Yeah I run a few things in VirtualBox and VMware and they've been fine on my boxes, which are decent speeds.
You can't just feed 8GB of RAM into the thing if you only have 8GB on your system, or if you have like 16GB but you're using 10 of it for something else. That'll choke stuff.
