#windows 11
1 messages ¡ Page 1 of 1 (latest)
đ´ââ ď¸
but i dont wanna be behind an OS
I'll wait until it actually comes out
and even then I'll likely still use windows 10
even w 5yr support
maybe I'll try it with my old pc first
likely not everyone will get it on the 5th though, I imagine they will do a phased rollout
@cold pawn they did say now that they will allow people like you to install w11
Hopefully this works in my new gaming laptop
what gen CPU?
LMAOOO "people like me" RYZEN 1ST GEN RIGHTS
Then yay
Win10 will be supported until 2025, right?
yeah but it doesnt auto update
Ryzen 7 4800H
fully expected, the windows update will be triggered over time, or able to be forced.
Yes @amber carbon
you need to update yourself i think
Fuck it, not going to bother being Microsoft's test platform.
and idk if that means update through iso or idk
Might* not, aka in Microsoft speak it will
buying new hardware for the new OS is
LMAOOO IK but i really want it
lets be real Microsoft wants everyone to stay updated
I did the beta and rolled back, really not sure about moving early, christmas might be the play
also im in a long need of an upgrade
1st gen is like not fast enough for me anymore
imma give it to my family pc
and get a 3600 for myself
(maybe 3700 bc apparently those are a real thing)
i thought it only went to 3600
Now I wonder if 5th gen i3 5005u will run windows 11
as in ryzen 5 3600?

3700 is OEM
yep
dk what that means LMAO
3rd gen goes to ryzen 9's afaik...
means you can't get it separate. it only comes with prebuilts
can't go into a store and buy it
not on the compatible list
yes
not a 3700x?
amd has 5000 series
wait also i gotta check my bios version to see if a 3600 will work
WHAT?????
damn
as well as the oem ones
i gotta google if bios f50d will work w newer ryzen chipsets
might be worth a read,.
wait can someone ping adminmail?
@hardy bluff
fuck.
LMAO
ok nevermind
you asked for it
ruh roh
So Iâm gonna get a new laptop
ok nevermind
bots dont work?
it's here in the channel
not all, that can go on the list but not urgent
@sacred wren
?parrote
,ping
Shard: 3
Pong!
Time: 97ms
A 1660 Ti omen should work
,gg
giaus works thats all that matters, and windows 11...
not sure if thats worth, if youre gonna get a new CPU anyways, you might as well get a 5600x and a new board
so it works in dms just not here?
well from what I'm getting it can read messages to dm you but not send messages here or something
not yet, it's in beta
windows 11 is I mean
i mean like the pc health check app not win11
not sure
a new mobo is an extra $100, making total $500, so a bit too much soz
cad?
or something?
oh wait aud?
yeah oof
@amber carbon yeah I'll wait a bit before I update to make sure it works with all my software and set up a redundancy for the FDE key
i feel like these thread things would be more helpful in the build advice channels for one-on-one advice
but it probs mean more mods needed
bc a thread is basically a mini channel
agreed, but it we let it out to the entire server then... well, chaos
It would be pretty much impossible to moderate, and there would be wayy to much threads
LMAO
- harder to counter bad advice

honestly it wasn't even that bad of an idea /s
FDE doesn't get flipped on
Hey, a channel in a channel.
Yes
welcome to the #882622148122927204 zone
It doesn't?
haha windows 11 thread go fuckin brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

windows eleven
windoes 11 is great
wait arent win 11 have to turn on some security shit on mobo
prob should look into it
ftpm i believe unless u have tpm thingy
Upgrade your cpu for windows 11
ive decided im probs not gonna do that
bc like
broke
Sell cpu
but my manager said she'll give me more shifts so maybe i will
And mobo
Buy 10400F

you could get a supported 2600 for like... $120?
that is well below minimum wage where I live
LOL im 15 though
and on saturday pay is higher
i get like $11 hourly
min here is 13.50/hr
for 15 or 18
AFAIK USA does not base it on age
LOL
the only big thing is if it is a tipped job
they base it on age here, so then not only is it cheaper for employers, but also so then younger kids get thrown into the capitilistic system earlie- i mean they get experience
i mean you can tip but its kfc so that wont happen
that isn't a "tipped" job though
minimum with a tipped job here is $5.55
WHAT
tips like arent really a thing in australia
as far as im aware at least
How do I earn money at age 14
the whole idea of a tipped wage is weird, you legally can not make less than 13.50/hr when including tips though
I'm 14 in October
fast food
i got a job at maccas when i was 14 (dont reccomend maccas though, they didnt give me my breaks and it was really stressful, and you'd get burnt alot bc they didn't have proper safety measures in place)
I guess I need to check in Bahrain
Lol
What state is that, you dumb
It literally just a design update lmao

- even more spyware
It's a redo of the ui and some tweaks to what it runs of going from dx11 to dx12
There is no Spyware
Come on, camera + mic requirements for all laptops? Amazon embedded into the os? Removing, local, non ms tied windows accounts? Embedding teams into w11?

