I think if you try to follow the guideline of splitting your code into responsibilities, you will usually end up with something decent. If you want some keywords to Google, try high cohesion and low coupling. Those are generally the most prominent "mantras" to work by, because it allows you to build small components that you can piece together in different ways instead of having a huge mess of spaghetti code.

nossr I think my only input is that epubs are very good, but definitely don't get one if you expect all PDFs to be just as good, because they might not be. Probably worth sending some to someone who has one and ask them to take a photo compared to an epub so you can see for yourself.
