wym, it only took 3 weeks to build after 3 months of RnD
how?
the red cards are PCIe x4 to U.2 carrier cards for the micron 7300s
ah, makes sense
the memory is a weird story
you need at least four of these for quad cpu configs, the DDR3 model only supports 8XXX v1/v2 cpus. Each of these costs about $36 each
what board even is that
the DDR4 version costs about $1000 each, but somebody decided to buy the DDR3 memory cards and paired them with the v3/v4 (ddr4 supporting) processors and it works because the memory controllers are the same
god...
so the silver things in the picture are the memory controllers, each card gets two
ah
i still wanna know what board that is, never seen a board that supports 4 cpus like that
the motherboard is an x10qbi
they exist only because they hold high amounts of memory
it's a proprietary 19 inch x 17 inch form factor and it only fits in this case and the original server rack
interesting, on my short amount of probably wrong research, seems affordable, besides the board
crazy.
you also better be ready to drill your own mounting holes lol
EEEATXL
EEEATXL+
where do those even go
in between the gpu?
there are no gpus, those are the memory cards
wait what...
no gpus yet*****
it's honestly a game of 7d chess with hardware price per dollar
Multi thread perf is about the same as a threadripper 3970x and I paid $340 total for my CPUs. You can get them for $30-50 each now
hm, how many sticks of ram is there in there
I really wanted the pcie lanes for a deep learning box and this was also the cheapest ways to get them
fair enough, i was also looking at getting a threadripper, but started leaning over toward the 5950x
if you need single thread, don't buy this platform, the fast single thread cpus cost hundreds of dollars each
wanted alot of cores and alot of lanes, but dont want to pay sum 5000 usd for a 3990x
i would have seperate machines
interesting
so how much was it in total
I wanted to get into VMs and this was built for it. I paid $2400 total not counting the case
it's the price of one threadripper 3970x
yeah
I bought four of those MEM1 cards, and got 24 sticks of 8GB Rdimms for around $1.10/GB
i took a look at the board and it seemed like there was more room for more boards?
you can have two memory cards PER cpu
they will make most of your pcie slots inaccessible without riser cables however. You will be able to double your memory bandwidth tho
72 ram slots 😂
I laugh at casual threadripper owners
about 500 usd to get ram for all of that, 572gb
that's really cheap lol
it is
I suppose 8gb rdimms are unusable in every other system lol
got my ddr4 128 for 602
probably, as they want higher capacity
you need the MEM2 cards for DDR4 in this thing
which they don't exist as far as I can tell because they are still in use
I read somewhere that these systems are deployed on ohio class nuclear submarines
mfs hoggin all the ddr4
save some for the rest of us
I got arch linux installed today and I intend on being able to host a 10 person lan party with csgo virtual machines
ez 60 fps
I intend on getting a4000s in the near future and splitting them
not bad
im probably gonna either get my friends 10980, or end up getting a 5950x, all the other options are just not worth it for me
running 3090s with a 10980 would be painfully bottlenecking
hahaha
they are just refreshed 6th gen HEDT if I'm not mistaken
he runs 2
i run 2 on a 11900k, still just as painful, but just wishing i had more cores
not exactly sure
it was convincing to do something like you did till the ddr3 part and the most likely pcie 3
are you passing through to a second vm or rendering 3d videos for only fans?
5950x is where its at for you
wish i could have 2 instances of windows, splitting the 5950x so i could use 2 vr headsets on the same pc
I just installed arch linux from a livestream vod of SomeOrdinaryGamer from a year ago. It does passthrough and has great support for virtualization
would it be possible to vm windows with gpu?
yeah people do it for gaming on arch linux
interesting
your 1-5% performance loss will be unnoticeable with 3090s
I think having to run them both on 8 lanes is hurting perf more
yeah, its not as bad as pcie 3.0 8x
it could be worse, the performance is still outstanding
it's just running them in pcie 3.0 x16 so it can't be that bad
you would only "struggle" in heavy rendering tasks that are memory intensive
in some cases, but still really didnt see much of a drop in performance when i went from 16x to 8x
it was there though
do you have a use for nvme ssds running pcie 3.0 with 4 lanes or 4.0?
this is actually a really good deal
hahah was looking at that before you posted your computer
two full bandwidth 3090s + full bandwidth storage and more memory capacity
i dont actually know what they run at, i have a raid card running at 4.0 4x i assume off the chipset
would be amazing
raid card?? You are running sas cables to your storage? Based
nah nah nah, came with my motherboard, nvme 4.0
or you mean those m.2 carriers?
yeah those
aaaaah the gigabyte one?
yes.
I snagged one for $40 a year ago and I gutted it for the thermal pads and copper coldplate for my gpu
lol
i sent mine in for rma and it took them 3 months
that's what it is from
oh lmao
well its not that one i dont think unless you cut it off
its the one that holds 2 drives
ah you have the mini one
yup came with the z590 xtreme
its bad
it really is that fucking old
yeah thats why i was only gonna use it if i could get it from my friend for free
wait mine is actually better O_O
ah nvm, I looked at the wrong site
3960x has more features than the 10980xe arguably
cough cough pcie 4
88 iirc?