Yeah
U don't need camera
on laptops u will
No
windows hello is a good security feature.
and online accounts are a thing because disk encryption is a good thing and users are idiots.
there is nothing wrong with having an online account
Yeah but forcing these stuff is shetty imo
Well don't upgrade then
- even more bloatware + data collection
there is no bloatware.
its features
that do fuck all if not in use
and data collection is good, its called telemetrics and helps the os development

no seriously, its a good thing
idk, i feel like w11 is overhyped, and ms is just taking the wrong approach here ngl
Cool I really like win11 and think it's a great upgrade
its not been hyped at all, and is a necessary update to allow modern security features.
The security features were always here, they're now forcing it on users
why would you care if a developer has access to annonomised telemetrics to help develop features that are in use or identify bugs.
Yea but win11 is bringing it up
" anonymised "
yes and provbable as such
and have been many many times
also why would you care if people knew how many times your app crashed?
thats a very big understatement
windows 10 alone, (at least officially), collects:
edit: nvm, comment gets auto-removed due to having too many lines

Cortana
I disabled that within 5 seconds after installing win

https://privacy.microsoft.com/en-us/data-collection-windows its like there is a policy or something
and its this.
not true and will hit the spam filter
if you are going to try to post it, just post the source.
put it in paste bin
Pastebin
Pastebin.com is the number one paste tool since 2002. Pastebin is a website where you can store text online for a set period of time.
- source their own privacy policy
and thats only what they say they collect
their privacy policies
nope I linked that
And it's not like android phones collect more data then windows
have you read that?
ofc not, i didnt just quote it 5 secs ago
i find it hilarious how even microsoft fanboys, dont see windows 11 as private: https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/o84nrk/one_thing_microsoft_didnt_discuss_windows_11/

did you read the source?
i was talking about the comments
or are you paroting reddit users opinions about a source they didnt read either.
Mate if u don't like windows getting so much data just use macos
not shilling just correcting misinformation
nope and nor is it.
i mean the only significant changes that can be said that weren't just "design updates" would be from Windows 2000 -> XP, XP->Vista, and 8->10
introduction of UAC perms, complete redesign of settings panels and notifications, and driver model changes
bitlocker on home.
I don't understand the insistence on every update being some ground breaking reimagining of a system that works and works well
And win10 to win11 is going from dx11 to dx12 which shouldn't be a huge deal unless u use super super old cards
when's the last time Linux fundamentally changed? why don't people complain when Ubuntu changes from Unity to Gnome by saying "it was only an aesthetics change!"
ongoing iteration is a good thing, especially when the update is free
Yea
I've read about that
I know a lot of people still despise it
but that was yeeeeeeeeeeeeeears ago, which was my point
the same people that decry windows for not making major fundamental changes sit by and are happy with a mostly stagnant Linux
that's so damn stationary that programs from the 80s will still run
I find it funny how linux got bought into this when it wasnât even mentioned but
I wouldnât call linux stagnant, especially not when taking windowsâ âamazingâ innovation and development into consideration
, but even so, desktop linux osâs are free, favoured by a minority, and often partially reliant on the community. In comparison microsoft asks for 100+ quid, or around 200 if u want to some more bloat in pro, and is a massive company.
you're just advertising linux to me
i already know what it is and use it frequently
My main point was that windows 11 is just overhyped, it shouldâve just been windows 10 20H3 or something imo
I'm specifically calling out people that are complaining that W11 isn't some groundbreaking change when a) that's only happened a handful of times in previous Windows updates, nobody complained then, and b) those same people are typically linux fans and don't complain when linux updates are incredibly minor
It's W11 and not that specifically for marketing reasons
It's way easier to just say "You need X requirements to run Windows 11" than to say "You need X requirements to run this specific update of Windows 10 and later" when the majority of people will have never heard of the 20HX style of naming
ig
And plus a new name coincides with the new look+feel of it
Yeah but theyâll have much less funding than microsoft has
Microsoft submits a ton of patches to the Linux kernel anyways
fun fact
Microsoft and friends also have a bunch of people on for example the C and C++ committee teams and their compiler dev teams as well
very fun, very cool
H3
Baboabooey

