i have a simple question - i'm running a minecraft server for some folks I know, but haven't really played minecraft for years. Is it normal for a server to track latest pretty closely, even if users are using fabric mods local? Can older clients connect to newer servers (newer clients don't seem to be able to connect to older servers)? Will players have to update all of their local stuff each time there's a point release for minecraft? is this more annoying than downgrading a hypothetical new player's client?