I think so
I thought it had more mem channels too but I'm not sure
i dont think so
I think above 64 is the epyc
ah the epyc have 8 channel
threadrippers didn't which is sad but whatever
yeah but the single thread is dogwater
yup.
you may as well buy a 1700x and call it a day
I just have a less power efficient epyc system tbh
how much do you pull from the wall
full cpu load was 1300W with prime95 according to the kilowatt. Fortunatley, this thing is idling most of the time because I don't do CPU intensive things
not bad
the memory cards are worse than the cpus
i do 1100 with gpu load and 1350 something with cpu too
i would believe so
just based on the amount of power pins on their connectors you can assume that
just looked... yeaaaa
my goal is to split this bad boy into two dual cpu systems and map the numa nodes or four single cpu systems. From there I would add in the appropriate amount of GPUs and market it as a remote access deep learning machine
do a little mining in the mean time perhaps
cpu mining? lol
gpu and hard drive mining
was gonna say
I would be better off buying shares of enron than cpu mining
cpu mining is unprofitable
I dumped my msrp 3060 ti's for $1337.69 on ebay and I've been waiting to buy back in
did some hard drive mining in the mean time and learned about servers
all of them for 1337 or
I already ROI'd on them anyway
same, i was mining with it for 6 months something
I sold my 2080 super for 750 and bought two 5600XTs which I used to buy two 3060 ti's
i bought a 6600xt and scalped it for 120 us over i feel so bad lol
then I sold both 5600xts and 3060 tis plus my mining ROII
walked into micro center to grab some ssds and found out it was launch day
nice lmao
stonks
I think the gpu mining market is ewaste
pcie 1x links for GPUs is sad and useless
motherboards with a billion pcie 1x slots or 20 USBs that can't be used like normal usbs are sad
"bitcoin boards"
it's the reason why I bought this thing
I want to be able to pivot from mining to whatever I want in a heartbeat
yeah me too, i just want a system thats good at everything
yeah that's why I put my gaming pc and my mining server in the same chassis. We are basically the same but I'm poorer lol
can't afford to buy into one system
oh wait its a dual system?
yeah lmao
didnt even see
it's on the other side
yeah, it's not really the star of the show
tricking people into thinking your ram is your gpus, is
nobody expects it
i mean especially from the lower quality picture
android moment
i just realized that I own a strange amount of government-contracted computer hardware
I have another system that is decom right now, trying to find a pic
IBM Cloud Object Storage Slicestor 3448
snagged it for $350 on facebook marketplace
the chassis?
what the, what kind of ebay are you on
ah yes, selling governmental computer hardware on facebook marketplace
completely normal
Heres mine while im at it
they can come and take it from my cold dead hands
lol
very cute
I did the research into how much rad space I would need to do that for 8 GPUs and 4 xeon cpus and it turns out my TT W200 case can fit just enough that it would probably be better than air by a few degrees while being the worlds most profitable space heater
i used to run dual thin 360 in the h710i
felt small, and i thought it was heavy till i switched to this
weighs like 75 pounds
only 75 pounds O_O
what do you mean only...
I'm surprised the casters on my pc haven't broken yet
lets do the math quick
I'm gonna ignore my gaming pc because it has a 240mm aio and that would be unfair
"unfair" cries in 60mm 480mm
I actually have always wanted to calc this, give me a moment while I find product weight
i put it on the scale
almost done
"quick math"
4x1.41 lbs (4x NH-U12 i4 coolers)
11x1.5 lbs (11x 8/14TB HDDs)
3.65 lbs (Corsair RM850X)
3 lbs (HP server PSU+breakout board)
1.8 lbs (240mm Corsair Capellix AIO)
3.0 lbs (Supermicro X10QBi mobo)
4x5.5 lbs (Memory card w/ ram installed)
63.7 lbs (Thermaltake Core W200)
ignoring everything else in build
Total: 119.29 lbs not including case fans, 5 cpus, cables (oml so many), gaming rig HDDs, HDD mounting brackets, 1050 ti, quadro m400 with 2lb copper coldplate installed, and all of my tears still trapped inside the chassis while I built it
last part is relatable
yeah
your tears can still be used tho
this happened twice
tear cooled pc
mayonnaise as thermal paste, don't look it up
pun intended
true
LOL
frosted tubes with translucent liquid and white leds are my dream
hard to build, ez to manage
cpu lore
did oyu just run that through handbrake lol
oml
lol
"you didn't have to cut me off"
-every flagship GPU ever
hey, they did make the 3000XT series
They remove symbols
except dashes apparently
no.
yes.
this was the title rest in piss
any nvidia gpu:
have a carpet texture
thanks, I'll use that for my patreon content rendered in blender cycles on cpu
ha no
fair enough
but according to GPU lore, your 20000 parallel cuda cores is no match to my 144 independently-operating threads
hmmmm
architecture issue
lmao
blender moment
I only square up to treadrippers in perf/$
don't even get me started on pcie lanes and ram capacity
lol
120 lanes btw humble brag wowowow owned threadripper owners get poorshamed by the poor
lmao
just gonna send this to your dms so I don't get banned, found it in my favorites
alr lol
and this all started because I couldn't afford a threadripper 3970x
