#Intel 12th Generation Launch
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
are we discussing it here?
intel housefire inside
yay
might be the first time I've ever used this feature
contain the fire i guess
nice it puts both chats up
kind of off-putting
Is there any info on the cooling solution used in the grahic you linked @fringe wasp ?
You don't have to keep discussion in here, but I figured having a space dedicated to the launch might be good when #techdiscussion moves onto other topics.
LTT used Noctua DH-15.
pretty much the best air cooler?
thanks wormwood
Intel's going to have to have a talk with them
haha
they're the ones who linked the video lol
on intel insider discord
ya lol
wait, it's intel employees that pushed it?
What time is release or is it already released?
i thought they were just random people
wait nvm it was the r/intel discord i think
theres a ltt leaked video
if you're gonna post it, at least put it up for more than 2 seconds
i didnt delete it
@timber heraldwhile it was technically released, public links to that are a no-go until after the embargo.
yeah MrP sent it
well thank fuck these are all being shared privately
aww ok
shush
I ain't fucking scared, I co-ran /r/VesselRips when that was a thing
I wanna see the Intel 12th Gen CPUs with DDR4, that's going to the most compelling value question
hmm ya the ltt leaked vid is like an clue to whats coming
I mean told me *****
oh shit
DDR5 ram is up in NZ
pbtech.co.nz "Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 32GB DDR5 RAM 5200 MHz
it ain't good
NZD$600 after tax for 32GB
not the whole thing, ig we just have to wait for in depth reviews, unless someone else leaks another vid
even a basic 8GB dimm is NZD$122 after tax
https://pp.co.nz/product/u/adata-8gb-ddr5-4800-ram-dimm-lifetime-wty-p-n-ad5u48008g-r-/AB12061/
Get full specs and buy Adata 8GB DDR5-4800 RAM DIMM Lifetime wty - (p/n: AD5U48008G-R) from Paradigm PCs
just remember all NZ ticket prices include the 15% sales tax
whistles
even then wont it be 300usd or something
Ooof, starting $170 USD for 16 GBs of DDR5 memory: https://www.newegg.com/p/pl?cm_sp=CAT_Memory_1-_-VisNav-_-Desktop-Memory_2&N=100007611 601396890 601275375 601275378&Order=1
god damn
that's a big kick in the nuts
i guess we just have to use ddr4 boards
holy crap ram prices in australia is so high
Look, I'm just happy I didn't have to stay up till 2am for the benchmarks like the other times
ah hello
i mean you still need to wait for in depth benchmarks
just wake up at time
fuck that
Daily remindern
Dont get ddr4 on alder
This is similar to SDR>DDR
Generational leap
I'll believe that when I see the DDR4 benchmarks
you have a 12th gen chip?
Friend does
And has tested both
But I want to see launch day reviews
Architecturally ddr4 is a massive.bottleneck
Starves cores of.memory bandwith
I personally just feel like I'd majorly hate myself if I were to get a new CPU/Chipset only to stay on DDR4. Seems quite short sighted to me
just realized the ddr5 linus used was cl38...?
Yeah, it's the first releases of DDR5, it's not going to be the most opitmized
Takes time to figure out how to manufacture it well
what do you expect 6000mhz cl20 ?
I mean it's new stuff, people are learning
hmm ya
no
the 12600k looking like a pretty value cpu
wonder how the non k cpus like 12400 will be like in terms of price to performance....
12900K for $1500 USD, come and get it! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09FXDLX95?tag=pcpapi-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1
oh my god
nah mate
how much is it supposed to be, 700usd?
About that
any reviews yet? lol
1 hour and 10 Minutes

eh, not TOO hot for gaming atleast. + that idle power consumption is pog
like 10W vs AMD's 50W
where is the idle power

Reviews are out
This review of the Intel Core i9-12900K CPU (Alder Lake) includes benchmarks versus AMD’s R9 5950X, 5900X, and more. Intel is gunning for position as the best CPU.

reviews might be out, but decent DDR5 supply doesn't seem to be, at least in my country
not even available at all here lol
can find 12600k's for like $400
I got 32GB of DDR5 yesterday
They're shit sticks but I got em
especially since apparently the price was raised
CPU and Motherboards seem to be available at MSRP, just RAM seems hard to come by
cheapest z690 is the z690 UD ddr4 for $230
targeting the 12600k + Z690 UD DDR5 personally
I'm waiting to get my 12900k for like $300 eventually
UD seems to be a great value pick according to TPU
what do you need to cool the 12600k?
gotta offset these mobo cost
oh man the cheapest z690 ddr5 mobo here is $420
choncky air cooler or a 240mm aio or more
so something like the se 207 or peerless assassin
for an i5
yea...
If you game and don't push the power limits you should be fine with a mid tier cooler I think
who doesn't push power limits
I mean, it looked to pull less watts during gaming according to LTT
eh a $50+ air cooler probably will work
the peerless assassin should cost less
yeah
https://global.deepcool.com/products/Cooling/cpuaircoolers/AK620-High-Performance-CPU-Cooler/2021/13067.shtml have considered something like this, someone said earlier that it should be compatible
Fuma 2 probably should also handle it fine
looks kind of sick
i'd be worried if it can't
boards in the uk are going to be an issue.
TPU has the 12600k running at 66° on a U14S, Fuma 2 shouldn't have any issues
same situation here, also 12600k's are going for about $400
that's not a mid tier cooler for a "mid tier" cpu
looks a bit better over here
yea this is going to be a problem
and ram?