Yeah, considering that windows 11 will have ads apparently, I'm definitely going to stick to windows 10 for as long as possible.
...but who's to say microsoft won't add ads to windows 10?
this is extremely disappointing
tf is this
must be the dev preview
beta preview doesnt have that
or at least on my laptop
Beta preview definitely broke, too. I was struggling trying to figure it out for a while last night.
đ¤ˇââď¸
my only issue with win11 rn is translucent tb doing some funky issues
I'm pissed off at the fact that auto-hide doesn't work on the second monitor.
This was apparently fixed in the Dev update yesterday, though.
Probably going to swap over to that from Beta.
i havent tried multi monitor yet lol was going to tonight
I was lucky, my prebuilt PC from 2018 is perfectly compatible with Windows 11
i mean its not hard to run'
dx12 gpu is prob the only part that will not let people upgrade to it
The more restrictive part is Ryzen 2000 or Intel 8000 and later
where do u see that all i see is cpu needs to be 1ghz or faster
It's been in a lot of MS communication and there's official pages on MSDN about it too
you can click on the link for compatible processors
scroll down and here's amd https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/design/minimum/supported/windows-11-supported-amd-processors
here's intel https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/design/minimum/supported/windows-11-supported-intel-processors
Oh sad. My old crappy g4560 can't run it.
H
ok cool so my 2200G is fine
will windows 10 still get updates for the next few years after win11 launches?
2025..
if you want to
yes
good job
lol
I don't even have the processor
I was just using it to show that saying 2000 series isn't really enough
@terse river the real question is the 1600AF. Is that Zen or Zen+?
I dont think that is how it works though, I think it actually is zen+, isn't it?
for example it runs on X570 boards when a 1600 does not
@terse river In December 2019 AMD silently launched a new variant, dubbed Ryzen 5 1600 "AF" (based on the changed SKU). It's based on the newer and improved Zen+ architecture and user testings suggest a slightly higher boost clock (3600Mhz compared to 3300MHz for original "AE") under multi-core load compared to the fresh-man 1600.
according to wikichip https://en.wikichip.org/wiki/amd/ryzen_5/1600
Ryzen 5 1600 is a 64-bit hexa-core mid-range performance x86 desktop microprocessor introduced by AMD in early 2017. This processor is based on AMD's Zen microarchitecture and is fabricated on a 14 nm process. The 1600 operates at a base frequency of 3.2 GHz with a TDP of 65 W and a Boost frequency of up to 3.6 GHz. This model is a less overcloc...
i dunno it's weird
@knotty solstice it's not on the compatibility list so it's not compatible
I wonder if it would pass the check though, is MS actually checking model numbers or just supported features? @terse river
@terse river so is a 4700s on their list? Pretty sure it's not
Isn't
yeah it's not
I think it's just CPUs that have TPM 2.0 integrated
idk
@leaden oxide it's not that
Because the 1600 has TPM 2.0 support
Either the 4700S just counts as a 4700 or people are out of luck @knotty solstice
@terse river The Ryzen 5 1600 AF is compatible with Windows 11, I am currently running Windows 11 on my 1600 AF Based machine and it has stated it will continue to receive. The freshly updated PC Health Check app also states my CPU is compatible,
AMD.com
Dear AMD Community, I would like to buy new Ryzen 5 1600 AF but I want to install Windows 11 when it will be on the market. I can see this list on microsoft website but I can't see Ryzen 5 1600 AF: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/design/minimum/supported/windows-11-supported-amd-p...
weird
cause it literally is a Zen+ part
Zen+, since it's practically the same thing as a 2600.
I realised what makes me so uncomfortable about this topic channel
it has capital letters and spaces
scary stuff
Maybe. Who am I to judge?
You can blame @analog ridge. I hate it.
Better.
windows 11
nice
is it good?
Windows 11?
No, pistachios
oh yea pistachios are good
I swapped back to the Dev channel because it fixed the taskbars on multiple monitors.
Here's hoping nothing else breaks.
what's the issue you had with multimonitor taskbar?
haven't noticed anything wrong so far
I prefer my taskbars to be hidden.
Couldn't get the one on the secondary monitor to pop up.
I'm still pissed that I can't move them from the bottom.
Hidden at the top has always been my go-to.
I have my main one at the left.
...come to think of it, that might be an issue if I put another monitor over there...
can't wait for Michaelsoft Binbows 11 (final version)
i have a 1600 as fuck too and i aint supportedđ
still waiting for release to public
date's already out, just wait
oh true i didnt know that
yes
Not right now afaik, it's still being developed.
ok
I haven't tried it out myself though
but will it be better for gaming?
Full release is next month
It will be the same
oh already?
ight
If I get someone coming from KSA to PAK then I get windows 11 supported laptop
My uncle said itâs like a Dell latitude 7490
open CPUz and see what it says? you sure you have the AF 12nm Pinnacle Ridge one?
i have this one
oh windows 11 thread thats good
WELP
that is what an AF looks like
WELP
win11 widgets allegedly having high ram use problems
Vista comeback
why can't i see the storage space on my drives
right click > view > tiles
Lol
Will everyone need a new product key for Windows 11 if they don't do the free upgrade?
they are
Quick question, are there any changes windows 11 brings other than aesthetics changes?
yes there are some
What are they?
a big one is the scheduler, apparently it was completely redone for BIG.little
A lot more security applied by default and intergal to the os
alright
with the unofficial ISO from June, correct?
there are official ISO's now @sand bramble
i know, i was suggesting it
Should i go for Insider Beta channel or Dev one?
Technically all Insider Previews are free evaluations
its less than a month, wait for release.
but i wanna be free labour for microsoft and you can't stop me
but the bugfixes have all been signed off, and retail is packed, its just wasting your time and everybodyelses.
how is it wasting everyone else's time
when you ask for support đ

