Yeah and most of the memory is block data stored in arrays

byte, bad programs can even make good plugins leak memory.

I'd suspect java might do better than some programs given it has compressed oops

acoustic pilot

@left yacht That statement holds true in any language that goes garbage collection for you

We even had mcMMO leaking because of stackmob.

limber knotBOT

stackmob eh

acoustic pilot

Changing languages to another automatically GC'd one doesn't change that fact.

tbh should just use reference counting

In Rust though you could have full control over your memory.

Java is fine if you work harmoniously with the GC, and that'll really hold true for any GC-based lang, otherwise your only other option is manual memory management.

Wow

heavy rapids
#

._.

left yacht
#

imagine going to the ER for insane pain, realize it's something minor (Which you had no idea it was minor) and getting a 50k bill.

acoustic pilot
#

Deductible. The amount you pay for covered health care services before your insurance plan starts to pay. With a $2,000 deductible, for example, you pay the first $2,000 of covered services yourself. After you pay your deductible, you usually pay only a copayment or coinsurance for covered services.
This is the reality for most Americans who have healthcare

heavy rapids
#

what if you can't pay a doctor's bill? you just go and die?

little ingot
#

Yeah I have an insurance excess on my car

acoustic pilot
#

No, legally you are required to be stabilized

#

The problem in America is preventive care

#

You can be refused for preventive care because it's not an emergency

#

And then eventually it turns into an emergency.

mine is 500 USD which is ok. I can afford that.

#

I can imagine how some people can't afford 2k though

I'm telling you why deductibles are higher or lower

sturdy fulcrum
#

My wife is an insurance agent so I get those deals

stiff yarrow
#

@acoustic pilot tbh isn't the high deductible plan the one that gives you the most coverage

acoustic pilot
#

Poor people get high deductible plans because the monthly premium is cheaper.

left yacht
#

nossr, uh they exist on both ends.

stiff yarrow
#

oh

acoustic pilot
#

No

#

The high deductible plans are the ones that cost peanuts each month

#

It's what poor people usually end up with

left yacht
#

but generally high deductible are what cause people to go into medical debt.

sturdy fulcrum
#

High deductible == lower premium because you pay more when you use it

left yacht
#

because some loophole exists

heavy rapids
#

._. I guess I gotta be glad I got a year's worth of painkillers for approx. 10 bucks

acoustic pilot
#

So you can understand the plight of the poor, when they get sick or need treatment

#

And they have a high deductible plan because they cannot afford the premium for a better plan

sturdy fulcrum
#

Most poor have Medicaid

acoustic pilot
#

That's not true.

left yacht
#

not if you live in flyover country ^

#

lotta gaps in those places.

acoustic pilot
#

Medicaid is low income federal program but it's up to the state to implement the program.

sturdy fulcrum

Or no insurance at all

acoustic pilot
#

And a lot of states don't implement it across the poor who really need it.

left yacht

it's a legal requirement to have insurance in america afaik.

#

otherwise you get a fee on your taxes

sturdy fulcrum

fallen oracle

sturdy fulcrum
#

Which is a good thing

#

Should be a choice

acoustic pilot
#

It's honestly not.

sturdy fulcrum
#

Not forced

acoustic pilot
#

California is looking to re-add the individual mandate at a state level, thankfully.

#

with 40 million people we can really put it to good use

left yacht
#

idk why you'd want it to be a choice.

#

You have insurance for the times you need it.

acoustic pilot
#

@left yacht The whole point of it was that it wasn't a choice, it doesn't work when it's a choice.

#

The point of the individual mandate falls apart when you make it optional.

sturdy fulcrum
#

I pay lots for health insurance and my whole family will always be covered but that doesn’t mean I think it should be forced

acoustic pilot
#

The individual mandate is designed to help subsidize health care for the poor, disabled, or otherwise inaccessible

#

If everyone can just choose to not pay that subsidy, it falls apart (like it is now)

sturdy fulcrum
#

Why should I pay for something I don’t want or need so it benefits you

It actually does, because I don't believe in total freedom.

left yacht

static badge
#

personally I prefer anarchy

acoustic pilot
#

The concept of total freedom is defined as anarchy, and the closer to edge towards it, the closer you move towards anarchy.

sturdy fulcrum
#

Total freedom != to socialism

#

Making people do things they choose not to do and then penalizing them because they opt out is not freedom

acoustic pilot
#

The reason for why is quite important.

sturdy fulcrum
#

For the sake of everyone

acoustic pilot
#

The reason is that we want everyone who is poor, disabled or sick to have health care without going broke.

#

I think that justifies the ends.

