anyways, @ancient bolt, you mentioned nothing joins QM and GR. string theory comes really close. but there one piece of the puzzle its missing. the graviton. the graviton doesnt fit in string theory. this, to me (and a few others) make it wrong. while its popular, for sure, its just wrong. the E8 theory everything literally just fits into the model, including the graviton. it joins QM and GR very beautifully. no idea why its not as popular as string theory, but its got my vote as the leading theory right now.

String theory isn't just "wrong" - maybe if it's tweaked correctly it will also link them perfectly. Newton's 3 laws are also "wrong", but that's because physics is only a model. You can very well have 2 different models that describe precisely the same physical process. So physics is a model, and physics is also an estimation. I've never heard of E8, which tells me it has serious flaws for the larger physics community to not be taking it seriously (yet, at least). If it really does link QM and GR perfectly and simply, then that would be world changing. So it sounds to me like there are huge issues with it that are preventing it from making progress (again, yet). Both E8 and ST could be "correct" models of reality, but likely neither is. but maybe they could get closer than current models in some aspects, which we can use to learn from and further our understanding of our other models. The truth is QM and GR are also just models - it's not like the universe actually cares about QM or time dilation w/e, if you were clever enough you could come up with different models that describe them (I don't remember when it's called but there's a different model that describes QM completely different than QM but is ultimately describing the same physical processes)