thats the cheapest bundle
damn
yeah, that's the issue, none available on Mindfactory thus far
the board cost are honestly the biggest issue for ADL
5600x is obsoleted by 12600k except the boards cost a minimum of like $200 more
Honestly, I'm not in a hurry, so might as well wait for more stuff to become available
don't really feel like buying some random RAM kit out of desperation
why not wait for zen 3d or b660
because both are considerably far away and noone has a clue how prices will look
these kits were like half the price of anything else lol

cuz I already expect zen 3d to have a startig price of $1000
how much did you pay for them?
that's depressing
it was like $58 for 8GB. I got 32GB but Amazon returns are EZ af
seems reasonable overall. I'll probably just wait a few weeks and hope CPU availability won't be an issue
yea but like the price for it apparently went up already.
It's a bottom barrel kit but it was already increased by $10
in what load? In gaming i thought it used less power than a 5900x
blender
Power consumption is always a shit show to measure
According to GN 12900k used less power than a 5950x in blender
Power benchmarks are always a shitshow
you guys reckon an AK620 can properly cool a 12600K?
probably
it shouldnt be that hard to cool
not $30 air coolers but shouldnt require something like a D15
There are legit great $40 air-coolers tho, like pa120
Something high end can still be cheap
Be intel
Release new CPU that is faster in gaming than AMD at a better value
Stock up .055%
Be AMD
Exist
Stock up 3.5%

Zen 3d january???

If it can't I'd be surprised
I'd very much hope so
yeah AK620 is £50 here, from the testing i've seen is pretty similar to an NH-D15
the AS500 is £35 but i'm not so keen on the looks
@hasty dragon sus Aegis in BApO
When launch?
Look man
Major launch
I might just show up
I look at the benchmarks and go back into my hole
When i9 12900k com out
depends if there is stock, right @hasty dragon
today.
Ayy
any benchs yet?
No but based on 12600K
It's looking tasty
Idk how ddr5 oc is gonna pan out but adl is a great start
If it is just the 12600k without oc capabilities and e cores, should it perform similarly in gaming?
800 pound for a base 12600k mobo bundle is a little harsh
Yea
That's such a ripoff
Idk what ddr5 pricing is looking like either
I heard it's about 2x ddr4, not worth the performance difference for now
Real and raw paranoid man
That guys channel is as bad as the clickbaiters. Worse probably since
also not happening lol.
I'm pretty sure they're gonna do the 3d cache for Ryzen 9 only for consumers and I'm almost certain its gonna be a $1000 starting price
simply because of the complexity, the extra die space, extra processing, and all the dead chips that go along with that new process
Yep
5950x MSRP is $800
not even
5900xt 1000 min
5950xt still has plenty of room to move up between TR
wasn't the last cheapest TR like $1600?
Theu have no incentive to price.5950xt anywhere close to 5950x
5950x sells out easily
Idk
yes so 5900xt $1000, 5950xt $1350
there wasn't competition for 5950x because amd priced it so high
I'm just out here trying to upgrade my i5 3570K and DDR3-1600 RAM
But DDR5 seems pretty unattainable and the cheapest Z690 mobo with modern IO is 300 dollars
Wondering if I should just buy a 12600K now to avoid any shortages.
And wait for the rest to go down in price and become available.
No buy it all at the same time
interesting, i watch his tech news regardless of what the title's about, do you have any channel recommendations for tech news? i don't feel like reading
either GN or HUB for tech news videos for me but I dont really use video for news
prefer reading

Is this thread going to be reopened?
they don't do it daily unfortunately
i wish they did
There isn't enough valid tech news within a segment to really make videos about daily
yeah, i want to know the rumors
i just get daily rumours in my google feed
Here's a rumor. Amd 3d cache isn't worth it
Hmm
Cache is important, but more cache doesn't mean free performance in all workloads.
Otherwise my old Broadwell Xeon would be performing even better than it does, though it's cache does help.

LOL why
does this graph make any sense
well for one, there are other outlets that do record a few % of difference between 10 and 11 in MT tests
but GN's results show 10 being faster, or on par across the board
so what is exactly 11's scheduler doing then
I can cherry pick data too
Steve straight stated R15 results are not normal tho
I know.
throughout the tests 11 vs 10 is basically... no difference
not that I have a problem with it
I'm just wondering how
its a feature update.
I was referring to the supposed scheduler
it might help power usage
and not touch performance
Thats just one source for what he test tho. I think hwu shows win10 has some issues in some apps
And why are you posting cinebench? It either uses one core or all the cores so whats the scheduler doing there?
Which is why I said that others saw a difference but GN doesn't
HUB demonstrated a 5% loss in multicore
But you posted single thread cb
Win11 scheduler helps determine whether to use e or p cores
If a load is using 100% of all cores, I doubt it's going to show demonstrable differences
Thread director must be better than we thought
That makes a lot of sense I guess
I think a while ago inread that thread director does prioritize the P cores, then ecores, then virtual cores
So to see the value you have to be doing something that uses more than 8 threads fully but not all threads
'cept for wattage