#

The means, rather

sturdy fulcrum
#

It doesn’t

acoustic pilot
#

To me it does, I guesss that's where we'd have to disagree.

sturdy fulcrum
#

If you live for everyone else you will never live for yourself. Sorry but if it were my daughter and neighbor and o has to pick I would choose my daughter

acoustic pilot
#

As a country we spend more on health care than any other country, we're highly inefficient in health care spending, we could nationalize the whole thing and run it better.

sturdy fulcrum
#

Not everyone lives above poverty and can afford to help others or benefit them

isn't 25% of ur country fat ass motherfuckers

acoustic pilot

sturdy fulcrum

Money doesn’t grow on trees and I work hard for mine

#

Even the preventive care that you pay for in the US is garbage

#

sturdy fulcrum
#

Because the people in charge don’t know what’s best or how to handle health care without it benefitting someone’s

Population control

#

U think they want to cure cancer

acoustic pilot

No, it's because health care in the US is entirely privatized and profit driven.

acoustic pilot

See what I mean?

#

TitanicFreak has no clue

He's disconnected from how taxes work

#

And thinks it's something that goes up or down variably

If you get a refund, it means you gave the government an interest free loan and they gave it back to you later.

sturdy fulcrum
#

I mean what tax we want to talk about. Sales / income / property

left yacht
#

never had a tax refund byte.

acoustic pilot
#

The money was always yours to begin with, you overpaid the government

left yacht
#

nor would I ever get one.

acoustic pilot
#

The refund is the government telling you "you overpaid this much in taxes"

#

And you got people celebrating their huge refunds

#

Like the dumbfucks they are

sturdy fulcrum
#

Not overpaid

acoustic pilot
#

Effectively a refund is a repayment by the government for an interest free laon.

#

loan, even.

sturdy fulcrum
#

But not overpayment

acoustic pilot
#

Yes it is an overpayment.

#

That's why it's called a refund.

#

When you consolidate your taxes in April, you report how much you earned, how much in taxes you paid, and the IRS comes back to you with a a refund if you overpaid, or they tell you to pay up if you underpaid.

#

It is entirely an overpayment, nothing else.

limber knotBOT
#

This makes me realise I know even less about the US tax system than I thought I did, and I didn't think I knew much

acoustic pilot
#

People who are really good with their taxes never owe or get a tax refund of -100 or +100 each year

#

If you got a $5000 refund, it means you're shit at paying taxes.

#

Stop giving the govt so much money.

sturdy fulcrum

sturdy fulcrum

Along with my married filing jointly status when filing and both of our w2

sturdy fulcrum
#

Not necessarily

pulsar wigeon
#

is it 20k?

#

curse used to report anything over $500 or something lol

acoustic pilot
#

Yeah the legal requirement for reporting to the IRS is 20k for financial institutions

pulsar wigeon
#

oic

acoustic pilot
#

For individuals filing taxes, you absolutely have to report it

#

Every single cent

pulsar wigeon
#

for financial institutions

acoustic pilot
#

Yeah

#

the 20k thing is for financial institutions

pulsar wigeon
#

and yea, you have to report everything, even if you are exempt from paying taxes on it

sturdy fulcrum
#

Not necessarily

acoustic pilot
#

Yes, you do

#

Even if you don't pay taxes on it, you have to report it

pulsar wigeon
#

lots of people just leave small things out tho cuz how will they know :^)

acoustic pilot
#

By the way, the IRS already has access to your money flow

#

You know that red flag you were talking about?

#

Not reporting income is one of those red flags.

pulsar wigeon
#

well, unless you're paid in cash

sturdy fulcrum
#

Yep but they also have access to what you spend

acoustic pilot
#

It doesn't matter

#

you have to REPORT what you spend

fallen oracle
#

You only have to report money you make from work, right? Like if Grandma slips you a 20, you can keep it on the down low, right?

acoustic pilot
#

if you're not reporting EVERYTHING you earn AND DEDUCT, then you're doing it wrong.

pulsar wigeon
#

technically you have to report that too glare

sturdy fulcrum
#

Lol let me find something real quick

pulsar wigeon
#

but that's one of things where no one will know

fallen oracle
#

Damn, grandma trying to get me audited.

acoustic pilot
#

It's not hard but it goes over the head of some people, for those I'd recommend a CPA

pulsar wigeon
#

there's literally a box on your tax forms that says "other income sources" or something

#

that's bday money, drug money, whatever

acoustic pilot
#

There is no situation that I can think of, besides cash, where you can omit income in your tax filing.

pulsar wigeon
#

doesn't matter where it comes from, if you have income, it has to be reported

acoustic pilot
#

Doing so is a no-no.

fallen oracle
#

Oh okay so you don't have to count cash? Then I should be good then. Grandma coming in clutch.

