing on the 25th Amendment to get @realDonaldTrump out of office!
1399

... really now...
how do they know
Only select things
Yeah
Isn't it an undisclosed location for a reason?
Federal NDA is a powerful thing
There's news there
They just can't say anything
Or they risk federal prison
i wonder if the 25th is gbing to actually be invoked :o
Or worse
@near glen just so we're clear, I do not support what those people are doing. I'd much prefer people who are able to meet in a civil manner, not take matters into their own hands like this. Problem is they're following a line of thinking and believing it so strongly that they're willing to carry out violence to get their way... simply outrageous
I hope the 25th is invoked.
me too
I hope so
i don't think they'll do it
We'll see
even now i don't think they would
Conspiracy theorists be malding today
i would be honestly extremely surprised if they did
Someone hacked his twitter and that was a deepfake! /s
because i don't really even see it as the republican party anymore and more of the party of trump
It would likely be a political misstep if they did.
must have been using MAGA2020! or yourefired as a password again
mmm idk about that james
I bet she's loving being able to tweet this stuff:
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
48595
445728
At least before the votes are certified.
Actually he's still technically the majority leader, not that it's an official position.
The problem if they remove Trump is Pence becomes President. Which means there is no Vice President, thus no President of the Senate. In which case the Senate has to choose a new President of the Senate in order to certify results.
I think president of the senate is picked via super majority too.
That being said I think that makes Pelosi president on the 20th then?
If that delays the count a few days, who cares. It's the signal that counts. Even a president is responsible for what he does and can't do whatever the fuck he thinks about
The problem is it could theoretically delay it indefinitely.
Is the situation still happening
i mean i think they're all out of the capitol now
Nah, they emptied capitol building an hour or so ago.
i stopped watching a bit ago though so idk whats happening now
Pretty sure it would have been something like fully armed members of National Guard start clearing rooms and people noped the fuck out.
Well, there's also the sources saying that trump refused to activate them and pence had to do it
i believe it
oh man
A woman was shot inside the Capitol by a member of law enforcement and later died, several law enforcement officials said

Realistically they could never have done anything to affect the process, it's going to happen. They're just wasting everyone's time, making themselves look horrible, and wasting taxpayer money.

Just what the actual fuck with your priorities and watching it burn. https://t.co/7T7LnNUWhj
Just remember, tweeting spam will get you a harsher punishment than trying to fucking overthrow the government.
Yup
Rand Paul says they aren't going to contest any more states
They're going to finish the debate on Arizona, vote to give it to Biden, then read through the rest of the states and get it over with
Awesome
They don't want to go through this again tomorrow, I guess
I don't think anyone would
Well realistically there is no likely change in outcome if Arizona doesn't get changed, since it was the state with the most inconsistencies I think.
Er, not inconsistencies.
Possible problems is more accurate.
Well, the original plan was to contest like 8 of them and drag this out for 20 hours

As Representative Paul Gosar of Arizona began to speak, officers in the House chamber began locking doors and telling members not to leave and that the building was about to go into lockdown. Senior lawmakers including Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Steve Scalise, the second-ranking Republican in the House, were all escorted out.
As debate resumed again, Representative Dean Phillips, a Minnesota Democrat, screamed โthis is all because of you.โ Then lawmakers were told they needed to stay in their seats, then that they should duck and cover and that tear gas had been released and they should put on gas masks that were under their seats.
Soon after, pounding on the main door to the House floor -- the door that the president enters when he delivers the State of the Union address -- grew louder and officers began to barricade it with any furniture they could find. From the other side, a protester began to smash glass in the door and the police drew their weapons and shouted โBack away or weโll shoot!โ

