OR instead of trading glass and metal for glorified cardboard, get a desk mat big enough to cover the entire desk, and add a cable sleeve [securing this with tape under the edge of the table], or raceway right at the edge of the table. Assuming the desk mat is big enough, the transparency of the table shouldn't be an issue anymore.