acoustic pilot
#

Well as soon as teh cash enters a bank account

pulsar wigeon
#

cash is just not very traceable so if it's under tax limits it won't get you audited

acoustic pilot
#

You better report it

pulsar wigeon
#

^^

acoustic pilot
#

But if you're storing it in a vault then whatever lol

sturdy fulcrum
pulsar wigeon
#

jesus

sturdy fulcrum

Haha

acoustic pilot
#

@sturdy fulcrum Point is if you aren't reporting ALL REVENUE then you've made a huge mistake.

wide chasm
#

Do you guys have to report gifts on your taxes as well?

sturdy fulcrum
#

I do

fallen oracle
#

Nah money from Grandma doesn't touch my bank, it gets spent on other stuff.

sturdy fulcrum
#

PayPal and all

pulsar wigeon
#

you have to report gifts, but gifts are generally tax exempt up to a very large amount

fallen oracle
#

So you have to report everything, but are you exempt if it's under a specific amount?

pulsar wigeon
#

yea

wide chasm
#

Oh, I don't even have to report gifts if they are under 2148 EUR per year per gifter.

acoustic pilot
#

The IRS doesn't mess around with that, they want to know every source of income

#

Not reporting would be considered "hiding" money

fallen oracle
#

My dog found a quarter in the dirt one day on a walk, I'll make sure to write up a paragraph on that for them.

acoustic pilot
#

Whether you pay taxes on that income is irrelevant, ofc

sturdy fulcrum
#

I’ve reported every transaction o have ever made thru paypal although it’s irrelevant

pulsar wigeon
#

you can get like 100k per year tax free from an individual without paying taxes on it. it's like 14k from a business tho?

#

don't really remember tbh

fallen oracle
#

I make like $10 a year so I should be good.

pulsar wigeon
#

and then there's uh, a 14 million lifetime cap on gifts

#

or something like that

sturdy fulcrum
#

So go preach to these server owners from the us

pulsar wigeon
#

gift limits are very high, but yea need to report them

fallen oracle
#

So the cap is how high it can go before you have to pay taxes on it?

sturdy fulcrum
#

I actually pay a lawyer who specializes in insurance to handle my filing

sturdy fulcrum

I'm 18, I don't think I'll have a house for a few years.

acoustic pilot
#

you can still rent apartments, buy a car, get a loan etc

sturdy fulcrum
#

I mean if you don’t have the credit to get what you want what’s the point

stiff yarrow
#

@sturdy fulcrum what line of work are you in

sturdy fulcrum
#

Pimp

acoustic pilot
#

He's 18, he's just building his credit history.

#

Most people are twice his age and have half his score.

sturdy fulcrum
#

And that’s good to be at 700

austere ivy
#

You build good credit by spending money on a credit card and then paying it back when they first say? Or is it immediately?

stiff yarrow
#

taking out a bunch of loans isn't really smarto though

fallen oracle
#

I'm more around 770, so, that's pretty good for building.

stiff yarrow
#

credit should be used sparingly

acoustic pilot
#

You build credit by paying your bills on time, paying your credit balance on time, etc

fallen oracle
#

Yup, I do it by credit card stuff.

austere ivy
#

BuT mY lAmBoRgHiNi

#

So just on little stuff that you know you have cash for?

sturdy fulcrum
#

But to secure loans and other things such as purchasing a new car with low apr you need credit

acoustic pilot
#

When paying your credit card it's really simple: every month, always pay the "Last Statement Balance" before the "Next Statement Date" -- your online banking should make this easy to do.

heavy rapids
#

I've never quite understood credit scores

acoustic pilot
#

If you follow that rule, you will easily build credit score on your credit card

heavy rapids
#

like it dictates the max loan you can take?

austere ivy
#

I think it just shows how good you are at paying credit back

sturdy fulcrum
#

Only use credit cards which you can afford to make the purchase with cash with

#

That’s the rule

acoustic pilot
#

True, but in general you should always use your credit card

austere ivy
#

And banks and credit unions don’t want to give someone money who won’t pay it back

acoustic pilot
#

As long as you do have the equivalent cash amount

sturdy fulcrum
#

If you have the cash to cover it

acoustic pilot
#

Because your credit card is one of the greatest ways to build credit

fallen oracle
#

The way we did it in my family is my parents (who both have a credit score above 800) added my name to a credit card and then that builds my score.

sturdy fulcrum
#

But can also put you in debt

#

And make you pay thousands more

austere ivy
#

My parents rule is to bring cash everywhere when they need it, use a credit card for rewards and stuff then pay it off immediately with cash In the store.

sturdy fulcrum
#

If you don’t do it right

acoustic pilot
#

Just portion some cash every month for your credit card spending

austere ivy
#

Which is my rule too.

pulsar wigeon
#

i use credit for everything except gas

#

but also pay off every month

acoustic pilot
#

Eventually you'll get used to it where you don't have to portion so aggressively

austere ivy
#

Always have cash for your credit.