So they are going to delay for 6 hours?
they need majority say ya to do it?
If a majority of both houses says yes they discard the votes
House was never going to vote yes and it was very unlikely the Senate would
oh house is voting too? i think im only watching senate, ive only got half the story
f
House isn't done debating yet, they got started again later
ah
They're like an hour behind
Going to be a late night if they are delaying for 6 hours.
Did Tubberville say aye?
yes
Electoral votes are essentially house reps + senators. (in number only). So is reasonable for them both to affirm the election.
2 hours per state they contest
Some Senators have said they aren't going to contest anymore and implied that was a decision from the whole group
So what if both majority leaders say no?
So after the House finishes they should just have to go through the motions of Pence saying his bit 47 more times and it being confirmed 47 more times
Say no to what?
Objecting
They don't get to play games on whether the vote can be brought for this one, it's a forced thing
Ahh
If one Senator and one Representative contest a state the debate has to happen and the vote has to happen
Ultimately. Individual congressmen can object by going out of line with the majority/minority leaders.
Only if it's contested
They don't "HAVE" to debate for 2 hours though.
And the first one was, yes?
only arizona is being contested right now or all of them still being contested
Otherwise Pence just reads off his "certificate from blah blah appears to be in order", hands it to a Senator, and they confirm it's in order
Then they ask if anyone objects, if no one does they move on to the next state
Oh so it's only arizona
So far.
They did Alabama and Alaska then got to Arizona and Gomar and Cruz objected
Sorry, Gosar
So they started the debate then people stormed the building
Now. The pundits indicate that most of the congresspeople will get their 2 cents in, and then let the process move on. Not drag the process out as much as they originally planned.
Republicans had planned to contest 8 states, each of them taking probably 3 hours to get through (2 hours for debate plus time before/after for voting and moving around)
That's so long holy crap
Now they say they want to get this over with so won't contest anymore
just to spite biden win smh
6 Yea, 93 Nay. 1 Missing?
Yep
Who's the one missing?
ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
Yeah
6 = the number objecting. So the objection does not stand
oh I suppose the last one would be...biden?
We have to wait an hour and a half for the next state?
They have sworn in the new congress-people. So couldn't be biden
oh ok
Biden hasn't been in the Senate since 2008
oh yeah. That too
You can tell I'm an idiot
Harris was there today though
hmm
Guess she hasn't resigned yet
This is my first election I've been old enough to vote in so I'm fairly new to this.
Sorry for all the questions
So do we have to wait an hour for the house the finish to go of the next state?
Yeah, probably about an hour
Oh wow
Senate is doing some "normal" business to kill time and try to convince Hawley to stop trying to contest things
Hawley is apparently a holdout, he still plans to contest the vote in Pennsylvania
I missed the vote count
6/93/1
6 yea, 93 nay
Tyty
Hawley was the first Senator to say he would help the crazies in the House contest a state then the others piled on to get the attention
Ugh. Gross.
Going to be a long night
Iโm cooking. So Iโm glad someone is keeping watch of the counting.
Hawley and Cruz have been using it to do fundraising, they claim it's to help with lawsuits and such but most of it goes to their campaigns
And they both posted fundraising messages while people were storming the building
oh boy
wow
Looks like it was deleted from Twitter, trying to find a copy
what this man just said certain countries political violence may be necessary
oh my god
yes
Gaetz?
matt gaetz
This guy...
Lindsey Graham gave that speech like he has to leave the country at the end of it and didn't want to miss his flight.
196
1906
Proof Iโm cooking amd not lazy lol
Shit like this is why the Senate considers the House to be full of children
wrong channel tresswa?
Not that they've been doing much better lately but still
No, Iโm just saying I normally would be looking this up and listening to what theyโre saying , and Iโm asking questions like a fool as I fry thia
whats going on
Lindsey Graham is drunk and is breaking up with Trump on live television
https://t.co/aDQ28idGH2
181
Oh wow. Ty
The House is where all the children are, remember? ๐
:/
iirc they had like 70 of them
Does the side (YEA vs NAY) with the most win?
Yeah, it's a simple majority in both chambers for this vote
Senate already voted it down though so the House vote doesn't even matter
Just gotta do it to say they did, basically?
Yeah, it's required
Ah
And it gets it on the record for future attack ads and fundraising ๐
Ugh god
What was the senate result
96-3
6/93/1
6/93/1
oh yeah
and that is?
for nay
yea/nay/???
6 yea, 93 nay, 1 did not vote
ah
50 now wtf
Yeah/Nay/uwu
Technically there are 4 states: yea, nay, present, and not present
Who are the six senators trying to drown democracy?
kennedy, cruz are 2
Cruz, Hawley, Hyde-Smith, Kennedy, Marshall, and Tuberville
Dunno who didn't vote yet
Those voting against the results of the American election were: Senators Josh Hawley of Missouri, Ted Cruz of Texas, Tommy Tuberville of Alabama, Cindy Hyde-Smith of Mississippi, Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas and John Kennedy of Louisiana.
Wait they are done for tonight?
No
Every time I see his name, I'm surprised Cruz is doing pro trump things and not off being the zodiac killer fighting the guy who insulted him so much
I'm not even sure they're allowed to call it a day before they finish
Ok, just to be clear, this vote is to overturn the election right? So if the yeas had had it, we're talking about a vote in which Congress would decide the presidency and Trump would be reelected right?
If the yeas have it they throw out the votes from that state
just arizona's electors
Oh it's worsse than that simple. One state at a time can be objected to
So what just happened? I was out for a moment.
afaik there is no means for them to just reassign those votes, they just subtract them from the total
house voting now
meaning what for the election? if they're thrown out, the election is recertified without that state or that state votes again?
Yeah they just subtract them from the 538 total and now you need half of the new total to win