i installed the beta for no reason, been fine, can't wait til it breaks
but to be fair all i do on my pc is spew garbage on bapo and play games
Indeed, the Preview enrollment requires you start from a licensed state when done from client Windows
But my legal Education copy, when promoted to Insiders, is treated as an evaluation regardless
Taskbar visuals
that's all
I have no wireless on the desktop either
[and no battery]
so we share all of two icons
I assume we're on the same build
im on beta
mine looks like gleeb's on beta
it looks diff for me then
guess im going nuts
besides the other things people said there is also going to be a partnership with the amazon app store later on after the release date
but im sure u heard of that
Oh right that
But no significant performance changes, right?
dx11 to dx12
and right now
im thinking win11 is a bit under optimized
my laptop battery is better in games then on idle
Hah
that and my cinebench score droped 3k points
but hopefully thats just me and the actuall release or ur experince is better

Beta releases are always unoptimized afaik
Instrumentation is not cheap
?
đ
Is the notification center broken for you, too?
Insider builds are chock-full of additional instrumentation
Mainly because, well, we're all voluntary test subjects
So there's plenty of diagnostics being tracked and sent
Nope.
Clicking on the date/time/notification icon doesn't pull anything up.
It works well for me.
Hm.
Odd.
Nah, I've been running Win 11 since day 2.
I would not know in that case
Most likely broken from the start through upgrades
Here's an interesting quirk
it took the latest preview to make Start launch on both my monitors
previously, it only worked on the primary monitor
Huh.
and note that I had to reinstall to get that going
Upgrades probably don't eliminate old bugs
The latest preview was the first one to fix the auto-hide taskbar on both screens.
I'm still irked by things I reported ages ago
They're still not being acted upon
It's maddening
Infuriating.
There's also winget
Which is super cool.
it's great, and I assume will at some point become shipped with Windows
by default
but:
it doesn't work for me!
in fact, it doesn't work for a whole class of users
Yikes.

I only hope they're not going to bury the ticket
I would actually volunteer to fix it myself, but there's a problem
I have no idea how std::filesystem::rename is implemented under Windows
it likely maps to some Windows call, but I don't know which one
and without that, I can't understand why it behaves the way it does
the joys of bugfixing on closed stuff, eh
Woo?
It won't be nice if they bury this
I'll keep pinging them weekly
This is a big omission
Yeah, that's huge and definitely needs to be fixed.
But
There is a fortunate aspect to all of this
It made me do some good testing of winget's most useful feature, by far
Package autodetection!
You can install something without using winget and it'll still detect the install
[and consequently be able to manage it]
Fancy.
So it's a nice in-place upgrade to existing systems too
I have no idea how they've actually done that, though
Ah hopefully when I go to the public release build it will fix all my issues with it so far