acoustic pilot
#

but yes you should use credit card for everything

stiff yarrow
#

@heavy rapids credit scores are basically a rating system of how likely you are to hold up your end of a financial agreement

heavy rapids
#

I see

austere ivy
#

BYTEFLUX! He’s a bank shill! He wants you to use credit! Get him!!!

stiff yarrow
#

the dyslexia is strong with me

sturdy fulcrum
#

The thing that helped me is always treat the credit card as a debit card. If you don’t have the cash to cover the purchase, don’t use it

heavy rapids
#

it's all a bit strange to me

#

I don't even have a CC

acoustic pilot
#

Yeah you don't really wanna end up in debt

#

Using the CC is good, just don't treat it as free money lol

#

You have to pay it back

stiff yarrow
#

I literally pay my CC right when its available to pay

#

I don't wait

sturdy fulcrum
#

With interest

acoustic pilot
#

paying too frequently is not good either @stiff yarrow IIRC

sturdy fulcrum
#

Nope

acoustic pilot
#

that's why I always pay the last statement balance

stiff yarrow
#

@acoustic pilot can't be bad tho

acoustic pilot
#

once a month

sturdy fulcrum
#

Only pay when it’s due

acoustic pilot
#

which is the proven method

pulsar wigeon
#

i just have my bank automatically make a monthly payment for the current balance

acoustic pilot
#

nah due is bad too

sturdy fulcrum
#

No it’s not

pulsar wigeon
#

don't wait til it's due

austere ivy
#

“it isn’t free money”

every person 50000 in debt: “whAaAAaaaAaAat?!?!”

acoustic pilot
#

You can get slapped with interest on "due" because people some times only make the minimum payment

pulsar wigeon
#

pay when you get the bill or at some other regular date

stiff yarrow
#

idk, I haven't seen solid proof about this anywhere

sturdy fulcrum
#

Well I mean before or when it’s due

acoustic pilot
#

As long as you pay your outstanding balance before the next statement, you're golden

heavy rapids
#

I think I'll stick with cash

#

:P

acoustic pilot
#

But it should only have to be done once a month

stiff yarrow
#

yeah that's why I pay it right away

acoustic pilot
#

Pay off your card once a month

austere ivy
#

LordKorea, you get rewards and discounts with credit cards

acoustic pilot
#

Not 10 times a month

heavy rapids
#

brian, most places around here only accept cash lol

austere ivy
#

The only reason to use a credit card (for me) is to get rewards.

heavy rapids
#

rural flyspeck

sturdy fulcrum
#

Don’t spend more than 50% either

stiff yarrow
#

using it 10 times a month would be... difficult

ancient bolt
#

I pay my credit card 10 times a day

pulsar wigeon
#

:hyperthonk:

ancient bolt
#

Brian you're not even old enough to legally have a credit card

austere ivy
#

Oh, around here, EVERY store has their own card that if you use with them, you get cool discounts and stuff.

stiff yarrow
#

@austere ivy its for credit building mostly

fallen oracle
#

I don't even think I use my credit card 10 times a month.

sturdy fulcrum
#

Utilization is a big thing as well when building credit

ancient bolt
#

Also you thought $200 was a huge amount of money

acoustic pilot
#

You wanna have like a 15-20% utilization rate on your card, IIRC.

austere ivy
#

For spending on Minecraft, sure.

stiff yarrow
#

did I miss a conversation where Brian was blown away by 200 dollars

fallen oracle
#

Luckily my parents use the card too so that counts up.

sturdy fulcrum
#

So they pay it

#

Good parents helping you build credit

fallen oracle
#

Correct.

#

Good parents also letting me come to the lake this summer.

sturdy fulcrum

sturdy fulcrum

austere ivy
#

Also, @ancient bolt, where I'm currently living (Colombia), 200$ is a lot of money. A person's wage for the day is 10$ (30000 cop), so 200$ is months of saving because they also have to pay, you know, rent, and food.

#

Even if they didn't have t pay rent, and food, they would have to save for 20 days just to get 200$.

Cityweebstret it is a fact that 98.4% of people who live in Sweden are gay. Thats cool. Reason is that everybody with 1g of manliness moved to the USA back in about 1910.

@heady spear Tbf i wouldn’t even recommend copenhagen

Not really that into the history etc. I only like it due to alcohol and me living here and getting free stuff

heady spear
#

🤔 I mean yeah, I get that

limber knotBOT
#

What I did was save-off and then make a crontab that will do a save-all once every 3hours. Players get a msg "will be lag in 10sec" before the poop hits the fan.

using tmux to inject the msg

finite wave

That’s broken english

limber knotBOT

heh

heady spear

yeahsure u do

limber knotBOT

Just /save-off then start the game in tmux. Then set up a crontab like 0 */3 * * * /usr/bin/tmux send-keys -t minecraft 'say Scheduled maintenance in 3min. May cause a few minuets of minor lag.' ENTER