For Arizona that would remove 11 votes so it'd go to 527 and you'd need 264 to win instead of 270
so if the senate votes no the house vote doesn't matter anyways?
i see
Right, they both have to vote yea to throw the votes out
Which was never going to happen and to be honest I'm not actually sure they're even allowed to do when there is only one set of electors
There is a very good chance voting yea here would do literally nothing
Listening to some news coverage. And heard them mention my state's name. Irritates me when my congressperson says something - they will then say "The State of X is objecting". Although technically correct, frustrates me to no end to be dragged into their shenanigans
Well, thereโs a well document recent history of holding pointless votes i guess..
Don't forget on the 11th the president gets to roll two dice in front of the chief justice of the supreme court and if he gets snake eyes the results are flipped.
Unless Biden has a reverse card
22nd amendment
What?
Uno is on the 13th, amaranth
He's joking kash
on jan 15th they hold the 2nd national vote
Congress may 5th amendments Trump- apparently his immediate removal is roumored to be voted on
Kashike I'm just kidding. But did you notice your latest commit hash on adventure spells out gullible?
It has almost as much pointless bullshit as UK's Parliament
It's posterity at this point
25th Amendment, most people haven't read it as allowing Congress to do that on their own but you certainly can read it like that and Pelosi started doing so this year
25th* sorry
Missed a 2
Yeah, it's not really designed to be weaponized
But if the insurrection act can be, then..
I suppose so can 25th
Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.
Again, rumours at this point, but Trump is looking at the insurrection act
According to rumours
Not fact afaik, but I wouldn't be surprised
That has normally been read as VP and (majority of Cabinet or other body Congress picks) but you could read it as (VP and majority of Cabinet) or other body Congress picks
In fact I do think that second way makes more sense but that's not how it was taught to me in school or how I ever heard anyone talk about it before this year
House says they're out of time but votes are still coming in
Uh, did Kevin McCarthy really thank the Capitol Police for ensuring the House chamber wasn't breached?
I guess he must have meant while the Representatives were still inside because there were definitely people in there too

