Common issues such as getting "Authentication timeout", EAC errors or game constantly crashing can usually be solved by verifying integrity of your Rust game files and then restarting your computer.

Follow these steps: (also shown in a gif below)
Close your Rust
Navigate to your Steam's Library section
Right click on Rust
Click "Properties"
Navigate to "Local Files"
Click "Verify integrity of game files"
Wait until the process is done
Restart your PC as doing this helps to fix a lot of other Rust issues you may be experiencing

The biggest influence on the server performance is the amount of player placed entities; this includes bases, walls, etc. The more player placed entities there are on the map the less performant the server is. This means the longer into the wipe, the less people can join the server. If we were to ignore the server performance and increase slots, it means everyone will start lagging.
