Surprised no one beat me to this.

I think they've got the characterization of MB down. I definitely sympathize with being the introvert in a room full of extraverts. I remember having to play white noise in my ears in the break room when I worked at staples. One guy almost lost his phone when he kept trying to shove some meme in my face.

anyways. It's been a while since I listened to the audiobooks so I don't actually quite remember where this is exactly going so that's neat.

My one complaint is that honestly... they made him too easily pass for human. The books made it clear that you could tell he wasn't quite human.

Just a note that when creating spoiler threads, the first post should be generic because it shows up in the list of threads. Nothing too spoilery there, so it’s fine here, but just wanted to mention that.

#

and yeah, I don’t know quite how you’d address the human thing.

wheat obsidian
#

it something that made him stand out more and separate him from the people, but we've seen he can just... 100% look human if he needs to.

I've never read or heard the books, do they have the same vaguely "Outer Worlds" vibe I get from this show?

spare sky
#

the show has been largely fairly accurate to the books as far as plot

brave mist

I feel that he takes his helmet off too often, but that is so they can show off the actor

wheat obsidian
#

They should have robocopped him

(having not seen the show yet) I disagree with that last point. ||Yes murderbot had to change its bone structure and learn to walk different to pass as human, but that was less to other humans and more to surveillance algorithms that knew the skeletal structure of secunits and how they walked.||I do think it should have more obviously augmented bits ,but i get that's a pain in the ass makeup-wise.

On the show itself, I'm surprised the character in media I've related to the most in ages is Murderbot. I get the "please just leave me to my shows right now, I don't want to human" energy.

Also eye contact being somewhat uncomfortable unless I'm already comfortable with the person

(read the books :p)

I have to save my friends!
Oh
And Gurathin
If there's time

wheat obsidian
#

they do not seem to understand the concept of an introvert
also, I feel like the one person does not actually want to be in a 3 person relationship

#

I'm getting the vibes when people I'm no longer friends with tried to 'fix' my introversion.

brave mist
#

It was set up as awkward, and not everyone on board, so yeah

Season 2: an ART project

brave mist

I've been trying to remember the ship name, thank you!

boreal minnow
#

Did they address re-disabling his governor module? Or are we meant to assume they did that when they manumitted him from the Corp?

blazing onyx
#

They didn't. Presumably when Murderbot got it's memories back it remembered how to hack its governor module.

wheat obsidian

man, there are some people real horny for robots in this world

good finale, good show

#

Like the books (and show) are pretty light weight and fun but fun is fun so that's ok

spare sky
#

they changed some of that ending from the books

And started the second book

I think I read somewhere that the show-runners are aware of the complaints of the episode length and might also be including stuff from the third book to pad things out. ||Probably it'll mostly be the PresAux humans prepping their lawsuit against The Company.||

boreal minnow
#

"We're heard you didnt like the episode lengths, good news! Half as many episodes!"

mild musk
#

Honestly that would have been better

#

The story was perfectly long enough, but the episodes felt like they stopped just when they got going