But that's a few weeks out
Has win 11 optimized the CPU time wasted on unused features
I mean, what does âunusedâ means
If they arenât using resources then they donât use any resources

So like I guess the answer is no they havenât optimised it because thereâs nothing to optimise
Not to mention the part where you can just excise the things you genuinely don't use.
It hasn't been hard in the last five years.
I double dog dare you to go into the service components widow
And tell me there's not wasted latency
Wasted latency?
I make my PC feel new again with that
Yeah disablinb services like the wireless display
It was never on but it still runs
Yes there's a bit of a problem with this
Running need not mean doing anything
consequently using anything
It made a world of a difference
I'd like to see how much latency was genuinely saved with some actionable data
Because the amounts saved generally don't fall into the visible range
At least from what individual latency measurements in the whole input chain have shown
Idk how to quantify it but it felt like I just saw 144hz for the first time again
Nah
Right, but that's the eye test, and an eye test isn't convincing
I play comp fps tho so I am more sensitive to things like this
You know what else makes people feel like a screen is smoother? Simply telling them that it is
Iâm not joking
How do I best put this into perspective
You can tell people âthis screen is smoother than that screenâ and theyâll look at both and agree with you
Even if theyâre the same screen
If youâre expecting to see a difference then yeah I can understand why you would
But without actual objective measurements I do not believe you
I I will see if I have a video recording of it I remember getting so excited that I filmed my monitor with my phone
as in, the whole input chain
But I can guarantee you that it wasnt placebo
has been observed to suffer from a general latency figure of ~100ms
this is down to actual hardware- physics
Itâll need to be in slow motion
And with something that indicates when an input has occured
Something visual
It was 60fps, it showed up really clearly in the footage
Ideally, you would also know the game is not wasting latency
This need not be the case
But here's the point I'm trying to make
Your whole chain
has a compound figure, on average, well below what can be considered a sensible reaction time
Your OS is the last of your worries
Disabling core system services for want of "latency" is, thus far- and it's really been a while
largely unsubstantiated
nobody's even managed to procure accurate measurements
You're saying that performance gain would be neutralized by some other aspect of the chain, idk what that is called, schedule?
I'm saying you're gimped by your hands, then your hardware, then maybe your settings, then maybe the game
Hopefully you understand when I mean but I write some ods shit like that
If a wireless display driver is actually causing latency problems itâs due to a major bug in the driver
Like a MAJOR bug
Not just âresources being wasted on unused servicesâ
A service sitting around, waiting, yielding its timeslice constantly for having nothing to do- that's not the source of your issues
I'm not saying freak accidents have never happened
Sometimes you have had genuine issues that had a measurable impact on latency
Im synesthetic I wouldn't be able to miss something like that on my hand
But what I'm also saying is that you have so many things in the chain it's quite difficult to try tackling every single one
or even measuring the effect of every single one
But I didn't just disable component services I also deleted firewall rules and set it to reqyire a rule in and out
There's a lot of things that I destroyed in Windows
I changed the CPU core affinity the priority I changed the task scheduler I deleted a shit ton of registry files I disabled a lot of drivers
It was honestly huge idk what to say
Have fun when something just doesnât work and you have no idea why
And the only solution is a complete reinstall
If out-and-out performance is what you'd like, go on ahead, I guess
But do be careful
Some things are not quite meant to be meddled with
I had a lot of fun doing that troubleshooting
Also brave sloth you're being kind of a prick
Admittedly, I'm humoring the idea more than I should
If we're going based on what we've got some kind of data for, it's all pretty unsubstantiated
Windows was literally amputated beyond recognition
If you have fun tweaking windows I highly recommend it
The last time I heard someone claim frenetic Windows tweaking was the solution, it was some mad Bulgarian that tried to pawn off his dirty, God-knows-how modified Windows ISO on people
I have fun tweaking the system in generally non-breaking ways
And you know what that's actually how my laptop has come to its end
I broke my installed OEM windows
Sure
Windows couldn't repair
I don't wanna make an image
That's strictly a you problem
No comment
2 years to be exact
That's not a very long way but it felt like a long life considering when I put it thru
Saying I'm being a prick and then admitting that you already did the thing that I was talking about is some top tier banter
I think that's just a hilarious waste of hardware
Put it to some decent use and quit butchering your OS for no reason. If butchering's your kind of deal, there are experiences designed from the ground up for that
CS:GO has native Linux binaries, doesn't ti?
It wasn't a waste I got more than my $600 worth and by that point I was already getting components together for my new px
If you genuinely want a ride down latency lane, try your hand at a Linux distribution next
You'll find that
Yeee
A) they're more tolerant of rampant, unnecessary modification
and B) you can do something with rampant, unnecessary modification
it might be a complete counterproductive effect, that's also been observed, but it'll sure do something
Yeah too bad valorant anti cheat doesn't run on Linux
even if that something is the exact opposite of what you'd like
That's the only bummer I'm going to dual boot it anyways
Yeah I have an options addiction
I can tell
Which is fine
As long as you don't outright recommend the same to people that don't know better
Anything I gives me more power than I should have it's just euphoric
Hacking is a fun activity, but it's best experienced in an environment that's conducive to it
whenever I tell people I'm doing they don't want anything to do with it
I don't blame them
Yeah. Really fucking annoying to use that computer towards the end
Functionality is the number one priority of most people, not without reason
My God it was fast I literally I have never seen the cursor move so continuously on desktop
That's the thing basically made the movement extremely continuous
...
I'm not sure I follow the logic, but then again, I'm not particularly keen on it either way
@dawn vale The calendar and notifications just started working again.
I'm not sure what I did.
I can rephrase with that
You don't need to, I get the gist of it
But yes
Happy hacking, and try your hand at a *nix distro with, perhaps, Liquorix or XanMod next
In fact, they just popped up out of the blue. Taskbar was hidden. I'm working on something in a Chrome window.
[or whatever manner of two-bit hack you find/devise]
What are you doing?
Erratic behavior has been pretty common in the Insider Previews thus far
One of the builds produced Explorer/shell restarts every 15 minutes
Taking a practice exam for the A+.
I have my Core 2 exam tomorrow.
I would not be worried about something like the A+ if I were in your position
Core 2? Wow that's old
I think you'll ace it
Is that like a course on how CPU architecture interacts with ein
If you can still buy that stuff I have a question for y'all
Nah. Pretty basic certification for working in IT.
This it's impossible to explain I don't have the technical knowledge required LOL
I want to make it good for music production but no one fucking in the ass but that actually entails besides an SSD and a decent CPU
There's an idea that you have to minimize system interrupts because those directly taxing your buffer size operate under, the goal is to be as close to real time rendering as possible
Well if anyone's up to answer this one or try to answer it would be greatly appreciated
I can add more information about how a daw operates too
Surely the answer is just throw more CPU at it
Unfortunately not
I wish that was the answer but you have to like optimize every single USB device that's plugged in to computer and you choice of hardware has to play nice because if there's some kind of conflict thats like 5% of the buffer gone
CPUs are so much faster than they were 4 years ago
Were people not able to do real time music production 4 years ago
It seems like it would be pretty binary on whether the processor can keep up or not
CPU isn't the bottleneck now
Not like video editing where it can be slow to varying degrees
And to say nothing to do with synths outran the bottlenecks
The amount you can do*
I'll get it one day
So what's the bottleneck
I'm not sure I follow
Is it RAM speed?
Is it storage speed?
Ran could be, I got some 14 14 14 34 memory so I think I would be covered there
Though I don't really know how that Larry will behave in my system
You have to do memory training for the timings?
And the storage is pissing me off because when people say fast storage the only thing I've ever talking about is like read and write speeds
Is it IO/s that well give a storage drive the latency for information access
It's giving me a headache
You can find latency information online and from anyone yet actually knows what they are talking about
Yes finding that is not as easy as you would imagine
There's a lot of ppl like me that sound like they know what they're talking about to a noob but in reality they don't
Is kind of hard to filter out noise in the PC enthusiast space because 85% of all information is crap
I simply don't trust anyone until they provide hard numbers
Yes and especially to interpret them
It's just choose whatever numbers fit their narrative and call it a day, leave out the rest
Yeah you know what I wonder why it's so bad for this type of thing because this does not really happen in music production If communities the way I see it here, I wonder if it has to do with a younger overall audience combined with the cost of buying into this hobby
It kind of makes you more Invested in being right about you understanding of things
It's just the size of the respective communities
Music production and PC building don't register on the same fucking order of magnitude in terms of baseline knowledge and relative popularity
Consequently, there's less involvement required here