can these old farts figure out their tech and finish voting already
wow 1 dem for yea
wtf
wonder who tf that was
I can't believe they got over 100 Republicans to go along with this, I guess their numbers grew since the last time I paid attention to them
ridiculous
Before Hawley got involved on the Senate side I think it was like 12
LOL omfg
they fat fingered their electronic voting device
Yeah, I figured someone fat fingered it
I think it went away once before too so perhaps two of them did it
The inability to serve requires the cabinet majority. If Trump contests it then Congress must vote 2/3rds to confirm the removal.
Cabinet majority or a body Congress picks
They can still kick him to the street
Congress has not officially decided on a method, which means they have to vote to decide it.
They should kick him now. Inciting terrorism? He broke his oath of office so many many tunes.
Decided on what?
*times
Trump can just veto any decision, thus we're back to 2/3rds.
Voting on something new?
Purity test for who is a real republican
Wait. James, what are you specifically referring to?
Are you taking about these proceeeings?
The 25th amendment has provision for Congress to decide on a method for Congress itself to remove a President. Otherwise the majority of the Cabinet must decide to remove the president in the event he is unable to serve his duties as president.
TIL Reagan was badass enough to get a colonoscopy without sedation but Bush 2 wasn't so had to invoke the 25th to turn over power to Cheney for a couple hours while he recovered from the sedatives
House/Senate procedures are not laws. Hence don't need signed by the president.
However they must vote to decide that method, but no Congress has ever decided on the method by which to invoke it, thus... they must vote.
The vote would have to be confirmed like any other bill.
Thatโs articles of impeachment
I don't think the 25th says they have to vote to pick that group but since it has to be both chambers a vote is the only way
Yes procedures must be voted upon if presented. But doesn't involve the executive branch
Oh no it says "may by law provide"
It's not decided by procedure, it's decided by constitutional law.
A law would imply it has to get signed by the President or override a veto
Oh. Well yeah. I would concede on that.
So wait
lol, Pelosi telling them "if you voted GTFO"
I am not 100% certain, but what I've read by constitutional experts suggests it would have to be passed into law first.
Are they voting for impeachment? Or are you guys just going "if.."
"if"
ah ok
last i heard they were drawing up articles, but they havent yet
"if" and the 25th, not impeachment
There are rumors that cabinet is thinking about invoking the 25th.
Some trade groups have called on them to do so
But it technically should only be invoked if he us unable to fulfill his duties as President.
Someone without a brain cannot fulfill duties :p
Considering cabinet are sworn members of government it's probably treason to invoke it because he's an idiot.
Not unable, it can be invoked in any situation deemed necessary
Inciting a coup attempt is a bit beyond idiot ๐
I'll believe the 25th being invoked when I see it. As things sit tonight, I don't see it happening.
Similar with impeachment. I believe the articles of impeachment will be presented - but unless things escalate further by the President - I don't believe the sentiment is strong enough against him to go further than just being impeached. (within the GOP)
Itโs โbe concerned for nuclear launch codesโ level
transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office
He has to be unable to discharge the powers and duties of office.
One could argue he is mentally deranged.
law provide
Ilhan Omar says she is drafting articles of impeachment, not that they'll ever get voted on
So the body of Congress that may decide has to be appointed by a law.
Apparently 3 people dropped dead in the middle of all of this
Heart attack, stroke, etc
There was the one shot by police, didn't know about the other two.
Plus the 1 who was shot
Oh okay.
4 people total
Amazes me how long it takes to collect all the votes in the house
So they basically did the "over my dead body" regarding Biden.
It's extra complicated to collect them now because they have to come in to the chamber in voting groups
And I'm sure a bunch of them are missing their groups
121/303/??
Shouldn't it be 14?
But yeah, this one is over.
So Arizona will stay?
Ah, 435 total, I forgot DC gets some electoral votes
Just a really dumb reason to die.
yea, get smarter next time u try and stage a coup
this is the closest i ever want to be to a coup in the U.S
That looks like it's inside the capitol building so if that officer isn't fired tomorrow...
Have a friend on FB that was in DC for the march/rally. Was relieved to hear they were not part of the rioters... Just can't imagine making a 20 hour road trip... for such a meaningless purpose (even before the mob behavior transpired)
Although. They are quick to blame "antifa" ๐ฆ Mirroring the President's refusal to to acknowledge he has some extremist followers. It is okay to acknowledge that not all of them are extremists...
We're up to 4 deaths now
Yeah my aunt earlier tried to tell me all the people breaking in to the building were Soros antifa plants
WASHINGTON (AP) โ DC Police: 4 people died as Trump supporters occupied Capitol; 1 woman shot by police, 3 in medical emergencies.
Just before my mom said it was fine the police were so nice to them but not BLM protesters because black people are more violent
It was not a great day for familial relations
As a resident of a GOP stronghold Grateful my immediate family are sane. Extended family.... not so much, politically
So are they literally walking all the way over there to vote on 1 state and then they go back?
My grandpa mostly has his heart in the right place but is gullible and doesn't understand some of the half-truths and exaggerations he sees when my grandma is watching OANN so ends up just getting angry because he doesn't believe them but they sound so believable
My grandma and aunt watch OANN and follow qanon stuff on facebook
My mom seems like a 4chan troll on /pol/ half the time
Can they not just stay over in the combined place? It's a lot of steps on their poor feet.
Most of the rest of my mom's side of the family seem like mild Trump supporters, mostly because he has an R next to his name
They don't really pay attention to politics
Extended family christmas... There was a lengthy conversation about how FoxNews has gotten rid of their conservative newscasters. So where the rest of the family needs to get their news from now.
The uncle on my dad's side I'm closest to thinks gay marriage being legal means in 20 years we'll legalize pedophilia but is otherwise an almost socialist democrat
He is a Catholic so I guess that makes sense
Wait McConnell's wife is going to resign from the Cabinet in protest?
oof. should stay on for 25th amendment if it has to be invoked...
So far the Social Secretary, Deputy Press Secretary, and First Lady's Chief of Staff have resigned today and the rumor is the Transportation Secretary will too
We might get through As!
Onto D's!
wat
They go through the states alphabetically
ah
Have they ever said it doesn't look authentic?
That's what the objection is for
I think they showed the outside of the White House earlier on MSNBC and were talking about how it looked like he wasn't up
Objections have taken place in previous elections. This is the only time I am aware that it has received such press though.
I guess when they took away Twitter he stopped popping more adderall
Dear lord
Dang Georgia
Let's see if they get a Senator
oh nice. ๐
oh shoot I'm missing out on the vote!?
yes
Yes
u dum
watching now
lol the georgia objection
Even without a Senator they'll get up there just so they can say their piece
just got shot down
The Democrats did it in 2000 and 2016, no Senators for any of them
There was a Senator for one in 2004
One thing I find interesting. Is the line about it being the only form from the state. Which does give reasonable explanation for the vehicle of objecting. Ideally... not for political purposes.
Yeah that's what happened in 1876
Three states tried to set up multiple governments for the state that all claimed to be official and send electors
Civil War and all
I'm not sure there is a legal way for them to not continue on
More of "when" the recess ended.
I mean after earlier, continuing today and not tomorrow or something
I suspect the parliamentarian could find something but I don't think the 12th Amendment or the law (forget which one it is) has anything for delaying, they didn't think it would take long enough to matter
I was under the impression the special joint session continues over days unless they decide.
Could probably delay - but needs to be first item of any congressional action till complete. idk, no expert
Anything else would seem insane to me.
I guess the 12th at least also doesn't say they can't recess and pick it up tomorrow
i mean it probably wouldn't get taken to court unless the delay was percieved as political
Yeah that's what makes sense to me. They can't just end the session without deciding, but they can recess.
but i imagine at this point they just want this to be over with
and the n's and o's :p
pfft Ohio isn't real
and oregon doesn't even deserve a mention, clearly
not to mention nebraska, north dakota, north carolina, and maybe more
North Dakota shouldn't be real
north north
so, im kind of a noob, but, earlier y'all were saying senate will debate 2 hrs per state that objected. how many objected? do they debate anyway, even tho they are currently certifying? or do they only debate if the house reps for a state object and a senator concurs?
wasnt there a thing for north and south dakota to form 1 dakota
No if there is an objection signed by a member of both chambers they immediately move to debate
i see
Why is she objecting Michigan
So far that has only happened for Arizona
Sit down
because it flipped.
lol
imagine having as little shame as these representatives
they stand just to talk and get shot down
it's like they had a school project due that they half-slapped together the morning of
iirc in 2001 something like a dozen separate Democrats stood up to object to Florida but couldn't get a Senator
:(

