- Cirroc Lofton!
- Small bits of character development
- Tawny Newsome guest star
- SAM being comfortably blunt, it almost had 7 of 9 vibes
- lots and lots of Sisko tidbits
Disliked
- the barely extant B-plot
- the Fourth wall tapping cold-open
- khionians puke glitter, this is just stupid
I was expecting some payoff to that b plot, but the doctor being so earnestly eager to run the ceremony for his friends and teach them about one of his hobbies was very charming
The B-plot felt tacked on at the last moment
Like they needed something throwaway that wouldn't take away from the rest of the episode.
The academy staff clearly needed something to do
I choose to assume lura thok was absent because she was prepping the replicator for turducken
The Dax symbiont is officially 1177 years old. Not accounting for any cryogenic or time travel shenanigans.
Which is a little odd, another symbiote that was around in the dominion war was apparently incredibly elderly in the 32nd century, but maybe it was already middle aged in the dominion war whereas the Dax symbiote was comparatively sprightly
Well, Dax was born in 2018, so only a bit over 300 when the Dominion War was happening.
The eldest known Trill before that was in S5 of Discovery and they were in their 800s.
eldest known to us, or was called eldest known in universe, because this is around the same time as Disco S5 (maybe a bit later on but not a ton, right?) and that immediately puts Dax as a chunk past
Tawny Newsome did great and the Dax reveal was great. Cirroc did a fantastic job.
Eldest know to us
I can't find any info on exactly how old the box symbiote is but it was apparently reaching as old as a symbiote can be, and was at least 800 years old
The dax symbiote is over 1100 years old, so unless the bix symbiote had some kinda medical condition that shortened its lifespan, the party worm has gotta coming up on the last dance
I was wondering about Trills being around as people who remember the old days. Can't all be Lathanites...
Avery brooks having a voice cameo made me really miss DS9
So the lines from brooks at the end are actually from one of his spoken word albums, but presumably he had to give his permission for it to be used
And cirroc lofton did ask for avery's permission before accepting the role
Yeah and they’re wonderful.
dang, this was actually great, and I want to be excited for the rest of the season but it's not like they can tie every episode to DS9
I'm a bit confused about SAM, she's a photonic but she's not the same "species" as her makers, right? So this is kinda like if humans decided to send Data to be an emissary and have him relay how other species views humans. It doesn't seem like SAM's experiences as a human-looking hologram would be relatable to a photonic jellyfish.
I think she is the same species
Don't forget El Aurians.
I forgot El Aurians...
I think I prefer episode 4, just because I relate more to the themes of masculinity and alienation more than the weight of expectations and trying to connect with a legacy themes of this one, but they're both damn fine trek
So did the writers after Picard S2, dont worry.
Tawny and Cirroc discuss the making of the episode. I'm gonna need some tissues, y'all. 😢 https://youtu.be/COctI55NI4g?si=0PYoEe8I2cYIiV8z