Microsoft announces optimizations and performance improvements for Windows 11 Just four weeks prior to the official release of the new operating system, Microsoft sheds more light on performance improvements coming with the new system. The Microsoft Windows 11 will make your PC faster thanks to various optimizations under the hood. The new UI an...
they claim 30% CPU and memory improvements...
https://youtu.be/oIYHRRTCVy4 they link this video here
The Windows 11 team gives an exclusive look at the Windows 11 performance optimizations, improvements to the Windows servicing model and orchestration engine, as well as policy management and the rationale behind Windows 11 system requirements. Steve Dispensa, VP of Enterprise Management at Microsoft, joins host Jeremy Chapman to take you under ...
so it basically depends on if you trust someone from the "Windows Management Team" in an obviously orchestrated interview
I mean it's a first party source
it's better than an anonymous source @jagged sentinel
that is true
or, better still
actual third-party sources, like Anand, discussing known improvements to components
In previous versions of Windows, the scheduler had to rely on analysing the programs on its own, inferring performance requirements of a thread but with no real underlying understanding of what was happening. Windows 11 leverages new technology to understand different performance modes, instruction sets, and it also gets hints about which threads rate higher and which ones are worth demoting if a higher priority thread needs the performance.
average user needs a 30% better cpu just to be able to update without a work around
pretty sure the average user will be able to muster an upgrade to a 2017-era machine by 2025
pretty standard service lifetime, really, and the workaround is always there
Do we know if the direct storage requirements need the OS to be installed on the NVMe or if the game just needs to be installed on the NVMe
@inland seal are you on the latest W11 update?
got a funny problem pop up with it, its kinda fun but annoying
I am at home, yeah.
Not in the office.
i cant explain but let me demonstrate
....of course it stops happening when im about to show it
Yeah, I like the settings a lot more.
same
the issue i had was when i drag a window it moves as if i shot a 10000000fps slow-mo video
it just moves smoothly and extremely slowly
it fixed itself it seems like
that used to be an issue with Office if you had high usb or mouse polling rates
To bad win11 is limited gpu tho
7 1700 baby
Well, you will get updates of some kind
They're just no longer going to be for the relevant Insider flight
You're already gone from flighting if that's what it shows
How do I remove this orange notification
I think I just have so many discord notifications that it's always orange
I unpinned and repinned to taskbar and it's gone now
So clear those notifications
Right click > Mark as read for each server
Then mute them so you stop getting unnecessary notifications
or you could fix it properly and turn these off in notification settings https://i.imgur.com/cKS6kMR.png
Except I want to see notifications for when I get pinged or when a server I want notifications from posts
i just have push notifcations on then i get it on my phone and not my pc
right but that's what i would want lol
this implies that you don't have a monitor whose sole purpose is having discord open @jagged sentinel
i often have several other applications open on top of it lol
2 usually 3
ah I see
so I get the actual windows 11 updates
kind of like windows 10 without insider
I'm guessing that is
you may get updates
microsoft is saying they may not push updates for unsupported systems
which basically means you'll probably get them delayed or with bugs
Windows 11?
the one after windows 10
Before Windows 15
but not after windows 9