lol
:(
lol
End of the day. There is no real qualifications to be a congress-person. They'll let anyone do it if they can persuade the populace to believe their lines. But that's all of politics...
don't they need to be a citizen for so long and a certain age
I think the most common profession is lawyer though
Yes. So basically be not dead.
yeah, but you can do that by being born in the US and doing a whole lot of nothing for however many years
You have to be at least 25, have been a citizen for at least 7 years, and live in the state you represent (not the district, although I think states can add that requirement?)
i've never watched a session of congress to count votes
and be rich
lots of repetition here
yeah they love their formalities
he hurting after that cheering
lmao. Makes me think of some thing that floated around the internet a few weeks ago. About sitting congress people getting prescriptions filled for alzheimer's medication, not sure if true but is scary to think about
he hurting after that cheering
I forgot how many M and N states there were
I guess they are standing just to make it formal that they had an objection, even without a senator to back it?
make sure trump doesnt spew hate to them on twitter probably
"ruin their "careers""
How would he do that? ๐
trutter coming late 2021
his account is suspended now
twitter but just trump
he'll just move to parler
New York should go back to its old name, New Amsterdam
he's just suspended for 12 hours though isn't he
I thought it was 12 hours once he removes the tweets
Unless he refuses to delete the tweets.
12 on twitter 24 on fb and 24 on instagram i believe
gotta set an alarm to remind me when he get's unbanned wanna see what happens
If he doesn't delete them, it's perm.
they can't delete it?
They did (kind of) but he has to go do it too

The tweets are gone right now
They "can". But by their own policies they won't
Or at least hidden unless you know the URL, haven't tried that
I've tried it
They're gone
If you go to the link, it just shows a page saying it's not available.
Here's the one where he was shit talking Pence https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1346900434540240897
ohio!
Oklahoma definitely isn't a real place
Well the footage is out now of that lady getting shot. Apparently she tried to climb through a window and pence was on the other side so they shot her.
I am not aware of any legal injunctions that would prevent those social media sites from removing content. Just their own policies restrict themselves from deleting public figure posts, to attempt to keep the platform available to reach the people whenever possible.
don't you know it takes 8 shots to get someone holding a snack
i guess if they get to guard pence they're better trained
She was an air force veteran and had posted stuff online prior claiming she was going to be doing all she could or something. I can find a source on that yet anymore.
or was it just a regular cop that shot her?
oh here we go
The better training is to shoot until you hear a click
Unless they get different training for dealing with a person in a crowd or something
Secret service wouldn't arm themselves with non-deadly force... (compared with having rubber bullets or similar)
Hawley you fucker
๐ฅด
ugh
idk why you wouldn't expect to get shot charging into the capital building, breaking a window, and trying to climb in
God damn it
they're all
to it