Can I delete Windows.old folder?
it automatically deletes after a few weeks iirc, it's there in case something messes up from upgrading you can revert back @cold pawn
aw i missed out on somone getting banned
It's a server of around 80,000+ members, bans aren't that special.
when u stick to like 1-2 channels its fun to see them
why am i getting windows 11 drivers
it's for both 11 and 10 buddy
but why am i getting drivers for 11 before it even released
beta/development versions are out
it really shouldn't matter to you since that driver will work with 10
Anyways Windows 11 is in Preview so Intel needs to have driver support for 11 for those testing it
The same driver works for both that is why they are listed together
wow i can message here
can't wait for windows 11 tho
i get XR upgrade bro gets 13 pro max
If i went to windows 11. Will games still run?
All your programs should be compatible.
Yeah windows 11 is more or less just a windows 10 reskin with a few added features, right?
actually that kinda sounds like most windows updates
i mean there's some deeper changes that are more than a reskin but it's still all compatible
So I am officially maining dev branch for the next ~10 days. Wish me luck!
Why@knotty solstice
Yes I guess lol
It's a translation for Android apps
Not necessarily Android built in
Because it fixes the hidden taskbar issue.
That was my reasoning, at least.
there is a collab with the amazon app store which includes android apps but when it win11 is first released it wont be there.
I'm away so I only have the surface haha
Worth though
Pretty
@knotty solstice you use W11 on your computer
does it work with all of your external devices
like the DAQs
What's DAQ
Yea literally 0 issues with compatibility haha
good to hear
I am going to wait until I upgrade to 11 to verify all my engineering devices work
Data Acquisition @coral harbor
I would be surprised if anything is broken tbh. It isn't like there are major changes from 10 in that regard
W11 is still going to have DX11 lol
it's not going to force games to start using DX12, that would break too much stuff
Although DX backwards compatibility is mostly alright
That is not at all how that works
if a game was made in DX11, W11 requiring a DX12 card is not going to change anything
The DX12 requirement is there so that developers and Microsoft all know that every single Windows 11 machine will support the same minimum feature set
And there can be multiple reasons for a game performing worse in DX12... mostly related to just programming... DX12 is much harder to program than DX11 so many devs can just do worse at it. It's also designer with newer GPUs in mind so older ones may not have the architectural features DX12 is optimized for
Same with most of the other requirements for 12
Wtf
I love Paint3D
Isn't it on the Microsoft store?
Pretty sure I have it on my W11 install

it will be
and it'll be in 11 if you upgraded from 10
fresh installs won't include it
are there bugs in win 11
yes.
to be entirely fair
I haven't had Explorer crash on me in 5 builds now
but on the other hand
Winget install sometimes throws off invalid hash errors to me
Or something like that
Dunno why it happens or what causes it
Like winget install Spotify
Says hash doesn't match and aborts
its like 15 days till release, im waiting for that
Did you see Amazon app store got listed?
Can't install it though
on 11? nice im waiting for release now
Still holding off lol
I remember MSFT said that retail sale will come out later, current release will only be for updaters... That was months ago dunno if it changed in MSFTs infinite wisdom
yea but if they hold tradition you will be able to iso download
Close enough
o my
I ma like 99% sure it was fine on my desktop
@inland seal do you run Dev or Beta?
yea I am dev ina this also
I bet it is a bug in Dev
cause my desktop was Beta and I never noticed it
releasing next month, too
i'm sure this will end well
Left align works fine
wait 15 until windows 11???
guys i need help if that is the case
i have two options
- buy concert tickets to see with friends
- buy new cpu for windows
ok iâve decided 1 already
windows11 can wait
true LMAO as i was typing it i was like âwhy am i even questioning thisâ
Why is changing default apps so much irritating in W11
Because they want you to use edge.
I can't think of any reason to force you to update each possible extension individually without giving you a "change all" button.
edge isn't even that bad of a browser imo, it's just the fact that microsoft begs you to use it is so annoying
edgium is great, M$ forcing it isn't
Precisely
google also begs you to use their browser
they even have an entire operating system where chrome is the only choice of browser that you get
but nobody cares
Begs as in asks you to set chrome to default? Pretty sure every browser does that. Edge though, if you type in Chrome to the windows search bar, even if you have Chrome installed, edge will pop up and say "windows 10 recommended browser" or something like that. I can't speak for chromeos since a) in prefer not to use it and b) I haven't tried to install another browser on it.
they also pester you to download chrome when you use google search
lot of google sites say chrome is the best way to view
Ah
Alright yeah that's equally obnoxious
But like you said, nobody cares because it's google
I am going to try it in a VM
I'm probably going to put it on live hardware soon after launch, I've been running it in a virtual machine since the first developer preview and haven't encountered any problems thus far.
windows 11 game ready drivers have dropped
Rip kepler
One had dropped a while ago
Microsoft event now kek
oh?
I dont think I will.
Sorry, staying on Windows 10
True. and most use it because it has easiest integration with youtube and shit, something many, many people use.
I'm actually switching to vivaldi.
try not to cut yourself on that edge.
lolol
i think iâve already asked this but i forgot
will windows 11 perform ok with a ryzen5 2600, 16gb of 3200mhz ram and a 1050ti?
take a wild fucking guess
why wouldn't it
hopefully perf issues (like the ones i had with my MAIN pc, about x10 less FPS? on roblox (not exact, but it was unplayable on lowest, when it did 60 on lowest no problem before) for example, get solved...
bc like a 1050ti isnât like goals
idk iâm like viewing it as a windows vista type thing
vista just loved RAM and was fine if your PC was fine
disagree
I mean, it ran fine if you had like 2 (or was it 4?) gb, didn't it?
nah it was never fine
we need some win11 bingo card for launch
I never had issues with Vista.
I used it for... 3-4 years? Got a laptop with it my junior year of HS that I used for a while.
I supported 2k computers on it, I detested it.
win11 is not shit
